1954 Film House

Cinescape recently launched what they’re calling their “first ever boutique cinema”. 1954 Film House is a retro-looking cinema that reflects the history of cinema in the golden era when theaters were much more glamorous.

The cinema is decorated with posters of old films and contains three different theaters with distinctive looks, each representing a different story on the history of cinema. I haven’t visited this new theater yet because of the fact that it’s located in Al Kout Mall which is pretty far from where I live, but it’s definitely an interesting idea although it would have made more sense if it also played older films and not just the current commercial ones.

yeah, the concept is amazing, but they should have played older movies. I mean i suppose there are alot of people who would love to watch some old big titles again.
or they could go really nuts with the concept and play all new movies in black n white. hahaha. It would be stupid but still.

Imagine watching transformers with a black n white film reel filter hahaha

You lost me at “playing current commercial ones”. great idea but surely enough incomplete experience without retro movies from the era.

Trust the opening night is with the epic – 12 Angry Men.
Hope to God it’s more than just a concept and they actually deliver on premium content classic and world cinema: I am thinking Curzon Soho meets ICA on the Mall at Al Kout.

Been there last weekend. Enjoyed the experience a lot. Comfy theaters, professional, pleasant atmosphere. To top it off it was also quiet and we almost had the place to ourselves. Will be my go-to cinema now.

I wish they would build a standalone cinema or cinema complex instead of being in mall, like they used to with Salmiya Cinema, where it be much less crowded. I know it’s a long shot of that happening but one can dream!

Another missed opportunity. Soooooo many old film classics to keep this place busy, both Arabic and Hollywood productions

Hi Mark,
Reminiscing the old cinema brings back good memories. Would you know the music they played before and after the movie? I’m trying to figure that out, but not getting the tune. If there’s a link please do share.

thanks
Deepak

I was going to say the same thing about playing old films.
How cool it would be if Hitchcock’s films or even films from as recent as the late 90’s played 🙂
