gaskuwait

Kuwait is to increase the prices of gasoline by as much as 73 percent from September, showing how the oil price slump is affecting the energy-rich Gulf state’s finances.

Kuwait’s cabinet said on Monday that the price for the ultra gasoline grade would rise to 165 fils a litre, from 95 currently, the super grade to 105 from 65 and premium grade to 85 from 60, state news agency KUNA reported. [Source]

Ouch, thats a pretty steep hike.

Would u like me to book you a flight to saudi? cause they have cheap fuel. this is the first time i say this (and i hope the last) but if u don’t like it then pack ur bags and get out, don’t forget to send a postcard. :3

If you cant take a criticism or a different opinion then you are probably just another mentally ill, arrogant and unsociable person.

If your willing to insult someone else’s homeland and expect him not to be offended then your probably ignorant, u greatful and self centred.

Don’t worry Suleiman. The only reason people are here is because of money. Not all but the majority of locals are too lazy to work they just sit back and collect money. Once that’s done everybody will leave. People here are so rude to expats. It’s making me think that in my home country whenever I see a Kuwaiti I will treat them very badly because they are mostly self centered people like yourself.
‘Pack your bags and leave’ Haha that’s really funny considering most locals travel out to enjoy vacations and buy lavish houses and properties because they themselves do not believe their country is worth investing in.
All this money and what have you done with the country? Nothing. It’s even worse than it was 15 years ago. Start to respect the expats helping build your country because if you don’t as soon as your oil runs out no body will even look at this place let alone help. Get over yourself.

Here’s the thing I’m fine with expats infact i really appreciate them working harder than most Kuwaitis, what I don’t take is someone insulting where I’m from. I’m sure u love it when people talk shit about where you from don’t u? Also you find it so easy to insult where I’m from and yet you have the audacity to talk about how rude Kuwaitis’ are, that’s so rich mate. Another thing, if your willing to give your happiness and throw away your life in exchange for money you seriously need to rethink your life, you spelt my name wrong btw. I’m not trying to be rude, I’m just honest and if u can’t take that then you seriously need to get over yourself (even more than I do).

“if u don’t like it then pack ur bags and get out”
that’s the best you can come up with Sulaiman? i feel sorry for you. this new trend here is sickening. i’m an expat but, born, raised, educated, worked in Kuwait and always saw Kuwait as my home. i have the right to rightly criticize the country where i live.
previous generation had some respect for expats but this new trend from last 6-8 years is making me to leave this country whom i considered my home.

one day when most of us will leave then you’ll realize it.

You feel sorry for me being offended? If you really consider this place home you’d be offended too. This isn’t a trend niether is it here, it’s everywhere why stay in a place you don’t want to be? You think people here need any more criticism? We are already a depressed state, if you really thought this place was your home u would have realised that.

Okay, so yes you will have to pay more for gas. Even with the price increase, the only GCC country with cheaper gas is Saudi Arabia. The government should not be subsidizing Gas, Water, and Electricity as much as they are in my opinion. People in Kuwait have become accustomed to wasting all of the 3 resources mostly because it is so damn cheap. Example, when people want to wash their cars, they carelessly turn on the water hose and flood the streets with water. Example for electricity, lights are left on all morning and night. Example for gas, look at the crowded streets filled with youth who just drive around day and night “gizzing” because they have nothing better to do.
Yes it sucks that we are going to have to pay more, and yes other products will probably increase in pricing, but for those who understand economics, producers will never raise prices above consumer abilities, which means in the end its in our hands and no one else’s.

Well if we do waste gas, water and electricity in this country, don’t you think it’s better that we do raise prices? People are making such a big deal out of this. We are the last GCC country to raise prices, that is due to us being a democratic state. Obviously we’re not happy about having to pay more for an almost daily expense but it doesn’t mean it’s not the right thing to do.

The laws of economics says when you raise oil prices, everything equivalently will rise. It goes by the term inflation. Kuwait mismanaged it’s resources and should have allocated it’s surpluses in the past towards producing another source of income. The oil resource isn’t forever and will be replaced by renewable sooner rather than later. I’m still surprised why doesn’t have multiple solar farms or even wind energy (Kuwait gets alot of wind from Iraq in a southeastern direction, it’s why pollution from oil production heads to Saudi, gulf, and Iran), or even tidal energy. Kuwait has to make some right choices in the next few months or maybe just tax the people 2 or 3% of their income or sales. Maybe a luxury tax? Even then, Kuwaits budget will always be misplaced and not managed well.

