Kuwaiti MPs propose bikini ban on beach

Islamist parliamentarians yesterday proposed a law that would punish women who wore bikinis at the beach with up to one year in prison.

I hope this isn’t true. [Link]

I’d have to say, this law is quite inappropriate considering the amount of foreigners that wear bikini’s in Kuwait. Though i don’t think this is ridiculous considering that this country is run partially by Islam. Something of this sort should of been expected. The penalty is very heavy and unfair though, for wearing a bikini.

Instead of worrying what people can or cannot wear on the beach perhaps MPs should focus on dealing with dangerously bad drivers, stupid bureaucracy, corruption and the future of this country.

Oh, I forgot they are “Islamist parliamentarians”.

Cover up ladies.

If this idiotic law passes, then we may all as well save our 10-15 KD’s and just thrown on some shorts and head to the public beaches! Many people pay money to enter private beaches so they can roam free wearing whatever they choose. If we can’t wear what we want, then why pay the money? Next they’ll be telling us all we can’t wear sleeveless shirts in public…

They should do something about all the guys that harass women. Nat calls me practically on a daily basis complaining about a guy following her or stalking her.

They should do something about all the ghetto billiard places as well. I thought they weren’t supposed to be open after 12 but the one next to my house is open 24 hours.

They should do something about all the trash everywhere.

They should do something about all the construction that gets started on the roads and then never finishes and never gets closed and cleaned up.

There are a ton of more important things that need to be fixed in Kuwait and yet they seem to be focusing on the least important ones.

I don’t see the problem here?? .. Kuwait is an ISLAMIC country and everyone better respect the rules !!

In the U.S, there are some beaches that you can’t go nude, and if you did, you will be charged according to the LAW. If you don’t like it, there are states/beaches that allows it. It’s not about freedom, but regulations.

That’s the same idea.. go visit a another country in case you have to wear a bikini that bad.. or do it privately.

e6La3BaNo:
Exactly, in the US, if you want to go to a nude beach you can, you have a choice. That’s not the case in Kuwait, it’s “Do this or else!”

Like Mark said, the bigger issue here is that the Kuwaiti government isn’t focusing on much more important issues.

Patrick thanks for replying to that guy.
Kuwait is a country, it’s not an ISLAMIC country.
The majority of the people are Muslims. If you don’t understand the Kuwaiti Constitution, don’t claim something that you don’t know.
You have a right to live your life the way you see it fit, and the same goes to me.

And why would they want to go through all the “complicated”, headache generating issues like harassment, infrastructure, human rights and what not? these require “actual work”?
Doesn’t destroying take less time than building?

@maged, the way the proposal is worded, it will be up for wild interpretation what is considered “appropriate”.
It is disgusting how small minded those MPs are. Unfortunately it seems that we are continuously preaching virtue for women and excusing the men from any responsibility; because it’s so much easier to rob a woman of any rights she has than to actually enforce men respect towards a woman’s personal choice and freedom.
@Marc, why are you surprised that women get harassed? That’s what women are for, lust objects that should be covered up and kept at home. So if your wife or I decide to go out the door, all is fair!

@Bee,

covering up doesn’t even work! But staying at home will! I remember how girls with “Hijab” or even the full Abaya (top till toe) who flirt back… Tells you how effective these are…

My cousin and sisters are in Kuwait and they sometimes tell me that they get stalked much like Mark’s wife…

In Toronto, there’s an annual nude biking event that goes on. Yes, girls and guys can be “completely naked” and ride on bikes around the city. You don’t see guys stop one of them and start harassing here, or even worse, why? because there is law protecting them…..

So maybe those MPs should do a bit of work and make up an effective law for a change….

@Nael

Thanks for the T.O. shout out. How are things back home?!

I agree with you!! Remember when women were walking around town a few years ago topless, because it was illegal and they were protesting? Then topless women were allowed, by law, cause the women said “if the men can do it, why cant we”. Ahh gotta love Canada :-)!

Agreeing with Mark, definately we need safer driving and much better and fairer police enforcement!

Is Bahrain or UAE any less “Islamic” than Kuwait? They just enforce their laws against harassing women.

I’ve been chased in my car TWICE by current and former MPs. One guy was even higher up than an MP… (not going into details on that one!) One long-bearded dude followed my girl friend in his car making rude tongue gestures! Make it unacceptable to harass women and no one will care if a rare woman wears a bikini (where do these guys see women in bikinis? Are they out on Kubbar checking them out?!) Maybe they are confusing junkets to Phuket….

