I just saw a post on Confashions about an art auction that was held in the still under construction Phase III of the Avenues. The place looks great and the artwork looked amazing but sadly the public exhibition of the work was on February 8th and the auction was last night. Dear Mark, we were really surprised that we didn’t find any coverage about this event on your blog, we had an idea that probably you are not interested in art. We would like to tell that in our blog you can be updated with all upcoming art events in Kuwait and you will not miss none of them anymore!
You did not miss much. There were a few good pieces but the rest were junk. I could not understand the pricing model either. Lowest was 800 and highest were 16000 and average was 2500 KD. I did not attend the second day so I have no idea who bought what and how much they paid.
It is easy to say junk, but it is difficult to explain why. I never met an art critic which said that it is easy to understand the Art, but most of them conclude that to understand the Art – it is not for everybody. Discussion about Art should start not from the numbers but from the Artists as creators of Art, the part you missed with such superficiality.
