Offensive or not?

Personally I don’t find anything offensive in this t-shirt but some people do.

140 replies on “Offensive or not?”

it should read “I’m not spoiled… Im just kuwaiti”

But in general its not offensive cause every person has the right to their OPINION.

In my opinion, it cannot be offensive to anyone other than Kuwaitis; however, if I was Kuwaiti, I would find it offensive because it perpetuates — and, worse, seems to condone — the stereotype.

Also, it’s just that attitude of arrogance that seems to be so prevalent. As an expat, one of the first “Kuwaiti-isms” I was taught by the locals is the common expression “Keyfee Kuwaiti” (excuse my spelling). It’s an arraogance I wouldnt be prod of, or even joke about…but that’s just me.

seems offensive to me

if the designer or any kuwaiti involved in this should have their nationality taken away and thrown out of the country ( hes properly not even a real kuwaiti 6arthooth)

1) you don’t find it offensive probably because you’re not Kuwaiti.

2) No it’s not offensive. On a side note, Most of our youth are go-getters

I wouldn’t say it’s offensive, in the sense that I – as a Kuwaiti – am hurt by its content. But being lazy (or spoilt) is not something to brag about, even if it is just jokingly.

2 die for 😛 I have to have it. Please anyone tell me where Can find it ?
Sidenote : it’s not offensive , it’s more of an inside joke.

As a native I find it fabulous and I want one for a reasonable price of paint on a cotton t-shirt…

how much does paint on a cotton t-shirt cost these days?

Absolutely cool not offensive….. definetely a collectors item. I want before the moral police yank it off the shelves. Also I need to contact the designer so that he can design a T-shirt with this on it Kaifi Kuwaiti 🙂 and while he is at it .. Kaifi Hindi, Kafi Bengali,& finally the best for last Kaifi Amreeki FU 🙂

In case there any haters here on this blog the T-shirts are for my buisness partners .. Ahmed a Kuwaiti who I admire for his fuck it we can do it and take no prisioners attitude , Rajeev & Bashir who 24/7 are absoulutely the best at anything they are do and finally the CNC himself Me.

Come to think of it Kaifi is a perfect name for our new venture.

Ahmed /Raj/Bashir

If you guys read this blog get your asses to the patent office come sun up and trade mark Kaifi

Well there is also the stereotype that mexicans in then united states are lazy and that is considered offensive so yeah I guess it is offensive. I am a Kuwaiti and personally I find it funny but I can see how some people can be offended by it.

umm.. Mexicans are not lazy. They are the workforce of California. Mexican’s will bust their ass all day for little pay. I’m not sure where you’re getting your information, but I think you should get your facts straight before you start spouting off random facts.

I wouldnt find it offensive if it was made by a non-kuwaiti.
But it makes me angry that a Kuwaiti is making negative jokes of his country. What did we leave for those people who resent us?
I dont like people who show their country and it’s people negative side instead of positivity.

I find it funny, and I’m Kuwaiti. If you find it offensive, you seriously need to lighten up. Plus, Kuwaiti are generally lazy people, where else on Earth do you honk in front of a shop to get the guy to come out and get you whatever you want?

I dont like to encourage the stereotype since I generally try my best not to stereotype..
and wouldnt want anyone to stereotype me 🙂
Plus, my family and friends around me are from the most motivated and active people I know 🙂

i dont find it offensive per se…but some of the comments in here sure are…some expats just have a huge chip on their shoulders..i wonder if they were men enough to say shit to kuwaitis to their face, or theyre just tough behind their monitors..

Joseph, having an opinion is not an issue..its how you express ur opinion..u can say it with class..or u can say vomit ur words out..ergo, what u did..

Ron, tell me where ur from and ill throw some “truth” ur way…and i promise it’ll all be based on FACTS…im not sure ur familiar with such term..

q8teacher..do u teach “contradiction” in ur class?? cuz ur comment is one long paradox..u criticized how the tshirt perpetuates and condones the stereotype..then u say stuff like “the PREVALENT attitude is arrogance”…wow..really?