Did you see the story in the Arab Times? They went on to say that women walking their pet dogs are immoral. Nat and I are immoral as are several more of my friends here if that is the case.

I was reading the Al Watan paper and its clearer, it states:

“The proposal calls for a ban on women wearing suimsuits at beaches, islands and swimming poos. It does not specify if it covers private beaches run by hotels and resorts”

it continues

“MP Aseel Al Awadhi condemned the proposal as contrary to the constitution and “regrettable”, asking why it failed to also make a reference to men.”

So that’s cool.

Kuwait IS an islamic country. If you don’t like the rules then nobody is forcing you to stay. I agree that they should pass the law, seeing its one that could help lessen the problems that happen on the beach. A lot of young women get into trouble for even being seen in one. a lot of fights start because of some person making a pass at women on the beach, guys WILL start fights with each other over these girls if they see a one wearing one of these swimware. so you know that bikinis wont exactly help the situation

So your solution to the guys who harass the girls is to cover the girls? Why don’t you just arrest or fine the guys instead? Can’t the same people who will monitor what the girls wear on the beach instead be used to keep the guys on a leash?

While we’re at it, we should ban women from driving, since that’s causing traffic and problems on the Gulf Road, isn’t that a good idea Bader?

Seriously. I thought we were passed the “if you don’t like it, leave” comments.

Just because its an Islamic country, doesn’t mean it can’t be a country of choice and freedom. Instead of banning mundane things, the government should educate the mass public about what’s wrong with guys abusing women, chasing them down and causing problems. Because the problem doesn’t lie with the women, but the mindless idiotic male populace in Kuwait.

Bader, why don’t they just pass a law that ALL women should be enforced to wear that full body hijab swimsuit– or whatever it’s called. I bet you my LIFE that still wouldn’t keep men from harassing women. So OBVIOUSLY women & their swimsuits are not the issue here. It’s the MEN & their lack of respect towards women. Heck, why don’t we just have segregated beaches…

But again, the only stupid & ignorant response made lots of people would be to: GTFO

Oh, how that one idiotic phrase solves all of Kuwait’s issues *rolls eyes*

To be honest this is something religious to us muslims [since we aren’t allowed to stare at women] this kinda reduces the chances of you getting stalked or harrased as a woman, so I AGREE with this law since it does help us with living on our Islamic lives

P.S @ b

If a country is ruled by islamic leaders, and has a Muslim filled goverment what does that mean hmmmm…? :]

And anyway the girls who flirt back are making their choices but just saying that most women who flirt back wear the Abayas and Hijab just to make themselves look “Respectable” which in my eyes is pretty pathetic.

And as usual of course, as in all these rulings, there will be no ban on men wearing eeny weeny speedos on the beach, because you see us women aren’t capable of lust……IDIOTS.

BTW, if people just LOVEEEE to live in an extremely “Islamic” & repressed environment, why don’t THEY GTFO and move to Saudi Arabia??? I think they would be in heaven there! LOLLLL!!

Well said Mark!
You know how women are to blame for everything, unfortunate to say that EVEN if they banned women from wearing bikinis perverted men will still continue to chase them on the streets like hungry dogs, so pretty much if they wear them or not the problem still remains and will remain because so far everyone in the world is moving forward and Kuwait is just going backwards and things will always stay the same, the only thing left for them to do is f**k on the streets! DISGUSTING

You must be kidding me? Clearly they have no concept of something called “Self Restraint”. They should take a course or two or even a dozen until they get a hold of their Johnsons.

Sure blame women, it’s their fault all the way, guys are innocent, they are just following their instincts that’s all.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL this is my favourite bit:

””Some women wear outrageous clothes, commit indecent acts and engage in emotionally provocative behaviour,” the proposal said. The MPs complained about women singing and dancing and bringing their dogs to the beach.”

singing……OMG…..DANCING…worse…but jayzus, bringing their DOGS to the beach…for goodness sake…..thank goodness I’m going on holiday soon.LOL

Also, why are bikinis a problem here, but not anywhere else in the world where women wear them? You don’t see guys fighting on the beaches of Lebanon, Dubai or Bahrain, do you?

Tribalism.

Men are fiercely protective of women related to them and strangely yet find it ok to harass women not related to them.

And due to the fact that women are treated like well pedigreed horses here, only allowed to mingle with certain male horses of their owner’s choosing to insure financial security, reputation and status.

