lol that house is hilariously fugly. The funny thing is that with all the awful house designs in Kuwait, it actually doesn’t stand out as much as it should.

This is a very famous house that borders the Fintas and Mahboola area. The owner and his wife are known art-lovers and have used gems and various other stones to embellish this. And don’t just judge the outside, you’ll be startled once you get INSIDE the house.

We need more of these cultural events. There are VERY few Kuwaitis – if any – who would turn their own private living rooms into a public Art gallery or workshop, and do it for free. And to whoever said the house looks ugly, lets see if they can do the same and donate their OWN fucking house for a PUBLIC EXHIBITION of ANY KIND!

WTF, what’s suddenly so cool and noble about turning a normal house (most likely built on govt. gifted land and in part by a govt. loan LMAO) into an awfully tacky museum? It’s not like these people are donating their house for charity or the homeless or some other great cause.

This type of public eyesore is called ATTENTION WHORING and in this case it’s done on a MASSIVE scale. There are millions of people doing shit like this in kuwait and all over the world, it’s not so OMG CRAZY!!1 or special at all. Some of them even do it properly and it comes out actually nice and artistic not trashy and rubbish like this place. Look at it FFS, it looks like it belongs in entertainment city LMAO!

Holla

So are you willing to donate your house-chalet-diwaniya?

BTW that house is privately owned by a a Kuwaiti person and the GOVT did not donate the land or give him loans..Go look at REAL Govt owned houses or houses built by Govt loans, They don’t come in the size and location of Aladins house. you need to get your facts checked before throwing out garbage in Mark’s post about an ART event which will be attended by many talented young people. THIS is not a VILLA MODA seasonal show for it to be in a Miseela Mansion or Sheraton Ballroom or Bait Lothan , and the people who will attend cannot afford to have their work shown in a (( Ultra modern and Cool looking ))Houses in Dahiya Abdulla Al Salem – Miseela-Bedea or Bnaider Chalets, or they would surely have done that to appear more ((COOL)) and ((Kashkha)) to some small minded people here.

Again if you have a nicer looking house or you know someone who has a house or chalet and is willing to open it for the public…you can make a lot of people happy by contacting the organizers.

” millions of people doing this shit in Kuwait ”

REALLY?

can you provide me with a list of 3-5 Kuwaiti houses which are open to the public for Art shows and workshops?

gunsmoke

Correct me if I’m wrong…Mark`s post is about an exhibition not a critique for local houses and architecture in Kuwait…and somehow the majority of the comments ignored that fact…Everyone knows about this house for years and I don’t think Mark’s goal was to ridicule the owners or question their intentions for hosting an Arts & Crafts workshop at their own living room.

Ok so the house design is unusual and some will hate it, but why attack the event itself and the organizers, participants and call them attention seeking whores?

one more thing, when you say this house looks ugly , I don’t think your house or the rest of the houses/mansions/chalets in Kuwait were designed by Zaha Hadid. So try some humility and respect towards others choices and taste , if you want your opinions to be taken seriously.

I’m not going to start an argument here and waste everyone’s time. But sometimes we need to stop our cynicism for a moment and look at the big picture and not just the “fugly” looking house.

I’ve seen uglier. This house ain’t ugly in my own opinion, it’s quite unique from an architectural point of view.

Bo jaij i said millions of people in kuwait AND the rest of the world, Kuwait ain’t big enough.

For an example of a really good place in Kuwait, you can check out the Tarek Rajab museum or Dixon house or even the Qurain martyr house. They are infinitely more interesting and done better than this fake, plastic vegas landmark. I know it might seem hard to believe for you LOL but not everyone shares your obsession with this hilariously rubbish-looking place.

Actually the house doesn’t look so bad; 01 thing is for sure and that is its unique and original when compared to the rest of them standard square / rectangled concrete blocks one see’s all over the place. Nice to see that some people have remembered where they came from and imitated true to heart arab and islamic styles.. way to go Mr. Adel Al Saadoon

Security Adviser there is nothing about that house that is traditional Kuwaiti. I remember when I was a kid, and Holla helped remind me, but there is a ride in Entertainment City where you sit on a cart and go through some ancient world, this looks like it came from there.

Mark, could you please provide info abt if its open exhibition or visitor has to buy tickets ? if tickets ? then how much
regards

sounds interesting..

i remember that house looked different like 8 years ago it really looked like Aladdin kinda house, then they renovated it.

difference is the spice of life ;P

be happy ppl.. why is everyone so tensed up ;P

Holla

Did you read the post?

It is a WORKSHOP where people gather to learn about crafts and actually build things.

We know about the Museums you mentioned and they have nothing to do whatsoever with the event we are talking about. An Arts and crafts exhibition cannot be held in a Martyrs Memorial building or Dixon’s house which is a historic building, Tareq Rajeb`s is a privately owned Museum and it showcase a private collection. Please try to see the difference between a ((Museum)) and a ((Workshop)).

I asked for 3-5 Kuwaiti houses which are available for workshops and not a list of Govt or privately owned Museums.

Again I repeat if you are willing to donate your much nicer looking house for the event , please do so and save those poor souls from the “ugliness” of the house.

The house you are making fun of is an actual home for a family of eight, yes its a real house and people live there ,so try to put yourself in their place for a second and see how you would feel if someone calls your home where your parents, brothers and sisters live, a Plastic Vegas landmark.

Hii all,

• Bo Jaij… Thank you for your comment and I totally agree with you!

• Funny thing is most of the people who follow this really cool blog call them self open-minded,, which I’ve noticed that in Kuwait it means “free”, but having an open mind really means accepting others with their differences and appreciating this kind of diversity without judging others.

• Even if u don’t agree with my previous point, that’s fine but why don’t you judge/criticize the house privately or with your close friends! why make fun of it in a blog that is read by A LOT of people “and that goes to you too mark regarding the carpet note” .. I’m thinking how would their kids feel if they read these posts “regardless if they have kids or not! This is a general comment that applies to all” ..

Thanks and I really hope this makes a difference and remember just because you don’t mention your real names when you post your comments doesn’t mean you don’t have to show your real ”hopefully good” manners.

@ Gun Smoke

Where in what I wrote did you read “Traditional Kuwaiti?? I said true to heart Arab and Islamic styles. And the last time I checked Arches and domes and minarets are typically a part of Arab and Islamic architectural styles. Do you need a reference to some the worlds greatest known Arab and Islamic landmarks to comapre to???

And again traditional Kuwaiti house styles from days of old were large square clay ,stone, straw and mud structures with a large open courtyard in the centre with the different rooms facing the courtyard. Nothing like the house shown above.

What you and holla may have seen as kids in entertainment city is most likely a artists renedering based on what Ancient Persian Palaces may have looked like. And considering that the Persians at one time were a great nation it is not hard to believe that their palaces would be grand and and beautiful. And the last time I checked the story of Alladin was based in Ancient Persia.

@ Hugh

Have actually seen or been to an Arabic Playboy Mission??
