Ok, Uroj if you read this don’t get upset; Take it as constructive criticism!! Your tone is monotonous to me and it doesn’t feel like you are gettin’ a kick outaf the show!! One thing I got on all of the DJs you’ve got down there is that you people ain’t “wild” enough, meaning you don’t come up with new topics that attract the right crowd from different ager groups that’s why most of us just turn to something else, if not the Ipod like me.

Also, people are into hip funky music and the selection you’ve got on is not that appealing to all, again the age / demographic thingie!

So yup! That’s all I gotta say and people, give the woman a chance to improve.. I mean she’s still fresh meat! and if not, quit woman!

I honestly believe that those who listen to the show once or twice a month might have some valuable input, but those who listen on a constant basis would have some better ideas.

I don’t listen to the show that much, but I believe Uruj should try to understand her usual listeners; who they are, what they like to hear, and what topics interest them.

If Uruj is looking to expand her listener base then she has to attract their attention, and present to them what they like to listen to and what not.

I honestly congratulate Uruj on her efforts to become a better DJ! Enshalla she will. 🙂

It’s not about the DJ. its about the music. I really could care less about the topics being brought up. I turn on the radio to hear some good music. A good DJ should be able to play the right song at the right time. We need good music in this country. How about mixing in a little House? Electro? Techno even? and please for heaven’s sake no country music, we are not red necks. And one more thing, dial down on the rap music, its turning into pure gibberish with the lyrics that don’t make sense.

well i cant say there are any good DJs on the radio in kuwait… none of them meet my satisfaction. But uruj is definitely better than linda and sometimes she manages to pull off some good songs, at least she doesnt sit there and give speeches on buckling up children and not speeding every single damn morning.. she plays more music than she talks. But one thing she shud work on is how she talks… u know that tone they do when someone is in suspense… she does it all the time and it gets annoying…….. the music could also use some improvement… switch the styles, and update the music… its the same songs over and over, but sometimes she pulls off some nice stuff like one night, she had an all rock night and she played some good metallica songs. In a nutshell, by getting rid of that annoying voice thing (I wish I could explain it better) I would listen more often.

I was listening to Uruj today, I thought it was well balanced, some light talk, some decent music. It was good. What I especially liked was it was a music show, not a improve yourself show, not a “listen to me I can talk forever” , etc.

I will refrain on commenting about how her voice tone irritates me; anyways, I HIGHLY suggests that she should stop trying very hard to be funny.

you seem to be trying a bit too hard on the job.

you’ve got a pretty clear voice, but the accent spoils it all, don’t worry about your accent, as long as it’s neutral, it’s cool. work on relaxing your voice and just keeping the flow going.

try cutting back on the “…annddd….”s and the “ummmmm….”s.

We tune in to radio for music, not to listen to them, when will they realize that.It’s not just this DJ Uruj, all of them are worthless.
I don’t listen to 99.7 anymore because I am sick and tired of all the egomaniac talking heads with their stupid trivia, jokes, etc – they wouldnt survive an hour in any Western radio station or even an UAE Virgin or pop station. And the worst thing is they do the commercials and promotions sometimes as well (“Don’t forget to shop at Landmark!”) – gimme a fucking break.

Voice of America’s pop station is your friend. We need a Western private radio station in Kuwait like Virgin in the UAE, with short announcements and good music, and LESS TALK.

Hey Uruj, it seems your voice tone irritates everyone, but you know what? Accept it, it has become your trademark and soon people will learn to accept it and even (hold on to your seat) miss it. You gave people something to talk about which is more than i can say about a lot of DJ’s.

Anyways, we’re a far cry from Howard Stern here in terms of quality, but it is nice that Uruj is willing to listen. It would be nice if she could bring in guests as some people suggested. It would also be VERY nice to talk about intelligent things, have debates, instead of the usual B.S. celebrity crap, or the ‘fun facts’ B.S. Don’t be afraid to stir interesting and thought provoking topics, even debates (imagine that!).

My advice is to ask yourself, “when you quit this job, what do you want people to remember?” Disty Uruj or Uruj who shook things up?

What i’d say is.. Play something current. Really. That’s what the radio is for, isnt’t it? Why play tracks that were released in 2005 or 2006? Allocate an hour or something to do that if it pleases ya’ll.