With Lebanon, mingling with the opposite gender from a young age and due to their more liberal culture and due to the lack of the stone-age tribal mindset we don’t see guys harrasing women.

With Dubai and Bahrain, the former being a city built simply to cater to foreigners and the latter being an oversized US military base things are different.

Guys, guys! These MPs do it all the time. All they do is PROPOSE and PROPOSE and PROPOSE and nothing is implemented. NOTHING! 70 or 80% of their proposals are just proposals. So, don’t give them your attention.

Just to add this, ask any Kuwaiti about the so-called proposals of MPs and they will point out that they are just proposals and nothing else.

TO the guy names “b”…. Who the heck told you that Kuwait is NOT an islamic country?
Q8 has a constitution that is nuilt on shari3a law… which means it is run according to islamic rules. Anyone who was here in the 80s knows that kuwait was much more conservative…anyone who was here in the 60s and 70s knows kuwait was even MORE liberal than it is right now…

I agree with Mark, there are WAY MORE things for those “islamic” MPs to focus on rather than some women chosing to wear bikinis. Deal with the important things first…. Once you do that, no one will even wonder why you are dealing with the bikini issue.

@b,
did you even read Kuwait constitution before commenting ? “The religion of the State is Islam, and the Islamic Shari’a shall be a main source of legislation” !!!

These beaches are owned by the government, and they have the right to restrict or allow whatever they want. FYI, even lets say hilton..

It’s like making alcohol legal, passing a law that forbids it, and then we hear everyone moaning!

Besides, I’m sure everyone knows that you cannot eat or drink in PUBLIC during Ramadhan, regardless of your religion. Doesn’t that mean you are guided by the islamic religion when you live here?

You can’t say it’s legal in Lebanon, Dubai, Egypt, but not Kuwait ! That’s a different country with different rules.. Again, if you don’t like it, go to Lebanon/Dubai/Egypt and wear your bikini. EASY!

@Patrick,
“or else” simply means do it privately, not in public property.
I do agree that there are a lot of important things to focus on, but that doesn’t make passing this law wrong! ๐Ÿ™‚

@ rad-dude81,

U r right, man. I was just gonna say that. In fact, my dad and I discussed how such proposals are just silly proposals that won’t even be applied. It’s just a proposal. No wonder these MPs lost seats in last year’s elections. Don’t lose sleep over this.

So you guys wants to say: it is ok for France to ban Neqab, it is ok for Turkey to ban Hejab and it is not OK for Kuwait to ban ladies from wearing swimming suits on the public beaches?

Once in the UK, a lady told me as long as you are in our country you have to do what we want.. and guess what? we can’t say the same here, otherwise we will be called idiots!

@ D’fine,

Believe me, MPs of the 60s, 70s & 80s were not like this. They were open-minded & focused on the development of the country. Just look at the silly proposal now & you’ll know why many people don’t vote. Kuwait is run by a constitution & shouldn’t be by these so-called proposals.

Ministry of Silly Proposals…..1st bikini ban nxt shorts ban l8r t shirt ban then skirt ban….after that hide those wicked hands and wear gloves….put away your toes and get some nice heavy black tights…..then final solution niqab, abaya….bye bye what little ‘freedom’ we have.

Um Khalid: Neqab was banned for security reasons in France while the hijab was banned in universities in Turkey to avoid secular strife. On the other hand bikinis are being proposed to be banned in Kuwait because the guys have problems keeping it in their pants.

Um Khalid:

Religious symbols in general were banned. For security reasons (like mark said).

And this is on a whole other level. They want to ban women for wearing bikini”s, because its causing issues between men. Come on.

Men.

No public bikini = more gay spread in boys and men

@ patrik
about nude beaches
It’s because they have somthing called FREEDOME OF SPEECH

where anyone can talk and express his feeling free no mater what he/she said

They don’t ONLY have nude beaches, they also have GAY NUDE beaches, where families bring their kids with them to the beach.

Kinda sick lol

The list of things the west bans which are related to religion is absolutely nothing compared to what a lot of “Islamic” countries ban, don’t you think.

It would be very unfair to compare between the two.

shame on you all want to see others sisters and mothers CHEST? imagine how it would feel to get looked at your mothers and sisters.

SHAME ON ALL OF YOU WHO ARE AGAINST THE LAW!!!