AH37 u dont travel much, do u..

greygoose..not necessarily..

security advisor..u couldnt think of any other way to make money huh?? very “creative” of u

I think “Na9ab” is something found in all countries.. but funny though using it as lebanese.. like “Wallah el 3azim talata I don’t use religious in my phrase… I’m just Egyptian” lol

They should have an option where one could place the name of the country that they want….just to make it fair.

If you guys think that Kuwaitis are lazy, then you haven’t seen Sudan.

duh…it is so easy to stereotype…if i wanted to be as idiotic as the person who came up with the statement on the tshirt, i can come up with a one-liner about every single country in the world…but its completely ignorant to make such stereotypical statement..

If your friend has this tshirt on
https://www.fna-nterpryz.com/catalog/images/im%20with%20stupid.gif
and you’re walking next to him do you find it offensive or do you not care because you know it’s just a tshirt thats trying to be funny?

I don’t find this tshirt to be offensive not because I am not Kuwaiti, but because it’s just a tshirt trying to be funny. You could replace Kuwaiti with whatever nationality you want. It’s not being racist like some of the comments I deleted from some people here. Haven’t you guys been to ANY tourist souvenir shop in the world?

If a guy is wearing a “Give me a hug, I’m Italian” tshirt do you think the guy is actually asking for a hug?

Mark, if ur gonna delete some comments, then u shoudlnt have ASKED: “offensive or not”?? cuz obviously u dont wanna hear opposing opinions..
moreover, there’s a difference between stereotypical statements and random/funny statements..stereotypical statements are NEGATIVE by definition..”give me a hug, im italian” isnt negative now is it??

Rather than finding something to be proud of,
offend ourselves . just pathetic … !!
These kind of Kuwaiti acting “COOL” !

nice design. actually kuwait is being late for those kind of humorous design, its alreadyfamous in other country and yet they are not reacting negatively, they just make fun of it… if i saw a kuwaiti wearing this, it will be fun. just be proud… ahahaha

I don’t think that it’s funny! It’s the “designer’s opinion,” therefore it’s his/her right to be lame. It should say: “I’m a fake, because I think that I made “Kuwaiti products” in a so called “Kuwaiti overpriced and over rated” shop called 52 degrees!”

May be not related but ….

Once I was talking to a Kuwaiti guy about business and he says ” you don’t sound like a Kuwaiti,u must be Asian” ?

LOL! I would probably like that on a Tshirt and that particular Kuwaiti dude wearing it. Dumb head!

Mark,
Come on. You can’t compare the two examples you give (I’m with stupid, and give me a hug i’m italian) to the T-shirt in the pic !!

I’m Kuwaiti and I do find this T-shirt pathetic and just dumb. But offensive ? No. Its just a poor attempt at satire and just not funny.

very!
Some take it in a funny kinda way but i dont find me getting out of bed everyday n working my ass off between University, taking care of two kids, and working on launching my new business funny nor easy to do at all. maybe the person wrote that is a lazy person, and tried to generalize the term without thinking twice.

as a 8Q-T, i call it freedom of speech. and as a firm believer in everyone’s right to express their opinion, likewise, i’m entitled to my opinion. and my opinion is this, the T-shirt is “NOT ONLY” offensive, but also stereotypical, and missinformative. it suggests that “kuwaitis”, in general, are lazy. which is simply not true. you cant generalize your judgment or your opinion or even your jokes on the mass population just because you think it will be funny and profit from it.finally, i would like to practice my freedom of speech and say that not everyone who lives in Kuwait is ignorant and shallow minded, only the one’s who buy this T-shirt. sorry, but it’s only my opinion.
Thank you very much

Who ever wears this, is lazy and proud ;p

it’s like saying “I’m not dumb, I’m just blond”
I’d get offended if I was a blond

there are humorous t-shirts that are funny like:

HARVARD (written in a bold, large typeface)

under it in brackets it says:
(I’ve never been there)

I found people who r taking it so seriously are funny!

If a FOOL comes up with an idea and u argue with him don’t u become a fool urself?!! lol

I wont 🙂

I’m not a colonialistic snob, I’m just British.
I’m not a rude idiot, I’m just American.
I prefer watching hockey over making wooppee – yes, I’m Canadian.