Also, picking up slightly what yousef said, play different genres for heaven’s sake. Damn! What’s with the Hip-Hop playing all through the day .. C’mon! Bring in some House, Trance ? Should attract a lot of listeners including me, if that matters at all. People are in search of somethin different to listen to. They’re all over with the whole Hip-Hop i-look-gangsta-if-i-listen-to-50-cent kinda thing.
Or even better, get a Dj or something who can play(and has a good knowledge of) EDM (Electronic Dance Music) .. Besides that it’s all good i guess. Just reduce on the Hip-Hop playing. Is that asking for too much? I bet the most of the arabs will enjoy playing EDM in their cars than Hip-Hop, the words of which they don’t seem to uderstand(most of them)

Uruj, first of all, you sound fake. Fake accent, fake reactions, fake emotion. You sound like a bored kid reading a play he doesn’t like.

Second, try to pronounce words without stretching them.

Third, please have better music. I don’t listen that often and you usually have one good song through out the whole show. That’s bad in case you don’t know, and I usually like a lot of genres and listen to anything..but you make me want to listen to..nothing.

Fourth, try to have a gimmick. Your current one is “that Saeed with the lame accent”, you should change it.

Fifth, you’re replacable so get your act together quick before people make you their mission.

Sixth, I think you should have a name change. Something that doesn’t sound like a cliche, I get it your name’s eccentric, but not really interesting. That gay caller called Moonlight has a better chance of impressing me.

haha didn’t know there were that many house and electro fans in Kuwait. There should be a station dedicated to that kind of music in Kuwait. I myself mix house and electro music with a friend, but don’t know if I should be going around promoting my personal blog on other peoples blogs. Uruj, every time I cruise in my car the first station I tune to is 99.7, and often during the “night ride”. What I hate the most is the clicks I hear before the music, it sounds very schlocky and tacky. Second is the ‘pitch’ of your voice (not your voice), which usually makes my logic 7 speakers screech. Honestly, other than that, I think you’re hilarious, and I ‘always’ enjoy your sarcasm.
**Remember, take all these comments as compliments, because as it shows above, MANY people are listening to you.. 😉

speaking of the devil! yesterday i was complaining to my friend how I couldn’t stand listening to 99.7, couldn’t even make it past one minute with the whole up and down tone of Uruj. It was the second time I tune into 99.7 ever since I came back from the States, and yesterday, I remembered why, sorry.. but yeah it is Uruj’s vooice (more like tone). It seems like she’s a news girl, except confused and waay too excited. It just pisses me off.. Again, I don’t want to be offensive, but that’s exactly how I feel. Advice to her would be: lose the tone and stretching of words. I didn’t realize the content of the show since I couldn’t hang in there for more than a minute.. but yeah.. lame jokes.. not funny! I feel like a monster.. sorrry.. no offense!

On a couple of occasions I’ve heard this horrific imitation American accent that swirls up and down in a ultra-predictable rhythm.

I’m quite surprised to therefore find you posting on here and asking what’s wrong with your MC’ing style.

Uruj, I’m 100% confident that you don’t speak like that in real life else you would probably not have many friends.

Please stop trying to ‘put on’ some ‘heinous voice’ and talk normally – like you would if you were applying for a new job.

It would make it much more pleasurable for your audience and give you a lot more credibility.

URUJ, these people are used to listining to one fixed CD, that keeps playing all day and night, listining to third grade vocab…cant understand that there are people who, are actually them, and not try to be someone.
about the music, i think you are good, you play everything and not only hip-hop….play a lot of variety, talk about the song and singer a bit, ..a bit of history behind the song, you know that kida stuff.
actually you let them be, you are doing good, you have a lovely voice, which doesnt break…..I TRULY LIKE IT. i crave for that voice on radio, after the revolution in Delhi on FM radio..you are the next best thing..

I think a co-host would be excellent alot of DJ shows in Canada and england are hosted by 2 djs…..the laughing is a bit much and is kind of used as a filler…many djs use background music while they talk like the intro to the next song…like a teaser….oh ya and its pronounced “avril LAVEEN” not Lavine. You guys aint Howard Stern or Rick Dees. Just play the music. The only reason you even have spots in 99.7 is because MOI is very lax with who it hires for either KTV2 or 99.7 – in part because they dont know shit about English language programming, professionalism or radio etiquette.

You wouldn’t even get across the Virgin Radio front door in Dubai.

You asked for criticism, accept it if you are sincere but if you intend to go on a blogger witchhunt (by lambasting us on your show) then you are doomed. Many have tried and failed before you, including Bazaar magazine and others.

Agree with Nat 100%. Every one is blessed with many talents but one of them is the best one which should be utilized to earn. All we need to do is to try different things in life until we figure out what we are best at.

Efforts make a difference but unless you have a natural gift for something, you cannot go as far as you would like to. So Uruj, keep trying but also keep in mind that there is some line of work out there which naturally suits you and you can do very well there with less effort.

ur voice gives me a headache
and the songs u play are so out of date even my grandmother says the songs are a bit old.

