The Stealth Saluki

Just to give you an idea on how much K’S PATH (Animal Friends) cares for animals in Kuwait this is a story I just received in their latest newsletter on a recent rescue:

Around the beginning of March, K’S PATH was notified that there was a stray Saluki in front of the UN building in Mishrif. When John, our Lead Capture Specialist, arrived to assess the situation, he discovered that the dog was suffering from the worst embedded collar he had ever seen. The wound was severe and was starting to rot.

Unfortunately, the Saluki proved to be a stealthy guy and not looking to be captured. The poor dog was clearly in a tremendous amount of pain and completely terrified. John spent many days setting traps, attempting to dart him and missing and sometimes just attempting to chase him down with no luck. The Saluki then went missing. About a week later, we received an e-mail from a supporter describing a dog that sounded exactly like our stealth Saluki a little bit South of where he was before. John was on vacation at the time but as soon as he got back, he went straight out to see if he could find the dog and there he was. On this occasion we were in luck and John was able to capture the dog. However, in process of rescue, the Saluki was hit by a car. John rushed the dog to the Royal Animal Hospital and amazingly he was deemed to have no broken bones or any other damage from the hit. Dr. Jill and her team then focused on removing the collar and treating the horrendous wound around his neck. The Saluki remained in hospital for 2 days and was then cleared to go home. He has come home with John and Ayeshah for some extra TLC while he is on his very long road to recovery.

They’re really doing an amazing job in Kuwait and if you would like to help them out they have a page setup on their website with information on how you can donate. You can even donate with Paypal if you want. [Link]

Silly dogs don’t know we are trying to help. I spent 2 days this week chasing a puppy down the median of 7th ring road trying to rescue it to no avail.

i’m never able to understand this point – animal suffering is big or human suffering is big, whenever I come across posts related to animal rescue or shelters or events, i wonder why the hell are they spending money on this cause, they can use the same money to feed some hungry people in africa (btw i saw a BBC documentary about african hunger, one guy was eating rats to survive, I saw on TV how he was frying rat over fire and feeding his children, i was never able to forget that, still it haunts me). So, I’m unable to justify spending on animals. I don’t hate them, we used to pet 2 rabbits, 2 dogs, 2 parrots, 1 cat. I’m not a animal hater, I believe human comes first.

Syed all suffering is big but in this case though K’S PATH is responsible for the suffering of the animals in Kuwait. There are other organizations around the world and in Kuwait that are responsible for the suffering of the people in Africa. You can’t have ALL the organizations directed to only one kind of suffering.

It’s always about Africa. Let’s help the people in africa. What about the people in africa.
Sure it’s sad and all, but you cant save the world. If people rightly Care and want to look after animal, then whats the problem? Mark is right, let people chose how they want to donate money to charities.

In any case, I believe that all money should go for human sufferings first then if anything is left, should go for animals or any other cause. I do understand and accept that everybody has their own views & opinions.

syed all life is equal no matter how small or big….i do not think ur or my life is worth more than a dogs life…ur life and my life in gods eyes has equal value as a dogs life….just cuz ur a human does not make ur life any more valuable then an animals life!! apparently ignorance is ur strong side

“they can use the same money to feed some hungry people in africa”

Or they can use it however they like. It’s not up to you to say how people should be spending their money, the point is that they are spending money to do good, and we should be applauding them for that, not looking down on them for not supporting a cause we think is more worthy. You’re welcome to spend your money on whatever you like. I’m not trying to be rude, but I think it’s important to recognize that there are many causes that need support, and they’re not less valid just because you value human life more. I’d rather people do something to help animals because they’re passionate about that, rather than not doing anything at all. Wouldn’t you?

It’s not just Africa. The WHOLE GLOBE has welfare issues, the list is endless. Of course, SOME regions of Africa need global support to be able to run smoothly but that is no reason to neglect our own country.

Everybody, everything has the right for health care in Kuwait. Kuwait is supposed to provide that support to themselves.
‘I’m not a animal hater, I believe human comes first.’ – why do you superficially view the human race as something highly? Yes, it is a human need to survive, but do not forget that we too are animals (I do not mean this in an offensive way, yet you see my point). We once, and still do sometimes abide to nature’s ways.

And do you seriously think that the shelters are wealthy? They BARELY have any cash to improve the conditions of the kennels!

Owning a massive amount of animals doesn’t make you an animal lover, I know people who have 10 dogs and get their maids to do all the dirty work, and just show their pets off whenever they can.

If that documentary is considered disturbing to you, then I don’t think you should speak of suffering.

Africa was an example, YES the whole world has welfare issues.
Humans are not animals and humans ARE superficial , that’s why we are dominating and controlling animals.
Research on web on how much donations are received for animals and you can get the bigger picture.
Our pets were not for show-off, we had adopted them and i presonally used to feed them, in my home country we don’t depend on maids, we do everything by ourselves.
That documentary was awakening yet disturbing. I have done my part which is not to be discussed and I have no issues watching the same or other documentary again. Actually, I’m a documentary lover. I have GBs of documentaries.

I am well aware that many western areas spend a lot of money for animal welfare (and most of them don’t even spend it on improving conditions…) Kuwait does not. Very little donations are received from people here… not just for animals, anyway.

i love afl .. i wish that one day our government will wake up and start caring about animal rights in this country. animals are great, and they deserve to live a beautiful and safe life

Hey Mark, we got a very loveable stray dog out here at the Kuwait Navy Base that could use an owner. He is an yellow male lab with yellow eyes. He maybe around a year old or so. He’s been hanging around for several months now and everyone gives him all the attention he needs, food, water, and love. I would take him in but the dog that me and my wife have may get jealous. I hope you can help or at least get K’s Path out to get him to find him a home.

well everyone always talks about what a great job afl (ks path) does but why does no1 ever mention all the unnecessary euthanization that they do? they go around putting animals down that are perfectly healthy and NON AGRESSIVE….but yet they claim that they will grow to be agressive animals because they are strays…so are john and ayeshah psychic now as well? and just because a dog is stray does it not deserve a chance? what kind of an animal organization are they if they do not give strays a chance? they put down dogs that are 2 months old saying they will grow to be agressive while the dogs are perfectly fine with humans