Surely, there could be more ideas …

what is this sh#t it`s not even funny this is pure arrogant if i ever see a guy wearing that dumb t-shirt i`d give it to him because he is insulting me and than what`s next what`s stopping him from saying more insulting thing cause this is stereotyping and where the is the creativity not much work put in to it my mother could do better

Extremly offensive.
Would an Asian like: I can drive…. I’m just Asian. ??
Or would a scott like: I ain’t cheap… I’m Scottish

WTH this is a pure example of how stereotypes ruin this world.

I beg your pardon? I work my ass everyday to work with 1 single day sick leave .
and btw People , I’m too lazy to cut Your internet .

As a kuwaitie i would like to wear one while sitting on my couch , after i work my ass up for 11 hours and get back home at 10 PM !

I dont find it offensive. I actually see the humour in it, but my question is that is being lazy something to be proud of?

@ Spartan..

If you read my 2nd comment,I made no mention of printing large amounts of Tshirts to be put up on sale I made it very clear that the Tshirts would be and my partners for OUR personal use. As you can see I am not a uptight ass and was having a laugh.
As for the buisness venture… The word Kaifi as I understand it loosely translates to “My Wish” which coincides with an idea and thought concept for a design studio I am thinking of setting up. Thats where I hope to make some money not T-shirts which I could order up from Thailand or Bangladesh. Besides Mahameed has allready cornered the cheap T-shirt market.

@ Axed Gamer

If thats the designers number … Thank You
as for your comment… Grow Up

Nah , i won’t . I’m cool with my age .
But not with stereoTyping . for whatever reason this shirt came out m, i would gladly strike him my Thor’s Hammer .

personal use?? then why do u want to trademark it?? 3alaina yuba?? and i think u guys are competing with al mahameed..cuz apparently theyre not the only ones selling CHEAP tshirts…and if they are not printing ignorant statements on their tshirts, then theyre even better than others who will do just about anything, no matter how ignorant and offensive, to make a buck

And oh yeah 01 more thing any 1 who believes that all Kuwaitis are similar or lazy need to wake up coz they are not. I left the office at 23.30 after getting there at 08.00 HRS and Ahmed was there before me and still was there at his drawing table hard at it after I left. The Kuwaitis that I know are some of the most hard working and hard hitting SOB’s that I am proud to know. AND THEY ALL HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR AND WOULD NOT ONLY HAVE LAUGHED AT THE T-shirt but would have lined up to buy 01.

have a sense of humor about it with ur friends…dont mass produce it and make profit out of poking jokes about ur fellow citizens and perpetuate an ignorant stereotype..not everyone has the same kind of childish sense of humor as u apparently do

For a government who’s average employee work time is around half an hour, I think this shirt is fitting. It may be offensive but fitting. 😛

You’re joking! half an hour? You’re telling me that they actually work for half an hour? That is absolutely amazing to me. Btw, who runs their Airforce? Anyone?

lame.. really lame.. GENERALLY speaking.. Kuwaitis are lazy from what i see on a daily bases but that doesnt mean that EVERYONE is.. smallest example i can give is.. ppl. forcefully try to find the closest parking to the mall door where there is an empty space 4 parking spaces away.. this i have seen myself over and over again.. God forbid they should walk a few extra feet!

The only hard workers, in MY OPINION, are the people that believe that their work reflects who they are or their personality. PERSONALLY, those are the people who most likely studied abroad and/or understand and appreciate the worth of money instead of being spoon fed all their lives.

I would never wear such a t-shirt if it was given to me for free.. but thats just me.. i just find it really lame and i think that smart people can come up with better lines to put on a t-shirt..

but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.. and as everything else in kuwait.. it’s a habba.. and a lot of ppl. will be wearing the t-shirt for whatever reasons.. meh..

OMG some people are just soo sensitive.

grow up people its just a shirt

also the im not spoilt im kuwaity is a much cooler idea

Do you know me? No.
Do you like to StereoType? No.
Am I Nerd/Geek ? Hell Yeah.
Am I A Jerk ? Only when I Need To.
Is Everyone You Know Is Lazy Like A SlowPoke ? No.

