When I was in high school the scariest word to me was maba7es. Ten years later and the scariest word to me is still maba7es. I just sent in my article to KTM magazine yesterday and a few minutes ago I get a phone call from them telling me that my article is illegal and if they go ahead and print it I might get a visit from the maba7es. They wanted to know if I was OK with the risk. I told them I would think about it and give them a call back tomorrow with my answer. A very nice start to my journalistic career.

freedom of speech in kuwait my arse.
How do you translate this word in English ?
hmmm… I think CID, central intelligence department
they are just a bunch of corrupt undercover coppers.
actually Maba7ith is the investigations dept.
whether its the CID , FBI or any other intelligence agency. All have the same reputation of being harsh towards the culprits.
It’s “maba7ith”…
let me tell you this.. once they get you in their clutchs its pretty hard for you to get out of it.. Thats the problem with writing something controversial!
Dude…u got a family. My advice is “its not worth the risk”
LOL KKKuwaiti, that’s like the first thing i told mark. maba7es is like how massri’s and hindis say it or something.
hatha maba7es yiji .. yasawi wayed tag 7ag babu..
I have been playing too much bombay tv,
KGB, MI5, CIA, KFC…maba7ith
Mark, I feel your pain.
Errr…
Why is it a risk for you Mark ?
Printing is an editorial responsibility. If anyone should get a visit from this maba7es (whatever you call them), it should be the editor of the magazine.
What the heck did you write about Mark?
Yeah.. What is it that you wrote and would get the maba7ith attention? Hmmmm *rising an eyebrow*
Man whatever you wrote you better think twice. Its not a free country. Everyone pretends it is.
hey mark ..
in kuwait we have freedom of speech, so dont worry, Nd dont tell anybody about wt u wrote untill the MAG release that if u wanna make fanz of “Mark” :Pp~ , by the way is the Mag free ?
Don’t publish it on the magazine. Publish another article about how things like that should not be illegal, then publish the article online and from an overseas based website. You could also link to it from the magazine article.
LOL@ KtheKuwaiti!!
hehe
i dont think you should risk it dude! hehe
not worth the risk dude….stay back….
lol it’s Maba7ith
it’s depend on what you write about it
in kuwait you have a good freedom of speech in newspaper and mag but not that much as you like
btw what the subject you write about ?
It would be easier to judge the nature of your article if you mention the subject you are trying to address here. Whether its religion ,homosexuality, politics , or any other controversial issues. Its better to be safe than sorry and as i know that you love kuwait from the bottom of your heart so leaving the country may not be a good option if the article has some controversial subject . Because the people in the immigration go nuts on occasions .
Great PR..you’ve created buzz for KTM. Everyone will be snatching a copy to see what Mark did/didn’t publish. They should pay you for that alone 😉
go for it , if you get locked we might start a campain to free bloggers ,, some buzz here and there
Mark, I knew the topic you wrote about would be touchy & a bit risky to write but I would have loved to see the finished piece.
LOL kkuwaiti 😛
Do it. Fuck em…
My article was about prostitution and I have decided not to have it published. Not worth the risk.
Yousef Al-Something wrote the article .. Yousef sent it by Email .. Yousef now lives in London. Problem solved…
Freedom of speech my a$$!
And they tell us we have that in our constitution and that the only thing you can’t talk about is the Amir.
So basically, you wouldn’t be doing anything wrong according to the constitution and law, but you’ll be hitting a nerve in some uptight people who’ll use thier “power” and arrest you or whatever, VERY pathetic of them….
Too bad nobody on the forum is really a lawyer! We need to get some kuwaiti lawyer’s opinion on this!
i know a lawyer, should I ask him?
Mark..Bravo..I think u shud go ahead…!..kidding..its too much of a risk!
hey, whats so bad about prostitution?
I’d like to read it, regardless.
That is why you should stick to a blog and away from a simple magazine.
To all the ppl that think freedom of press exists anywhere; Pfffff
Mark dude – u have made the right decision. It’s not worth it. Just stick to regular articles & reviews – you have a loyal following and your stuff is pretty interesting.
I say publish your article here…
lol@ K….
Mark you can have a sanitized version of the article in the magazine and point the readers to a ‘Director’s-cut’ on 248am 😀
Hello, Greeting, Howdyyyyyy..ok I’m from The Republic of Texas..eehhhaaa.