I personally dont think you’re cut out to be a dj, no offense but most of the time i feel like you have nothing to say so you just elongate the pronounciation of words in a wierd tone while saying “yah” at the end of each sentence..

im not sure about the song choices because I never listened long enough to hear the songs!

1. Stop trying to act all American or “sound” like one, cause it’s just plain annoying. I dunno where your from…but please if your Kuwaiti, just talk in ur normal accent, and same thing goes if your Idian or whatever..cause your current accent seems plain fake.

2. I know this is gonna sound hursh but it’s true…can you take about music or things that is going on in Kuwait and less about you or what you think.

I think RJ Uruj ROKXXXXXXXXXX ….. atleast she’s trying, unlike others who just talk …. its easier said than done… If anyone of you has the knack of being a RJ, then go ahead and try your luck… else just listen to what she’s playing…. don’t take the easy route and criticise….

Well I am new to Kuwait and after a hard day at work, I tuned into 99.7FM and heard Ms. Urooj. The songs got me singing away and I felt relaxed and ready for home, however, the voice of Ms. Urooj, well….

I am a native from the United Kindgom and can spot a fake American accent a mile away, and it was not pleasant to listen to in between songs. I assume that she is a native of the sub-continent and it was evident whilst she spoke in her ‘PAMERICAN’ accent. Honey, ditch the accent and be yourself and stop trying so hard to please, its a nasty habbit!

The dj has lost it. First she comes up with a facebook profile and coz she knows people are gonna pounce on her big time she asks them to be good to her else they get one on their sorry behind.

The lady needs to drop the fake accent ! Seriously, it gets on my nerves !

There are no good djs now ! They get the latest songs when they are like weeks old around the world. All we get are the songs the Dj`s like !

I think like any job in the media, it is easier said than done.
Personally, I do not quite fancy the show(Night ride, or whatever it is called), but it is not only because of the RJ or whether her voice is a “radio” voice. At the very least, and in a very hypocritical world, she is up there every night doing something that Kuwait’s media needs so deperately. An arab woman RJ that’s not quite afraid to shell it out. Now if you look at the big picture.. Uruj could be an influential and inspirational example for other aspiring arab women who want to make it in the entertainment/media industry.. so instead of discouraging her, I think that despite her RJ capabilities, we should be supporting and encouraging her and her show.

The music? Now that’s a whole different story. My personal tastes lie in very specialized genres like the blues, Jazz, french classical, indie rock, gregorian, gothic, old skool rap.. etc. .. but then again Im a musician, so I dont expect mainstream radio to cater to my taste, which is why I dont listedn to it much.

Uruj…. You play good music…..what you need to do is : Create a fake show at home…. record your self at a good bit rate….. play it back….fix what YOU think needs to be fixed…..play it back again….. fix….play it back…. fix……

Today i was hearing your show, you said you hate SLOW rock, and a person dedicated a song to you, you said “EVEN THOUGH i don’t like slow rock(HUGE PAUSE)BUT okaaaaay” wasn’t that show people choice or whatever, so who asked your opinion Mrs selfish when SOMEONE gives you a compliment woman, SAY thanks. I do Shut off the Radio Because of her voice. AND i garantee there is more than one that feel the same way. Don’t force the talent, and saying “YAH” is weird. And i don’t get your Humor, or your sarcasm, you have no tone, and you DONT communicate your message to the audience. You want people to like you SAVEFACE and leave. Thanks 😀

Having grown up with Uruj, being in the same class and having lived next to her, I can honestly say she is not faking from having heard the exerpts posted by Mark. That is Uruj, allright. I don’t know what is it with all you haters. It’s nice to see someone who is notAmerican or Kuwaiti be part of the show- brings some diversity to the radio station. Some American shows here, in Arizona, are all talk. yeah talk about painful. Then there is one just dedicated to country music. OUCH. I left Kuwait 10 years ago and I miss the radio station there. Radio kuwait has come a long way from Nabil Aquil to Linda to Hani and now Uruj.
Hey nobody’s twisting your arm to listen to the show. There’s a;ways satellite radio or Ipods out there.

Maggie….there is a slight possibility that…maybe…Kuwait is not ready for Uruj….or maybe Uruj should understand and know her audience…and the kind of people who listen to boy bands and Britney Spears kinda genre. So I see no point in raising the bar towards diversity of music played by the station. I guess she’s gonna hafta give what the people want. You see, most people (when i say most i mean the whole of kuwait) listen to the radio while driving. Now here come the tricky part…people who are on the road driving through an entire FM programme are the ones who have nothing better to do but be loitering around. Now fer people like that, commercial music is best…I hope u understand what i’m trying to convey, on the diversity of people who listen to the show and the show period.
