No fresh items

One of my followers on twitter snapped the photo above at a super market. Customs have been on strike for only a couple of days now but the effects are already noticeable.

Thanks @Aamchit

سنة 1990 عمل الكويتي بلا راتب من اجل بلده .. سنة 2012 عطل الكويتي بلده من اجل راتبه.

My friend (@BarjasMAlBarjas) posted that tweet on Twitter. So. Damn. True.

Screw them – and I could have used harsher words. According to past blogs, most of the public don’t think that they deserve a raise.

Went to buy my AlMarai Milk this week-end and was greeted with these empty shelves. I will give up milk until the strike is over – I refuse to drink KDD. KDD milk would survive a nuclear war.

And Government want to replace all expats with Citizen in Government jobs.
Then is scenario will be common every 2-3 year !

…because expats would dare to strike in Kuwait…? come on…expats would do the job for less AND not strike cuz lets face it – if they go on strike they will get fired. Whereas with locals they can’t fire…

@ahmed: let’s see how long your fat ass can survive without a fresh shipment of kit-kat. If anything all menial-workers in this country need a raise.

@mariam: it’s funny because I tried doing the same thing but I didn’t think they didn’t have any almarai milk so I got long-life KDD milk. The stuff’s alright, no need to demonize it.

Well since the effects are starting to become noticeable the government will have to act fast before people really start to get pissed off.

They are asking for more then they are worth and they don’t really work at all, its getting ridiculous! Seriously they should be replaced with human automatons because they are not doing their jobs and rarely working!

Privatise the GD carrier – appoint a new CEO and overhaul the carrier. The RUDEST flight attendents that I have ever experienced on any airline carrier were on a Kuwait Airways flight. Most people have boycotted this carrier for years -it’s rundown, mismanaged and shameful for any nation to call it their national carrier. They’re probably paid more than Emirates for nothing.

I cannot comment about if they deserve a raise or not. I never really had to deal with them. Regardless, I cannot believe they are allowed to strike like this while food goes rotten waiting for them to allow it into the country. Customs is causing businesses in Kuwait to lose millions of dollars. I think its shameful of the Customs officials to allow this. You can protest all you want and also perform your duties to not allow food products to spoil and rot. And also, it hurts their police, military, and other government offices waiting on parts, equipment, and other supplies they need for daily use. Government officials shouldn’t be allowed to go on strike like this. Again, you can protest and have a strike, this is fine. The Fire guys went on strike but they had some guys go down on their own time to protest- they didn’t allow fires to rage on and accidents to be neglected. I think the Customs guys should have used a little tact before shutting down the country.

I think it’s good that they can go on strike – based on a valid reason. My questions are
1) do they have a valid reason to strike? If so, discuss and come to solution
2) is they strike completely invalid? in which case fire, hire and keep going.

Customs don’t deserve even 1% increase, all they do is smoke around and delay shipments regardless whether by air, land or sea.

I rush they all get sacked and employee those that don’t complain for a job they’re not performing well at.

The problem is that so many parties have succeeded in getting raises, largely with the assistance of the MPs trying to endear themselves to their constituents, that now everyone wants the raise that THEY think is fair. And it’s completely shortsighted. So oil prices are high now and there are surpluses, that means everyone gets outrageous raises. What happens when prices drop??

I don’t know anything about the situation, but I don’t know what I will do without fresh milk! Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!

I hear that they (customs) are having a meeting with the CSC today and if they can’t agree on any terms, the army reserve might be deployed to do the customs jobs for the meantime.

I remember when the cleaners went on strike and the police came in and started cracking heads. Brought the leader in for questioning and started deporting people.

Where are the police this time.

Ive been waiting for Abraaj water delivery since Wednesday. Now they tell me that due to the customs strike they can’t get their deliveries out of the free trade zone??!! So no milk and now no water! It’s enough to drive you to drink – oh yeah can’t get that either!!
