Yup, another earthquake

This is becoming a bit too common for comfort.

Our Office in Dubai told us that they evacuated the buildings in some areas

Have to agree.
Today’s tremor had everyone’s attention in the office. Even the owner of the company stepped out of his cabin to enquire.

How safe is Kuwait ?

the high rise buildings comingup, are they according to the safe standards of earthquake, (until some limit ofcourse)
are the residential buildings comingup like mushroom in all the areas of kuwait 8-9-10 floors,
are they constructed according to safety standards r they just pass the building by wasta?
experts any opinions ??????

Not very safe in my opinion.I do know that the wooden scaffolding they use to construct most of the buildings is against safety regulations in the western world.

So you base your conclusion that buildings are not safe based on the scaffolding done by some 9a3eedi?! I bet you’re not much different of the 9a3eedi who erected them.

Anyhow, Kuwait has one of the best building codes in the region that are checked very well by baladiyah.

why i need to ask is that, many residential buildings have basement constructed, but once the passing is done they seal it and rent it, groundfloor area for play is sealed and one room flat is constructed , that too after the passing , a wall is erected in the living room to get extra bed room, than the flat is called two bedroom, after the passing, so if they are doing these things to save or earn money by wasta , may be they might be compromising with safefy standards, i am mentioning about residential building not commercial buildings.

Im an Engineer i work in design and supervision for the past 10 years, i can say wasta plays a role in baladiya , beside for the past few years if the designer was a consultant firm ( DAR ) not an office ( Maktab ) then they dont need to submit a structural design to baladiya.
the main problem is that good structural designers are rare here in kuwait and workmanship is very bad , so you wont get the result as per the design.

Ha-Ha-Ha.
You just made me choke on my lunch. Have you any ideea how old are the Kuwaiti building codes? Baladiya has no authority to check the building design and even if they had I have very big doubts they are capable to understand structural design (loads, bending moment, shear etc) as civil engineering is more than chai & shisha. Imagine all those guys sporting “Tomorrow`s Engineer” on the car or nice and shiny helmets (they never wear) in the back window building the “Tomorrow`s Buildings”. I`ll move in a mud hut, more safety over there.
If you want the truth about most of the residential buildings/villas in Kuwait, find a structural engineer who really knows his job and get his opinion.
@soni – all those mushrooms raising 8-9-10 floors and more are built without a proper contractor and without any trace of consultant office. They get a design which is approved but nobody on site follows the workers if they go according to the design or not. Basic example is concrete casting, NO casting when ambient temperature over 35 degree celsius (that`s why the in summer you see casting at night where there is control).
Well i’ll stop here…. too much to discuss on this subject.

3 residential buildings are under construction, near to my house since few months, but i dont see anyone form govt authority coming for a check, may be they might have come while i am at work, but as per the work is going on , there are no checks, no procidures followed, floor by floor comingup.
i hope we are in safe houses
becos if such standards are not maintained , and god forbidden a earthquake hits kuwait, the disaster is outof imazination

Well I beg to differ. I once stayed in an apartment in which the balcony was closed with partition to be a bedroom AFTER the baladiya gave approval for the building. Builders build according to standards, get baladiya approval and then knock down a wall or add another one to their convenience. The whole system has gone corrupt.

This I felt it. I was sitting on my bed and I suddenly felt the bed move back and forth and I thought i was just feeling dizzy and it really freaked me out O_O

If you ask Chuck Norris what time the earthquake is, he always says, “Two seconds till.” After you ask, “Two seconds to what?” he roundhouse kicks you in the face.

It wasn’t an earthquake, Chuck Norris broke wind.

For our Indian chaps:

Last night we all have faced an Earthquake… But the real matter is that was not an Earthquake… Actually last night Rajnikant kept his Mobile in Vibrate mode…

Leading hand sanitizers claim they can kill 99.9 per cent of germs… Rajinikanth can kill 100 per cent of whatever he wants.

Ohh great, I’m a physicist too. Perhaps we can chat about HAARP experiments and results…..

Probably not, as I’m guessing you’re just one in a long line of conspiracy theorists. Get in line behind the aliens, JFK, truthers, mind control experts etc etc

Aliens on Mars ?
Chuck Norris has already been to Mars; that’s why there are no signs of life there.

For our Indian chaps:
Aliens do exist. They’re just waiting for Rajnikant to die before they attack.
