So last night I was trying to go to sleep at around 1:30am when I heard a loud commotion outside. I’m used to fights taking place underneath my building since there is a billiard place next door but this didn’t sound like an ordinary fight since it was pretty loud. So I put on my pants and hoodie and headed downstairs to see what all the commotion was about.
Turns out there were around 30 guys pushing, shoving, shouting and punching over I don’t know what. I thought about taking my phone out and shooting some pictures or video but since no one else was doing it I figured it would probably not be a good idea to do so. I ended up going back up to try and go back to sleep but around 15 minutes later 5 police cars arrive filled with cops.
Now that’s the first time I’ve ever seen cops come to a fight in my block. I’ve actually tried calling the cops myself before when there were guys running around the mall in my building with razor blades trying to cut each other and the cops never came. So my theory is this. I think the cops are starting to take these street fights seriously after the incident that took place at Marina Crescent. Are they waiting for a major incident to take place on the Gulf Road before they start patrolling it?

30 guys huh? So all of them fighting over the last hooker in that brothel next door?
What was the incident on marina crescent?
a guy got stabbed to death by 3 people
good they finally reacted, we had similar problems in our neighborhood and they never showed up!
((feeling an Elvis song coming on))
fighting are increasing day by day some serious action must be start by the Government. on friday when i was coming back from Camping on my way i saw a fight on subhan road, 10 guys beating 1 guy and every one was watching….:(
@3bood……so were you.
🙂
Cops are taking everything serious nowadays, a little too serious if anything. A friend of mine was riding his vespa and was jumped by undercover cops who took away the key and asked for license and registration. Yes, a Vespa. Where he told them he didn’t have a license, they impounded the bike. And yes, he was wearing a helmet.
Another friend of mine was racing on the second ring road at night, they busted him, had him spend a night in a jail cell a long with a bunch of others, gave them a speech the next day about safety and impounded the cars for a couple of months.
I’m seriously not trying to sound like a jerk, but your friend did not have a motorcycle license. I know it’s a vespa, but that’s the law.
Your second friend also broke the law man, what if an accident happened?
Sorry M, but I’m very much with Na9er on this one, although a Vespa isnt a 1000cc sport bike it does require a license, it would require a license in any developed country in the world.
And street racing isn’t something to be taken lightly, even if there was no traffic.
Sorry for the tangent but here it goes….
People apply your same logic to the buggies that the kids drive all over the neighborhoods, main roads and highways. People say “they are just buggies” and don’t do anything but they are illegal in multiple ways. They are not made for the streets, they have no lights no blinkers etc. The kids Never wear helmets. And they aren’t even old enough to have drivers licenses for cars so how is it ok for them to drive buggies on our streets. (its mostly their parents fault for buying them and letting them do it)
If people don’t respect the law and don’t fear the prospect of consequences then the streets degrade into what we have hear in Kuwait, a free for all, complete mayhem.
Its scary out there people, be careful, wear your seatbelt.
Sorry again but i had to get it off my chest
Actually its the engine displacement that would dictate if a license is required or not. So depending on what Vespa he was riding, a license might or might not be required.
Where was this?
Salmiya
Mark, you should’ve slipped into one of the Cop cars, taken it for a ride and then put up a comprehensive review for us next morning.
Dude one incident does no qualify your statement living in a ghetto!
Where did you get the idea it’s just been one incident? Search for salmiya on this blog and you’ll find a ton of previous posts about fights, hookers and other strange things.
next they’ll tell you……. if you don’t like it there..then GTFO!
Honestly though in cases where your neighborhood is horrible and you have the capability to move it might not be a bad idea. There are guys at work that move every 2 months because they never find a place they like.
But I don’t want to leave. I’ve been living in the same place for 30 years, it’s my neighborhood so why should I move? I’d rather try to get things fixed. I have hope!
Police is improving a little for couple of months now ever since they have put a new person in charge. I think his name is alzaabi or something.
anyway, they are only showing presence at the moment. i think they still lack power and force. hopefully that will change over time.
One of my biggest pet peeves about Kuwait is this statement…
“hopefully that will change over time”
and yet it never does.
You know people complain it’s racism but this is why they tightened up the family visa laws. If a guy makes 250 KD working 7 days a week, and you let him bring his bored teenage son to roam around the street with no money and no parental supervision problems happen.
People will say WHAT ABOUT KUWAITIS but from experience if a Kuwaiti dad hears his son is picked up by the police he will usually tell the police to keep him in jail to scare him 😛
Yeah, I’m sure it was an immigrant who makes 250 KD whose son was racing on 2nd Ring Road.
All those poor immigrants, same people chasing girls on Gulf Road, right?
Stop being a bigot.
Who complained its racism ?
Tighten any law and you will see the same thing nevertheless. Fools rush in !
Mark if the cops would had spotted you taking this clip then am sure you would had been blogging from behind the bars.
GTA VI Kuwait city
GTA VI Kuwait City: Salmiya nights xD
Seriously Mark, when are you going to move to the burbs? It makes such a huge difference to your comfort level NOT to hear that kind of thing at night.
Cops here are a joke and I’d gladly call them that to their
Face. Lame, laughable excuse for a ‘force’ of any kind.
I called once on account of a knife fight, once when
A guy decided to pound on an old taxi driver in the middle ofthe road,
And once when a clearly drunk man was harassing people
In Salmiya and was driving to top it off.
End result? They’d call back in half an hour and say
Ever so nonchalantly : “so, is it over yet? Must we send
Someone ?”
!!
I used to live a few blocks from Mark. One time, a drug addicted perv ran behind me into my building and took his pants down. I ran upstairs, called the cops. They said, “Go downstairs and wait on the street for the police to come.” I’m like, “Oh right, so the guy can finish what he started? Better I forget it and wait till he goes to your neighborhood.”
Stupid kids running around the streets with knives and trying to make a name for themselves and the cops here are a joke they just sit and watch the drama.
