Turns out when it comes to “Nation Branding”, Kuwait for some odd reason scores really well… like really well. Out of 236 countries, Kuwait came in 13th place for Q3 of the 2011 Brand Perception Index. And it’s not a one time fluke, I checked the 2010 index and Kuwait actually came in 6th place overall last year! I think that’s great but honestly I don’t understand how.
Norway for example is currently at the bottom of the list in 236th place… right behind Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq. Pretty weird, I mean they had the bombing incident and the shooting but 236? Here is how they rank the countries:
Our indexes rank all countries and territories based on how they are perceived in leading international media, published quarterly and annually. The indexes are based on analyzing millions of mentions in hundreds of thousands of news articles.

Does that mean its a chart for the most peaceful country?
I guess its based on the image of the country and how often they get into news for all the right reasons. Kuwait does a great deal of charity work and provides funding for many projects in less fortunate countries. All this is obviously covered in the international media, because of which Kuwait tends to remain in good light. But then again this is just an assumption since you also have the Czech Republic on the list.
It is all BS. Opinion based only. Just because it comes from an “organization” doesn’t give it any more credibility. How, exactly, would one rate nation’s perceptions by the world population? Can’t be done. And using media articles? Gimme a break!
Someone is angry US was #207
Not angry. Used to this kind of thing. But really how do you get perceptions from the world ON the world? Anybody who thinks US is #207 hasn’t been paying attention.
I’m guessing they just did something like:
Scan as many news sources as possible for a mention of a country
Check if the news was positive or negative
Average it out
There are programs that do it automatically for you, traders use it so they know whether to sell stock in a certain market or not.