Habibi “Kuwait” no one wants to look at your mother’s and sisters “chest”….
People are saying those islamic politicians pick the weirdest of times to tackle these issues…

Kuwait is still stinking from the sewage fiasco, the economic crisis is still going, roads are broken, projects have stopped…

This is not the kuwait we love…
Me personally, I am truly sad to see this beautiful country going down like this.

Mark,
If women roam arnd wearing skimpy clothes, ofcouse men will go mad..
Have you ever seen guys following nuns or girls in abaya??? No !!!
So women should change the way they dress…or go do shit at a ptivate place…

nahin do you even live in Kuwait? Have you been to any mall? Haven’t you seen guys literally chase girls in abayas? Have you been to the Gulf Road? Haven’t you seen the guys harass girls in abayas on the Gulf Road?

Dude skimpy outfits? You think jeans and a long sleeve jacket is a skimpy outfit!??!

For those people that keep saying Kuwait is an Islamic country and for those that don’t like it they can leave.

Islam is not about forcing people to do anything. If you don’t like that then you can leave,

If Bikini’s are bad because they will lead men to act immorally, why are there not cases of women being attacked in Dubai where there are alot of beaches where women wear bikini’s? It’s because the government forced the men to start acting civilized and show respect for themselves.

Islam tells men to avert their eyes if they don’t want to be tempted, not to act like animals. The Hijab is also something that a woman should wear only if she feels convinced that she wants to. If you don’t like that, then you can leave.

If salafist MP’s are trying to maintain the virtue of society by getting rid of all the vices that are in society, then how do they explain the high rate of boys getting raped in government schools, which are segregated to uphold “Islamic” ideals? How do they explain the complete disregard to rules such as no smoking in malls? How do they explain the complete lack of respect for the environment? How can they explain the way maids are treated by some of their sponsors and the maids in turn not having any laws to protect their rights? How do they explain MP’s getting people out of jail despite the person ACTUALLY COMMITTING A CRIME?

Islam teaches respect for the environment, respect for people, respect for laws of the land and teaches people to try their best to make their home land a welcoming, free environment where people feel like they are safe and can live in peace.

Thats how I view Islam, Thats what I want Kuwait to focus on. If you don’t like that, get the fuck out of my country because you are part of the problem.

@Mark – We can go debating about this for ages. Some find this rule legit and some dont. It’ll go forever !!
PS: Even religion states that women should cover themselves..like in Islam & Christianity. Doesnt it state in christianity that women should wear decent clothes and cover their heads ?? And correct me if im wrong a women who does not follow the above is not allowed to speak in the church. But i see women going to church in Skirts and open long hair !! And women nowadays wear skinny jeans which is also not closely compared to decent..
There are hardly any women (both in islam and christianity)who actually follow what’s written in the book.
Yes, i support this law wholeheartedly but as Patrick said Kuwait needs to focus on the bigger and serious issues also which Kuwait is not doing ATM

Nerdcore:

I’m all the way with you! That’s the most reasonable piece of read I’ve come across so far!

Islam does tell you what you should do and not do, but it it also tells you that you have a choice.

Unfortunately, they throw away the pearls and use the shells…

Nahin:

You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about when it comes to Christianity. Not all Christians are the same, there are Catholics, Protestants and so on, they don’t all follow the same rules.

Also, doesn’t religion state that people should respect each other? So why aren’t the men being punished for not respecting women? Or all women evil and wrong all the time?

MP’s have no given goal all they do is divert you attention from one thing to another and you forget all to well the important things that count.

Kuwait should be managed by educated people, open minded, not people who oppress things, it used to be and will not be any longer if we continue leaving the MP’s do their thing, dont forget Kuwait is still a Muslim country and we have our tradition, we should keep it, but not to the point where you are oppressed by the thoughts of religious fanatics as some Mp’s are.

FYI what was the point of that MP going to PLA on that ship, when he should be focusing on the issues he was tasked to do ??? Let me guess media coverage.

Let Kuwait drop the parliament and see how far ahead we will get to, since all the Mp’s are there to fill their pockets.

Kuwait should just ban women altogether and declare itself a male-only nation LMAO (brother state of Saudi arabia of course). Maybe when it comes out, it can finally chill out.

@Patrick – you’re right, these guys should be punished but it’s a sad thing the cops hardly even care..so its upto us to take matters in our own hands and stand up to these ppl.
Kuwait is a very bad place for women. Even the decent ones are not left alone..
I think even with this rule it’s not gnna change the behavior of those nymphos wandering on the streets.

