Fire on Canada Dry Street

A reader sent me the footage above which he captured on his way to work. A shop on Canada Dry street that stocked tires went up in flames. Hopefully no one was injured. [YouTube]

Thanks Atif!

Update: Here is some more info and pictures [Link]

Update2: In addition to the pictures, Q8Geeks.org just uploaded a better video of the fire which you can check out below.

I just came from there. Went to get new tires, ended up getting stuck in traffic for 2 hours. Its really a huge fire and its been raging since 2PM.

Wow, it was still there at 9:30PM. I dropped off a friend picking up his car from Al Babtain and tried to get onto Canada Dry Street, but the exit was blocked by a large fire truck. I guess tires burn pretty well.

Thanks Mark for the video, the fire started from 3:10 due what the fire department engineer told me that it looks to be from an electric heat from the small shop next to them, but what i wana say is that the workers tried to stop it with fire extinguisher but tires are very flammable. A call to 112 at 3:13 but they responded and came at 3:40 which made the fire spread faster, the distince from the fire department and the shop is less than 4km. At last there were no injuries and it took them till 8:35 to put it out.

Guys.. just and “FYI” moment here…. um.. the tire re-sellers usually do this once every two-three years.. its an insurance set up… and I have to say, pulling this off everytime is unbelievable!!.. If you check it out there has been over 5 fires recorded in the past 10 years!…all burning tires.,. Falken mostly..!! heheh!

There are always fires at shops in Shuwaikh in the months from March to July. It is a convenient time of the year for budgeting purposes – and before the summer travel season when nothing gets done.

How many Shuwaikh fires can you count between now and July?

There is no reason for the KFD to do anything but just watch it burn. Why risk life when they know what’s going on?

They should fine the owners for the damage the smoke is doing to the environment. Yuk.
