Q8books Closing Down

After being in operation for around a decade now, Q8books, the small used bookstore in Kuwait City is sadly closing down. They started with just 50 books but now have over 10,000. They’ll be closing by the end of June so if you’ve never been to the store before or you’re interested in getting some used books at bargain prices then you should pass by before it’s too late.

The store is located on the mezzanine floor of the shopping center behind Johnny Rockets Salhiya. For store opening hours and to check out their collection of books you can visit their website www.q8books.com

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
I am working with atleast one Kuwaiti girl to take on this store and keep it running in a different form and location. So there is NOT going to be any sale as such – unless things don’t go as per plan. Of course, all of you are still free to visit the store read a book, buy a book, take photographs, ring the bell on the door, and walk away with a small memory of a used books store in Kuwait!

Ohh I thought its totally closing down. I frequent a lot to this place when I was still in Kuwait. Love all their stuff. Its just so disheartening that some good bookstores in kuwait are closing down though I remember one in Lulu before. But its good to know that this one is just moving to a new location and will have a new look. God bless jacob

So- ‘totally closing down’ or’totally staying open’?

Relocating? or selling contents and new business opening?

I’ve always loved the idea of an ‘Ellen’ de Generes type book store where you can go, buy a book and a coffee and sit down and read a few chapters and leave.

There is Better Books and Cafe as well and Operation Hope also has books for sale too so there are several places to find used books, no worries. It’s good to see people still read books these days.

The selection of books is not that respectable for literature lovers… I mean, they do not own any important novels from the works of authors like Bradbury, Vonnegut, Huxley…And no work from Orwell or Conrad? Not to mention the lack of important legends like A Tale of Two Cities. These are the classics, guys… 🙁

It is a bookstore of used books not classics. Also, English is the second language here. You will find the classics at Kuwait University library.
