Bachelors in Salmiya Block 12 Forced to Leave

block12

Responding to complaints filed by citizens living in block 12 in Salmiya concerning being surrounded by ‘bachelors,’ the municipality recently launched a campaign in the area, giving bachelors three-day eviction ultimatums before disconnecting electricity as instructed by municipality director Ahmad Al-Manfouhi.

Head of the inspection team Ritadh Al-Rabee’ said that the team distributed 20 warning notices to house inhabited by bachelors and said that electricity would be disconnected and owners would be fined. He added that once the ultimatum is over, the municipality teams would be escorted by a police force to evict residents. “The law will be equally applied to everyone without any wasta,” he stressed, noting that if any officials intervene, their names and positions would be reported to the municipality director. This doesn’t make any sense at all plus is really unfair and then to top it off they’re giving them just 3 days to move out? WTF?

Its bachelors so it must mean they party or bring girls over illegally to these houses. The government is right to take notice of this and I think someone must have complained. The swift action is awesome. The buildings have families near the Millennium Hotel and a training institute for kids so securing the area is a good idea.

if one person has a party you evict that person out, you don’t evict all the bachelors in the whole block. we have tons of bachelors in my area of salmiya and they’ve never been an issue.

No u are wrong, the government has no right. If an individual violates the Kuwait law-code of conduct then the building or police have the right to take actions accordingly to evict or press charges. But having mass decision of eviction against people with certain marital status is discrimination and barbarian frankly!

Always fearing “the other” for the sake of “the kids” is what is ruining this country

They should go find a lawyer and sue the municipality, yes as I said take them to court and set a precedent. This is illegal on all standards and the decision can be overruled. It’s becoming a racist jungle, if the laws here and urban planning is flawed, having people violated in such a demeaning way is not the way to go around it.

Don’t think this happens in other Arab countries, at least not arbitrary like Kuwait. If anything they create zones and create clear laws to protect the individual impartially not to be manipulated and deprived from his rights

FYI in certain states of the US if you break a term of the lease you have 3 days to be evicted. If this lease had the term “No Bachelors” in Kuwait then yes, it would happen the exact same way. 3 days to leave, it would be stapled to your door.

The problem in Kuwait (And TBH I am totally guilty of this) is laws are so rarely enforced we are angered when they suddenly decide to enforce them

I live in Block 12 and my building has started renting out to bachelors who partition the 2 bedroom house in such a way that 6 families live in a flat. It’s either 6 families or bachelors in each partition. The worst thing about them is that they are loud, spit tobacco and majority of them are taxi drivers and they all park their cars in the building due to which there has been a parking issue too. 2 years ago, my building housed families and it was a good atmosphere but due to increasing rent, a family can’t afford to pay that by themselves so I renting to bachelors made more sense since they split the rent. I don’t even know my neighbours and people keep changing every month.

You would ask, why haven’t I moved out? Find me a house that is the same size that I live in for the rent I pay right now, and I’d move out in a heart beat. I request the cops to visit every building and ask the haris if they rent out to bachelors and take necessary action accordingly.

what you say sickens me.
the violation here is on the landlord because he allowed such situation, or rather he wants it for his benefit (greed).
you receive a complain, take action on the individual, being a bachelor of family, treatment should be equal. loud parties are not limited to bachelors.
WTF indeed

Uh the violation is for both. You can be evicted for “unauthorized roommmates” pretty much worldwide…

First of all i think its fair and the the best decision the government made so far, i think singles should leave to farther areas from families, they stink and they hang there clothers off the balcony, also they might do bad stuff, i think the idea is great and i hope and pray all the other areas too. mark too bad u got no choice in this looool

I’m single and don’t stink and I don’t hang my clothes off my balcony. You’re generalizing. Secondly if you don’t want clothes hanging off balconies you create a law to forbid that you don’t move all the bachelors into the middle of nowhere.

hmm.. that beckons, if there aren’t families living near the oil fields the bachelors could be moved there. Well thats the only place where families are not staying.

I think Howard (doubt u are a howard) that the only best decision this government made is not have clear and correct laws on racism and stupidity. Otherwise you will be locked up on 2 accounts. Not to mention ur sickening humor. Karma is a bitch my friend, u feel superior now, but one day u will be living next to someone more fortunate that will think u stink, loud and a lesser person in quality.

My building simply didn’t build balconies even though there clearly was space so that they could avoid the hanging clothes out thing. It really does destroy the look of the building.

I’m not sure…but I think that block is designated for families or couples so renting out the apartments to bachelors is illegal, which is what brought on these evictions. This makes sense, otherwise it would be unjustified.

It’s not illegal, no law governs such parameters in Kuwait. It’s the discretion for any building owner to accept or not a tenant. I.e signs u see in Salwa saying ‘expats only’ this is not illegal, maybe a loophole.

Bachelors in GCC countries (including UAE) are not allowed to live in family residential areas (especially villa neighborhoods) because they’re typically low income migrant workers from South Asia and the citizens don’t want this type of people living in their neighborhoods.

Yes, the no-bachelor rule is the norm in ever GCC country

https://thenational.ae/news/uae-news/dubai-municipality-warns-bachelors-to-stay-out-of-residential-areas

“Bachelor” in this context is referring to migrant workers. It’s racism and classism at its finest.

Those houses are being rented illegally anyways so they should force them to leave as they have destroyed the block. A 3 day notice is obviously not enough (should be 3 months not 3 days) and the people who take such decisions are idiots.

