My First Crash

ducati

Today I met up with Marzouq again to go riding. We met in front of Galleria 2000 like yesterday and we headed off onto the Gulf road. As we were getting onto the gulf road from Salmiya I fucked up and ended up crashing onto the ground and sliding towards the curb.

I am still not sure exactly what happened. I have played the scene over and over in my head and my current conclusion is I was taking the curb at a speed faster than I was comfortable with and I stupidly pulled the brakes too hard and locked up the front wheel making it slide under me. I crashed on to the ground and me and the bike both slid towards the curb.

It all happened really fast except one part felt like it was in slow motion. The view suddenly shifted to inside the helmet and I was on the floor sliding towards the black and yellow curb and I can very clearly see my helmet visor getting scratched and finally I stopped.

I got up, and looked around to see if any cars were coming. I saw Marzouq had already stopped his bike behind me so that the cars could drive around us. I then proceeded to lift my bike up when Marzouq came and took over and told me to go sit down. He asked me if I was hurt and I looked down and saw my jeans had torn at my knees and I was bleeding. I went sat down, took out my camera and started taking pictures of Marzouq moving my bike and then of my injuries.

My left knee was scraped, the left side of my waist also, I had a tiny scrape on my left elbow and another scratch on my right leg. Finally my left wrist was hurting me a bit.

We parked the bike and noticed the left foot rest had brkoen off so we called TriStar to come pick up the bike. They told us they already had found out about the crash and the bike truck was on its way. Talk about excellent customer service. Marzouq wanted to take me to the hospital but I told him to pass by my place first so I could change and take Nats car.

I got home, took off my watch (knew I needed to take it off for the xtray), got into shorts and a tshirt and left again with Nat and Marzouq. We got to the hospital and two hours later I left with bandages everywhere and my left hand in a cast. Yes, I have been typing this post with one hand, its a pain!

I am back home now. I am disappointed my hand is in a cast because it means I won’t be riding for a while. My favorite jeans are ripped which totally messed up my wardrobe. But, I am glad I came out of the fall with minor injuries. If I was an unsafe rider wearing shorts, tshirt and no helmet you can bet I wouldn’t be here typing this post. I regret not having gotten biking jeans. I was actually gonna post about Draggin Jeans the other day. If I was wearing them me knee wouldn’t have gotten messed up.

Here are some pictures, the ones marked GRAPHIC are you guessed it, graphic pictures.

I have to end this post with a special thanks to Marzouq who was a true friend today. Thanks dude!

am glad you are fine, and thus, you wrote about it.. well, thats how you learn.. remember when we start riding a bicycle with both feet high not touching the ground, we smile and show off and then the next minute we are down.. and then we try again till we get there 🙂 thats learning… hope you get well soon..

Dont worry about it! Thats the least I could do! Mark wasnt going faster then 30 kph, he was just taking a turn when I saw him go down in front of me.. so I stopped .. and then you know the rest..

Biking gear is always a huge plus!

My friend I read your blog and felt this was going to happen. The lessons you took are still not enough to get you on the road. I suggest you practice in an empty lot or car park.No need to be a hero. A bike is a fun mode of transport but can be lethal.

Don’t be sad !!! this happens everyday and only the lucky ones come out of it safe , I bet that nasty wound on your knee hurts too , but don’t worry and get well soon !! salamtak

Thank God you are fine man! its ok take it in a lighter sense everything happens for a reason.
you’ll be more careful next time.the wounds aren’t that bad they ll heal fast.Good for you Zouq was around.

Yehhh….Captain Zookie to the rescue….Good job dude.

Yeh Mark, seems like you were a bit too eager to get onto those mean streets. It’s a good job there was no traffic or it could have gotten much uglier. Glad to hear you escaped ok.

Make sure you get back on your bike asap or you’ll end up developing a phobia.

And by the way, just a tip, NEVER keep replaying mistakes or errors over and over in your head – your brain will learn and begin to mimic this negative behaviour at a later stage.

It will be a game of psychological warefare over the next few weeks.

Salamat!
Matshoof shar!
When I was told about your accident I was like “what!” but then I felt relieved that Marzouq was with you!
I’m glad you’re ok and that your injuries are minor!

Wish U recover well & this is a real life lesson taht has luckily has not made major damages.
Lessons should have been learned
1- Do not short-cut proper training
2- Accidents can happen to anyone & at any time or speed So never drop your guards,,,always wear full safety gear, with proper gear most of the injuries shown would not have happened
and by the way mark you have nice legs !

I’m glad you’re OK, but if you listened to your commenters, you would have seen 4 motorcycle posts back that I told you NOT TO BRAKE WHILE TURNING!

You’re instructor’s an idiot for not telling you that. Let this be a lesson learned.

salamaaat dude .. ma tshoor shar ..

i dont think this accident will make u think twice before riding again 😉

Hopfully this will teach you something for next time…….Allah yhdeek to Islam (this is a sign of love no hate) cheers

Good to know ur alright. It was the inevitable I suppose; you’re always going to have your first fall. Now that you’re over it, let’s hope there’s no more.

get well soon bro. u need to NOT take the painkiller pills they give you and take panadol extra instead. save the strong pain meds for recreational use later.

Well, falling down is part of biking. I have suffered few. 2 great ones, back in india. The bikes/scooters were much less powerful, but the streets/traffic is much worse.

So dont worry. Ride as carefully as possible and also be prepared to handle such falls physically as well as mentally.

Hope all your injuries are minor. Best wishes & get well soon.

Hamdallah ala salamtak.

Remember let the bike fit the biker and not the biker fit the bike.

Go rent a cheapy bike and get VERY comfortable with it and then back on the Ducati.

Also remember:

Plan your ride and ride your plan!

Salemtak Mark.
I just want to write this msg, to make you reply and type in one hand . 🙂

Hope you get better so soon.

I’m just wondering, sinc the visor of the helmet is long gone.. Do you need to buy a new helmet or just replace the Visor part?

Take it easy next time!

Trini since the helmet never hit the floor i can just replace the visor. i still have the original clear visor that came with it ii can use until i order another new tinted one.

Mark, just heard about your crash. Hope all is well and you are recuperating. Best wishes on a safe recovery.

Try not to hang out too much with Marzouq anymore!