If Every Still Now Convinced We’re Lazy , Why Don’t you all go to Liberty tower (burj alt7reer) , or Citizen’s Service At afternoon . and tell me what you see.

Why should it be offensive? even though some people might find it so, i think its funny and its good to laugh while we are still alive ( :

Well Mark it all depends on perspective.

However, I know why you would not find it offensive and that is because you do not have pleasure of being Kuwaiti 🙂

“you do not have pleasure of being Kuwaiti”..how arrogant. I’m a Kuwaiti and there’s no pleasure in being one. It’s not an orgasm.

@seouldout…I think ur kidding, and just looking to start
some trouble….however, just for one second imagine what Kuwait
country would be like without the expats running it.

I’m Kuwaiti and I think it’s neat – not the most original
nor funniest tease I’ve read (tilting itself onto the lame side..).
The majority of Kuwaitis pin stereotypes on other nationalities
(I’m not naming but I’m sure you’ve been a victim or heard whispers
– “they’re bad drivers because they’re…” “they stink because
they’re…”) but when Kuwaitis pin on themselves, hell opens its
gates. Something tells me that this goes true to all of those who
found this offensive.

Really? It’s offensive because it’s all lies . when you are working all day long with over 50 customers Rushing in AT ONCE , and at the end of the day your boSs comes by and tells you “YOUR LAZY!”

All lies? Lies doesn’t sting as much as the truth.

I wasn’t saying that /all/ Kuwaitis are lazy! I know plenty of hard working Kuwaitis out there – but damn, they’re almost a minority!
The majority can be rather lazy and take advantage of their right to be Kuwaiti.
It’s not a right to be a Kuwaiti, it’s a priviledge they should work hard for.

I’ve personally waited /hours/ to /fill/ an application at a goverment sector. The assistance kept asking for coffee, going to chat with his/her boss. Couldn’t care less that there were people waiting, and when asked for a little attention they turn a deaf ear – I saw an elderly man get yelled at because he didn’t know who to ask!
Charming.

Another thing, Kuwait isn’t known for being a hard working country. Countries like India, China, Japan or The States got their hands full lazy kids but atleast articles on the National Geographic acknowledge their hard work in business – bringing their country up the notch.
What about Kuwait? An article about a mall.
Sure says something.

I’m proud of my country, and I am aware there are PLENTY trying to push it up.
But really, the image of us being lazy arrogants is pretty strong – Even we know that.

lol its funny and its sorta trying to point out kuwaitis are lazy, but if kuwaiti’s were really lazy as most foreigners over-exaggerate than how come we reserve fields to play football and are okay with staying at malls and walking around in them for hours?? us kuwaitis are great people wen we can work plus americans are lazy they just sit around and watch tv becuz most towns dont have malls and have extremely cold weather.

yuppp… it is offensive..

although some can see its cool and funny, but it will start to make ppl stereotype kuwaitis as lazy ppl and this isnt acceptable

A special Thank you for everyone who has a sense of Humor and for everyone who understood the PUN INTENDED.

The idea is: This shirt was intended for ONLY the workaholics who work more than 4 hours a week and/or own their own businesses, the people dedicated to their careers, and for the people who don’t believe that Kuwaitis are actually LAZY!

Maybe i should have just released the shirt:

I “HEART” Q8
(which we also own the trademark to BTW)

I personally find stereotyping, or calling Kuwaitis LAZY very offensive, hence why the t-shirt is a joke! Have you guys seen how many young Kuwaiti entrepreneurs are working their a**es off in their free time recently?

BTW, It’s our most selling shirt, and has been worn by only the coolest Kuwaiti’s i know.

Chill people.

and sorry for taking so long to reply. obviously i was just being lazy 😉

Dear designer,
I think your a genius. It seems your t shirt has gained more infamy than you think. I am a Kuwaiti that studies in Richmond Virginia and I saw a random American girl wearing the “I’m not lazy I’m just Kuwaiti” tanker . I asked her where she got it from, it turned out she had friends that were Kuwaiti and this was a gift to her. I later on found out that there are 9 I’m not lazy I’m just Kuwaiti tanker owners in Richmond Virginia