Sorry , but most of the decisions taken these days are really low grade. Every day you open the newspaper and you read new laws suggested by one guy to get rid of that , the next day another one?
Are these people practicing a play or a drama? they are playing with the balance and name of this country. And the best part is that all are pointing to the expat community. They dont see facts , use scientific approach or observe . They just deport , cut and increase. They should perhaps learn a lot from growing countries.
Expats arent the issue of this country to be clear, the issue is using natural resources to fill certain pockets and enjoying a care free life due to oil. Have they ever thought what would happen in that day? the ones who already have made enough will leave this country and settle in their mansions and palaces in Europe. The expats , the new fake kuwaitis , the poor class kuwaits will suffer. Change your attitude my dear second home, think about your future and not just the breakfast you are having today at dean and deluca.

Aaa, i think she might have just coined a new word! i think we could start a wikipedia page about this term! lollll

I’m sure it is a well planned decision behind which there were loads of feasibility studies done. /s

WTF indeed! Declare it bachelors area and ask the families living there to vacate in three days and see the drama.

Millennium included, no bachelors allowed. Wonderful timing, people just had a 3 days off.

Tomorrow after they create Bachelors ONLY area, u will find the press, MPs ranting about how these areas are becoming red zones, drugs, deviants and and and and. The problem in Kuwait is they don’t solve a problem, they patch and patch and patch and patch………and then blame it on expats!

Every new law I hear is about how to screw expats even more. I never hear any positive news. Its always how expats are ruining the country.

Expats or Locals, what good news u hear here anyways! Economy? Entertainment? Development? Technology? Anything? Everything is in deep sleep mode and honestly it’s cosmic powers keeping it intact!

This is stupid; to evict the entire block just because some families complain. I don’t even think designating family zones and bachelor zones is even legal, they are discriminating based on marital status (or gender in some cases). This type of discrimination is not allowed according to the constitution.

You got it wrong bro. Its not about being a bachelor. Its the way those houses being rented are split. 20 different families/bachelors are living in a space made for one family. CHAOS !!

If we can’t yet have proper laws to make public spaces safe for women, I’ll take what we can get for now. Fully aware of course that “bachelors” aren’t the (only) problem. Still, will breathe better now when I get back home to block 12 and walk its streets. At least a month’s notice should have been given however.

I’m pretty sure this only applies to Kuwaiti bachelors, no? Otherwise, this is completely stupid.

The “bachelors”, in this context, are migrant workers (eg. construction workers, cleaners, drivers).

Bachelors you criminal scum! Don’t you know its illegal to have the most basic physiological needs while bachelor?

Welcome to the GCC, where bachelors aren’t allowed to live in residential areas. Head over to UAE and Qatar and see it with your own eyes.

@ aaa & @ bask.
I thought you guys were living in kuwait. The fake ones are the ones you find now everywhere, in the airport, in the wazzaara, the ones that are spoiling the name of this country. They probably came to the kuwait border and tore of their original x or y country passport. They come and live here and do business and claim they are here since ages and not given nationality, they join tribes for vote banks and they eventually get nationality. Heard of many like this.

1. “Responding to complaints filed by citizens living in block 12”

Which part of Block 12 do they live? Isn’t what the municipality doing illegal? There is nothing mentioned in the Rents Law about sharing accomodation, so that it’s ambiguous.

2. Issue of “new fake Kuwaiti” has been going on for some time now in the news

3. “The law will be equally applied to everyone without any wasta”
Which / what law?
Aren’t there bachelors in citizen’s houses also? Will this “law” be applicable to them also?

4. “if any officials intervene, their names and positions would be reported to the municipality director”
And then what? Municipality is the most corrupt govt office here.

I thought apartheid died and ended in South Africa. Now not only is it being reborn in Kuwait but it is alive and well . Today its bachelors and the expats are the root of all evil. what’s next ?? Special sections for white skinned expats and separate entrances for dark skinned expats?? or will it be be signs on the doors of businesses.. “Expats and dogs to use the service entrance” I am glad my grand parents and my parents have passed on, at least they are not around to see a revival of prejudice and hate on the scales that they went through growing up as children in a world ruled by the elite white man and know in Kuwait the elite locals who call themselves citizens.

Well, segregation based on nationality and skin color are already in place in certain areas. This is based on two experiences of acquaintances of mine.
a) a Kuwaiti colleague was getting married and wanted to move into a bigger apartment in Salwa. He was refused to rent in one of the places as agent said that they don’t rent to Kuwaitis.
b) A western person of South Asian origin answered an ad for an apartment in Fintas but the agent was expecting a white skinned man and refused our dark skinned guy since the ad was ‘for only US, UK and Australian citizens.

😀

who cares i say gather them and put then concentration camps and mark them like the Nazis did LOOOOL. just kidding. let them evict rent will go down? so it’s a win win situation for expats

Has anyone asked the obvious question?

Where the hell will all the bachlors go?…They would be rounded up in places where human dignity and self respect dont exist or get deported?

No one has made provisions of allotting specific accomodation to bachelors. Whats the other side of the equation?

Where does that leave spinsters like us, living in Block # 12?? And what is the gazetted position on bachelors in civil partnerships, living together?? LMAO.

i think the idea behind the eviction of expat/bachelors from Kuwaiti residential area(villas) is in light of the upcoming implementation hike is charges of electricity, water etc..
Expats and Citizens are going to be billed separately for all these and govt is trying to avoid expats taking advantage of subsidy granted for citizens.
Also,i heard Kuwaiti law does not allow partitioning of villas/apartment for rent. Municipality have been advising public to refrain from doing this, i think from last year and it has already been enforced is several other areas already.
