Both me and Nat had our riding test today and it was a disaster. We both failed!
While Nat waited outside I went in first on the motorbike. After waiting in line behind 5 cars it was my turn to go next.
Now to follow what I am about to say next you need to view the map above.
Once I got to the starting line the cop told me I should drive up in lane 1 then turn and come down lane 3, and then go into lane 2 and go back up and then turn into lane 3 again and come back down. I was like fine. I drove into lane 1 and as I was about to turn into lane 3 the car that was parked behind me in the starting line had driven forward and was now parked in lane 3. So I stopped the bike and put my foot down and waited for the car to leave lane 3. As soon as I put my foot down the cop was like aha! I was like what aha?! He was like you aren’t allowed to put your foot down. I was like but there is a chick parked in lane 3 and I am just waiting for her to leave. He was like fine continue. So I continue and I finish the first test.
The cop then tells me to keep turning in lane 1 and 2. I did that like 3 times and the cop was like ok you passed. He then said something I didn’t understand and pointed me to the other lane. So I stopped the bike and put my foot down and turned around to ask him what he had just said because I couldn’t hear him over the sound of the motorbike engine, plus I had my helmet on and plus he was standing like far away. As soon as I put my leg down the cop pointed at my foot and was like AHA!!! I was like what the fuck?! Whats wrong now? By then he was talking to the other cops who were sitting and having tea, he was like you see you see he put his foot down. I was like dude I stopped on purpose to ask you what you had just said because I couldn’t hear you. He then replied telling me “bara bara” meaning out out. He had failed me.
I drove out of the testing area and saw Nat waiting outside. I told her I had failed and she thought I was kidding. I told her no I really failed. She laughed and got on the bike and went inside. Five minutes later Nat drove back out, got off her bike and started screaming out loud. She was really fucking pissed. Turns out when she first got to the starting line the cop started asking her questions like why do you want to bike and girls shouldn’t bike. He then told her to ride around in circles which she did but then he asked her to do a figure 8 between the 3 squares. She couldn’t believe he had asked her to do that because the space between the squares is extremely tight and can barely fit a bike. While she was turning through the squares she put her foot down on the side of the curb and the cop was like AHA!!! And he failed her instantly. She was super pissed because she felt that they made the test impossible for her to pass because she was a girl.
Basically it turns out you need wasta even for a bike test.

I got my learner license and I got my 1st test date also,
When I went for my first test, they postponed after a month,
After a month I went to Maroor for my test, my bad time I don’t have a bike
And I was searching for rent one, I was waited long
A Egyptian man came for test with his TVS 100 cc bike with delivery box
I don’t have any other chance, I was waited till he finish the test
And I was requested to give his bike for test
He gave me and ride on behind the cars
I just stop next to the police man he smiled
He took my paper said yella
I move away, when move from there I noticed a symbol
Stop see and drive, I did the same
I just returned the bike to respected man
I was waiting my result
The man who gave me the bike he failed 5th time also
I thought I also the same
After half an hour I got my papers I was really
Surprised….
Yes I passed the test….
After two years just today the golden day
I bought a brand new ninja 300 2015
Am waiting to drive now…,,,
Passed my car test the 3rd time with wasta. The first time he asked me to parallel park after pulling the barriers a foot in on each side basically making the space smaller than the car.. of course I couldn’t park and I failed.
The next time I DIDN’T EVEN DRIVE MAN! I got in, he took a circle of the testing area and said ‘sawi taleem’ (which I think means get training). 3rd time I didn’t drive again, but I had wasta and I passed.
Tough one… I know it can get VERY frustrating.. best of luck though..to both of you.
That sucks. That’s gender descrimination! O well, on a pausitive note, there’s always a next time. What would be really annoying is if you failed the test and Nat passed. It would be great but you know…

I would take this matter further and challenge it in the court for what ever it takes. Do they have any supervisors ? They obviously should have somebody who they report to, like a ministry or commission.
This “WASTA” system has got to stop. It effects the most deserving people like yourself. No wonder Kuwait has so many road rages because many of the MORONS have got their licenses through WASTA.
I dont know about MEDIA in Kuwait, but it would be nice if these things are brought forward to public and government notice, starting with MEDIA for example, writting articles, writting to ministry, writting to BLAH BLAH BLAH, you should have got an Idea by now.

Stupid, I am sure they failed Nat because she’s a girl. Idiots. Well, yeh it’s sad but nothing in Kuwait seems to work without Wasta.

sorry Mark I used my wasta to fail Nat.. He must have gotten it wrong when I told him Lebanese couple. Next time you will pass for sure. Nat will have to suffer for a bit longer.

Haseeb as far as i know the local media in Kuwait is not that developed to report scandalous /investigations. probably risky for them.
Borzagia a figure 8 drive as the nember suggest is just driving around in two circles to form an 8 but in this case Nat was asked to do this in a tight space.

I really hate the policemen there. They are impolite and they failed me on my first driving test because I am a young man. You need to be a philipino whore or a young sexy Egyptian, Lebanese girl to pass the test!!
Labeeb, Nat is a young Lebanese woman who failed specifically because she is a girl so that throws your theory right out the window.
I sympathize with what you guys have been through. But at the same time (not in your case but in general), I hate the fact that people can use wasta to get a license – because the majority of young Kuwaitis get their driver’s license without knowing how to drive, and that’s why Kuwait has so many accidents. I’m one of the only Kuwaitis I know who took 20 hours of official driver’s ed in Kuwait and then took the proper test – written and driving.
But your scenario is of course different from the stupid 18 year old kids who use wasta to be able to drive a car. What happened really sucks. I’d say try one more time – you might have just gotten a real prick. Go at a different time of day and hopefully someone else will be there. If they fail you again, then I think you should immediately take it to a higher person right there. Don’t tell him you’re going to – just enter the building and go straight to the supervisor (if there even is one).
If all else fails, take them some Krispy Kremes as a bribe. Cops love donuts, don’t they? Or has the Kuwaiti donut craze not reached our stellar men in khaki?

I failed my driving test too, because the cop was a jerk just like your situation, but got my license 7 days later when tested by a gentleman cop.. (or it maybe just my lucky day?)
anyway you can simply get wasta and problem solved !

What an asshole he was. It sucks when you have to catch someone in a good mood in order to pass. I swear, the whole mazaaj thing is enough to drive ya nuts. I wonder…can you get a lisence in another country and drive here…? Better yet, go with a translator. Then you don’t have to deal with his bullshi&%.

I don’t even know why you & Nat are so keen about getting the license !! Your training permit is perfectly good to ride officially on your own on the public roads but without a passenger and avoiding very busy main roads
(Iknow that means all the roads of Kuwait!!!!).
But no need to be so hard on the cop or yourselves.The truth of the mater is that they have a daily quota to pass.some are lucky & others are not.I suggest you ride for few months and get plenty of experience then just ride into the test as a breeze.You do not need WASTA
