Better Books!

The Better Books bookshop has been around for a very long time but I never got the chance to pass by the place until just a few days ago. Recently a friend of mine started volunteering there and when I looked up the bookshop on Google Maps, I realized it was actually walking distance from my apartment. So, I decided to pass by the bookshop and check it out.

Better Books have over 10,000 used books (and some new ones) ranging from children’s books to cookbooks, novels, self-help books, you name it. The place is small but also really cozy with different seating areas and is stacked with books everywhere. They also have a cool buyback policy. When you buy a used book from Better Books and you’re done with it, you can sell it back to them for half the price. If you also have books you don’t need they’ll also take them off you and give you store credit for them.

Better Books are located in Salmiya and you can find them on Google Maps. They’re open daily from 4PM to 9PM on weekdays and 10:30AM to 8PM on weekends. They don’t have an Instagram account or website, but they’re on Facebook.

this might be outside of the topic… but there is something wrong with the email seller option on your classified. The recaptcha asks to enter the words above, where there are no words. And when I leave it blank, it says recaptcha code is wrong.

In addition to the book store they also rent out rooms for small gatherings and classes. I take my daughter for the painting classes and chess classes that is held there and chill out there with a book when I have a few hours to kill.

Mr.Jacob who I believe is a partner and owner of the place is one of the most nicest guys you could meet and an amazing conversationalist .

The store has come a long way from what it was when it was first started and I believe that this really due to the efforts of Jacob and his friends over the years.

It’s about time you came by Mark, since opening many years ago I’ve hoped to see you personally. Opening/Running a small business (read ‘$mall’) in Kuwait is challenging and Better Books HAS grown in leaps and bounds. I’ve wanted to partner with Jacob since he had Q8Books and expand on his bookstore model. His operational skills has allowed me to travel in and out of Kuwait not worrying about day-to-day management. I owe a great deal to Jacob as we continue to serve the community through literacy, fitness, activities, etc (and sometimes internships for young people). The future of Kuwait is in small businesses – we thank you for your support. And thank you Mark for highlighting us.

PS
I would treasure a picture of you (Mark) and Jacob (with Frosty, our beloved store cat).

So happy to see it still going! I was thinking about a couple of weeks ago and wondered if it was still going

I remember giving them some books and using the credit to buy some. Great and huge collection compared to its space