Life will go in this bubble kuwait is in at the moment for the short term and they always hope and pray oil prices goes back $100. Hope understand my point and not trying to criticize and insult. This is what happened and based on news and experience.

While I agree with your logic, I would like to draw attention to the impact of social security.

Going by your example, a local citizen who receives social security will continue to waste water, gas and electricity as it would be covered by social security which is in turn fueled by the price hike. It is the low and middle income earners who are going to be hit and hit and hit badly.

Discrimination mentality?? LOL are you blind to see the existing problematic ratial discrimination going around in Kuwait??? someone is just acknowledging the elephant in the room, if there isn’t any discrimination happening in Kuwait then every human being on Kuwaiti soils should be treated equally right?

So you think they’re going to start checking your ID at gas stations and start charging different prices based on that? Does that make any sense to you?

Then again there’s a lot that this country does that doesn’t make sense.

It’s really not that big of a deal to be honest. Hopefully this will promote more carpooling and reduce the amount of traffic.

Carpooling ????

You will caught and deported if you are an Expat… as the officers will charge you with ILLEGAL TAXI

Well not really. It depends where you are from. Doubt any westerners will be charged for being an illegal taxi.

I am sure,if there was a better option they would have gone for that.I hope the next thing that is charged in this country is plastic bags. I have never seen such indiscriminate use of plastic bags
anywhere else.

It’s about time. Hopefully the increased prices will make people more responsible and appreciate more this precious and limited commodity.

And since this is a removal of subsidies, these are big savings for the government as well. Why should it pay for your fuel anyways? WHY?

It shouldn’t.

But it choose to a long time ago and based on this, a cost of living was determined by which people were paid their income.

While I understand that people such as yourself welcome such a move, it would be cruel to ignore the impact on people who earn much lower than you.

It maybe me inelastic but it’s not perfectly inelastic so there will be a decrease in demand as inferior goods become a better alternative.

Good decision. But who is this gonna affect ? thats the question.
People who spend 120KD for a breakfast meal or those trying to survive a day with a falafel. Now if the oil hits more low then more price hikes are expected. till where will this go.
The country needs to divert there source of income from Oil. Just because Oil is given default under the soil does not mean you keep surviving on that. Open toursim, break the chains unnecessary ideologies. Grow with the world and not just live on what is beneath.

Honestly, the people who will probably affected the most will be the citizens due to the fact that that they are the one who have many personal vehicles. Expats tend to only have one vehicle per family and most Expats have no vehicles. Also, consumer goods should not be affected by this small price hike as most goods are transported using vehicles thats consume Diesel. So in order for consumer goods prices to increase is it Diesel and Kerosene that has to increase. In the end petrol prices in Kuwait will be amongst the cheapest across the globe.

Can you please tell me where is this KD 120 breakfast place you speak off? Breakfast is my fav meal of the day and I really want to try something new

How much will they now charge for cab rides??!

Prices are already too damn high as it is. And salaries of course will remain the same.

This is just all too much to take in.

It’s due to the bad economic crisis of oil.
The oil barrels right now are cheap and bad

Evidence. https://www.oil-price.net

Saudi Arabia wants to make it 80 dollars but it’s impossible
Now the oil crisis will hit hard.

I just wish Kuwait upgraded their country quickly,
I wish they made something to protect the younger future
Generations.

Kuwait now is small and still has land but not fully developed and constructed.

This is bad, this is really bad. This is not a joke at all.

The economic crisis and oil crisis will hit hard.

the hike in electricity is more important since the country is going through massive waste , and also does not have the capacity for production.
there is not even a desire for people to buy energy efficient products, which is a bad sign.

I’ll believe it when I see it in the Arabic papers

But if it’s true, that’s a shame. Kuwaiti residential places should get the increase too

I think the solar plane that flew around the globe somewhere last week and landed in Dubai is the one to be blamed cos it was a reminder to oil rich countries that solar energy will take over soon. I think the increment is good cos solar tech will make gas irrelevant in the decades to come.

Guy and girls…

Gas prices are still cheap. If you can afford to buy a jogging bottom fir kd 40 or a tshirt for kd 30 at avenues…or u can eat breakfast for kd50…im sure you all can managed this petrol hike. Kuwait is a rich country and Kuwaiti shouldn’t have such a problem.

I actually was hopping for hike around fils.200/liter…..95 files is still cheaper than Shani….lol