This certainly doesn’t solve any problems.

But I have to say, if they ban men from wearing speedos and those string things as well, then i will support baning bikinis – although it still doesn’t solve any problems.

Personally, if I may, i think a monokini is way more sexy than a bikini ๐Ÿ˜›
and put a looong T-shirt instead, and check out how sexy it looks when you go out of the water!!!
So yes, everything is in the intention and when intentions are good, everything is cool/
Now i@m lebanese and am supposedly muslim… at least my parents are, BIG TIME. I do basically everything islam tells not to do, but I do it in private and w/ a very low profile… I respect everyone and every view, even if sometimes I just don’t get it…
and even without a law, i wouldn’t walk on Kuwaiti beaches in bikini, nor even wearing a short.
Get a nice little home, not too expensiiiive, with a huge garden or terrace where you would do whatever you want (you & ur dog) without annoying, nor be annoyed by anyone…
(I have 2 dogs so I know what it feels like to be barked at by kids, teens or even adults when I am out w/ them)
…and if you find a place like that, pleaaaaaaz let me know

A woman must not show her entire body parts except for her face in islam, even her feet.

and when you go to malls you see those girls wearing smalll tight skirts showing their Thigh.

I guess they have to ban wearing things that show part of your body ๐Ÿ˜›

guys am Egyptian…and I hate that in Sharm el Sheikh for example they allow women to be topless on the beach…it offends me that the government allows these tourists to invade our culture..

am not with or against the bikini ban….all am trying to say is…I understand given the more religious culture of Kuwait…that a lot of ppl would be offended by women who wear bikinis on the beach…give them a break…

to each their own!

Dina u r right..to each their own..but IF they do ratify the proposal, i think it should be applied to public beaches only…members of private clubs pay a lot of money and they should be able to use the facility freely and that includes swimming in whatever attire they deem appropriate..

omg please dnt tell me it’s true!!! iv been living in Kuwait since 7 years and I’m enjoying the beach. wut I’m going to do if this news become true? I’ll leave Kuwait ;(

I hope its true…

We are an islamic society, Conservative… yes

if the perverts dont like it … simply leave … ๐Ÿ™‚

K what u just said was completely ignorant and i dont think u know what the word “pervert” means cuz u used it completely out of context..but just to play along with u, let me ask u a question: what about the KUWAITI perverts?? r u gonna strip them from their kuwaiti nationality and deport them?

we r not an islamic society..we r a muslim society with a high percentage of conservatives..some muslims CHOOSE to be liberal..and choose to go to private beaches..and choose to wear a bikini..its called freedom of choice..

Why don’t the parents educate and discipline their children like the old days ?!?!?! I mean educate them on everything (life, work/survival, teaching them about sex at an early age) and not just sending them to school. That’s why Kuwait long time ago was much better than nowadays. No morales anymore.
Now the hypocrits are passing funny laws I can’t believe that there are many beaches in Kuwait with women in bikinis, what’s with the exaggeration??
And to those backwarded/retarded comments; we know that the law is good and islam and arghargh etc, but it’s half*** and INCOMPLETE !! There are more important issues for the MPs to focus on. leave the rest to the PARENTS/FAMILY !

@Spartan

ahahahaha, i heard about this long time ago, i laughed so hard, although i dont like Foad Alhashim much but he does impress me with some funny articles.
waleed is one little big hypocrite you should have known this all along since he turned into the hypocricy sect of salaf.

Note: The source is not Kuwait Times <— lol once bitten twice shy?

@ freedumb i dont like to generalize and label all of the salafis…its better to observe each individual as a seperate entity and judge his or her actions rather than beliefs

I just want to remind our honorable wised men from the Islamic parliament , that NO women in Kuwait included foreigners would dare wearing bikini on a public beach ! for the simple reason that our honorable barbed friends are mostly the users of such areas and women will be automatically sexually harassed by them . therefore they pay a great deal of money to be able to remain in a protected civilized environment such as private clubs ,hotel beaches and so on . in that case there is no public crime of any sorts .

