Riding Lesson #5

Today I got set up with an old 650cc Kawasaki bike. Since I was doing so well on the smaller 180cc bike I got moved up to the bigger one. I don’t like this new bike though, its too tall and feels weird. I had two “special” moments with the bike one of which was really scary and strange.

I was turning a curb with the bike going a bit quickly when for some reason instead of pressing the brakes to slow down I pulled on the clutch, then when I realized my mistake I panicked and turned the throttle for more power.. I don’t know why I did that instead of pressing the brakes but my next move was even worse… I let go of the clutch. After that everything went really quick and blurry, I just remember I put my two feet on the ground, then front wheel of the bike lifted up and I did a wheelie and then somehow I managed to control the bike like a wild horse, I pulled it back under me and continued riding. I was in like total shock cuz I should have been thrown to the floor.

The second moment I had with the bike was when I was coming to a stand still and I don’t know what happened but I lost balance and the bike fell down on its side. The problem is this bike was big and heavy so to put it back up was really difficult, but I managed without any help.

Today was Nat’s first lesson, I can’t say anything about it because she threatened to shutdown the blog if I do.. so you can imagine how her lesson went.

hahaha! Nice Mark! A wheelie is crazy thing the first time you do it.. you will pop it when you “pop” the clutch while giving some gas.. hahaha! At least your enjoying it!

hopefully Nat will enjoy it soon too! 🙂

I will probably go out riding tommorow after work if I dont have a migrane! hehehe

Mark n Nat, it is all in your mind before getting read for a ride while you practise, please take a quick valuable moment think about all the operations of the bike, just refresh the mistakes or mishaps from last classes, what to do and what not in what situation. If you have some doubt clarify it right away with your instructor and then make sure you start of with a peace mind. You can really do it… it is matter of combination that you need to put together. Same thing for Nat and don’t panic at no situation, if one panic’s then he/she is out of control, you will loose all your confidence. So I recon a quick valuable moment is great to have. All the best for your future classes. 🙂

awww wish i could know nats story, but we all have to respect privacy like the good guys we are. Guess she’ll be riding on the back of mark’s bike then 😉

For a training bike, y not? Better get used to the 180cc first. Let go off the clutch too fast on a big bike and u’ll wheelie off backwards. I once saw a 1st timer learn the hard way… he gave the road a fresh layer of skin.

That was a comment on ur blog about ur 180cc Kawasaki-Bajaj Pulsar. And Nat, hang in there girl, you’ll get the hang of it soon! Cheers!

Tell Nat that the first time I rode a bike, it was so much heavier than I expected that I dropped it (it wasn’t even turned on yet). My friend helped me pick it up, then I got on and dropped it on the other side… but I did learn after a while. She’ll get it.

Hey guys, I did much better yesterday since they gave me a much smaller automatic bike, lol. I think for me the weight of the bike might be the main issue. Today im back on the big bike again, hopefully it will go smoothly as well.