@spartan

i did not generalize actually if you read the last four words of my comment carefully you will know what i mean. it’s still true there some of them like that i’ve seen with my own eyes !

yet just another extream way of of not dealing with real issues. litter, poloution, poor people, bad driving, harrasment etc

kuwait could be a special place if these idiots did not have some much wasta

who here other than me has a deep down sick feeling in the last 3 years everytime the MP’s vote for anything in our country…nothing seems to get better in kuwait…

If Kuwait is such an Islamic country then why hasn’t this law existed earlier? This country has existed for more than 400 years and they decide to pass this law NOW? In 2010? They JUST realized that the Qur’an says it’s haram to wear a bikini? (or whtever the hell their reasoning is). People keep saying that Kuwait is an Islamic country, but people’s interpretation of Islam differs and there are some people (Kuwaiti people included) who don’t believe in ANY of those interpretations.

If wearing or not wearing a bikini is an indicator if how Islamic or un-Islamic you are, then just head to the south to the beach communities such as Bneider and Jlei3a and so on and judge for yourself how monolothicaly Islamic Kuwait is. These areas are occupied exclusively by Kuwaitis and the beach look ranges from 3abat islamiyya to 2-piece bikinis. So whoever says that there is a single monolithic version of Islam shared by all Kuwaitis (there are no atheists in Kuwait – alla ykafeena eshar! :p ), they are truly delusional.

Kuwait, as a port city, has historically been an open place within its regional context and receptable to outside ideas, some neighbors even thought it was too louche for their liking, such as when, 80 years ago, the Ikhwan of Saudi Arabia tried to invade Kuwait, they thought that Kuwait, with it’s famous brothels and cigarette smoking (lol), was an affront to their puritanical version of Islam and tried to raze it to the ground (ofcourse there were other strategic reasons for the invasion as well). So when someone says that the rejection of any foreign idea or custom is part of the Kuwaiti culture, then they are completely delusional as well.

This is not about how Islamic Kuwait is, this is about organised politicians, with religion as their safety net, trying and succeeding at turning Kuwait into something that it isn’t.

Iโ€™ve been to many beaches in kuwait (hilton , ras al ard , sha3b) i never seen anyone harassing women there !!
a big question mark for me will this be applied on private boats too !!!!!!!!!!

I promised I won’t look at the comments of this post because I knew I would be reading demeaning and very ignorant ones but I couldn’t help it. But over 100 comments because of a proposal for a “bikini” ban?? So everything else in Kuwait is perfect, and THIS is the “controversial” lifesaving law? OMG, as long as extremists are so powerful, we will never advance, yet will always be busy with what does NOT matter or make any difference. This is just a way to poison the people’s minds, and take them off more constructive thinking. So sad…

Guys guys guys , CHILL . IN WHAT PUBLIC BEACH YOU EVER SAW A KUWAITI WOMEN WEAR A BIKINI ?! Nowhere!

They do it in private beaches like Hotels or their Home pools or their shaleh , somewhere safe for them ๐Ÿ™‚ . i personally haven’t used a public beach since 1999

This Is The Law Here.

You Agreed To Obey The Rules Of This Country When You 1st Came Here .

If You Don’t Like It Then Go Live Somewhere Else

& I Don’t Now Why Are You Pissed Off ????

The Ban Is For Public Beaches Only

You Can Wear Them In Private Areas , Pools …ETC

And I Bet Most Of You Haven’t Ever Wore A Bikini Out In Public In Kuwait

You All Now How Most Guys Are Like Here So You’ll Be Better Off Covered Up

o.O looks like I need to get out more, I’ve never seen women in bikinis recently since Kuwait got ‘over-islamic’ instead of the easy going muslims most of us used to be. Well the article states most of them performing indecent acts and trust me when those pigs commit those ‘indecent’ acts they make Paris hilton look like a nun. Look at what most of those ‘people’ do, nightclubs are on the rise, cheating on each other’s spouses … its really sad God knows what went wrong … we thought we were done from Saudi arabian mullas in the early 1990’s who’d just come and barbarically condemn women not wearing the headscarf in this country.

THEY SHOULD ALSO PUT A BAN ON DUDES WEARING SPEEDOS! GOSH I CAN’T ENJOY THE BEACH WITH THOSE PANTY WEARING SAUSAGES THERE!.

So many comments!! I wonder if a topic about world hunger instead of bikini would get have as many comments!

So many comments!! I wonder if a topic about world hunger instead of bikini would get half as many comments!

Have you actually seen the crap lying on the beaches, and the stench coming from the water? who’d want to go ‘bikini-ing’ there anyway? Save your energy, go to Spain,Cyprus, turkey and mingle with people who don’t burst an artery over a bare shoulder.

What about… The women, girls, n married women who harras us guys… Plus these Islamic Fanatics are doing nothing but drive my country back words… If they don’t like our life style let go back to Saudi or Iran or Mars for Gods sake…

@ mark: hell yes cover up the girls if its gona help the situation. lets get real shall we, no matter how many poeple you fine or try to keep out (notice I used “try”) its still wouldnt matter. young poeple are fast to react, good or bad thats what they do. neither can you put them on a “leash” because they’re not animals. so seriously, instead of calling kuwait backward just because they are enforcing a small law which is within their right and actually the right thing to do (ISLAMIC COUNTRY REMEMBER?) you people go ahead and question kuwait’s entire power and right for the stupid option of wearing the stupid bikini’s. makes me wonder who actually likes Kuwait for what it is.

@ P: if your calling my comment idiotic and stupid then you should really reflect on your own self. get it?

to everyone else: I really just don’t care.

go Kuwait ๐Ÿ™‚

it’s a shame that this is still only a proposal.

At anyone who finds the proposed law infringing on what they consider their “rights”, I say two things:
1. eat your harts out ^_^
2. THIS IS SPAR.. KUWAIT!!!

i completely agree with Qster,
as much as i love kuwait for being a democracy, we dont deserve it, the right people arent being elected, ignorant, closed minded, selfish people are the ones getting places in the majles and all they care about is their own benefits,
really we should just let the amir rule, we would be a much better country, f*ck democracy if its driving our beloved kuwait backwards, i mean seriously are bikinis on beaches even worth discussing now with all the other problems flooding kuwait that need solving?
grow up MP’s, just grow up…

Some STUPID People are still thinking that we are Aliens and we kuwaities should ONLY live togeather, doing such thing for a Private Beaches will kill tourism in Kuwait Come on the Queue on the jail will be so damn long, plus Kuwait income will increase catch 80 women make 80,000 KD /Month plus u will enforce her husband to stay one month here instead of the few days and he will pay for the hotel/flat car rental, food etc u killed two Birds with one rule COME ON i didn`t know that we have Commertialy Devilised Thinking Poeple in Kuwait ๐Ÿ™‚

P.S: This is old news that rule (minus the crazy fine/jail) already applies for public beaches so why bother with the rule anyway HELLO useless MPs ?!

Hahahah sorry i didn`t know they were joking ITS ONE YEAR not one month the husband will leave immediatly and he will divoirce dammit but kuwait will still have the 80,000 KD ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you think for a second that the problem is the women, you are delusional. I don’t know where you got this idea that women are these evil seductresses who can and do force men to do things they wouldn’t do normally if only those conniving ladies weren’t around. If the men can’t control themselves, that’s on them, and the people who keep telling them they shouldn’t be expected to and it’s the women’s fault anyway. Why should they take responsibility for their actions when you don’t hold them accountable?

ย Ppl will argue that Kuwait is not an Islamic state in the constitution, islam is just a major source for legistlating.. Yet, the majority of ppl in kuwait are muslims and conservative.. Therefore the norms of society, whats acceptable, whats taboo, they are all interwined with Islam.. Most kuwaiti ppl WILL find a bikini in public to be offensive, both in a religious and culturlal manner.. I personally find no problem with the law, especially after several european countries banned the hijab and niqab.. each country has laws that must be respected.. Some said france banned the hijab+niqab for security reasons; u are wrong. Sarkozy himself said that the niqab was taking away the woman’s identity and dignity.. They banned it bcuz they dnt understand it, they ย think it is sumthing that only serves to oppress women, which is a false notion and one that disrespects the teachings of islam.. It is clear they have an “anti islam” agenda.. One person mentioned that in tHe US u have nude beaches in addition to normal ones, that gives u freedom to choose.. Lol other than nude beaches in kuwait, what else do u want to see? How about brothels? Or weed coffee shops? Heck, we’ll just turn it into the new amsterdam! All in all i dnt care if this law passes or not.. if it does, ill understand why ..and i dnt see it as a threat to the evolution of kuwait.ย

It seems there a certain men that find “everything” in a woman tempting. I say for their protection we should send them to live alone on failaka! That way I can drive my car to sultan or work without tempting those poor weak men and help them get to heaven! That way they won’t have to take ANY responsibility for THEIR actions!

The clergy, by getting themselves established by law and ingrafted into the machine of government, have been a very formidable engine against the civil and religious rights of man. (Thomas Jefferson, 1800)
