Kuwait Airways jet suffers technical issues with landing gear

kwflight

Reports are coming in that a Kuwait Airways flight coming from Doha ran into problems with the landing gear and had to perform an emergency landing. Due to technical issues the pilot wasn’t able to tell if the left landing gear had opened or not and so had to spend an hour circling over Kuwait trying to sort the issue out.

The pilot was forced to fly at low altitude around the airport so personnel on the ground could give him a visual confirmation on if the landing gear had opened or not. The plane finally ended up landing safely without any incident.

I’ll provide a link to an official news source once I find one.

Despite all those ACCIDENTS, FACT remains, NEVER had a CRASH ever since it OPERATED back in the 1950’s, so their claim of “World’s safest airline” back in 2010 is VALID.

Yeah thank god, its amazing how clean is their record.

And by the way it was just a faulty sensor issue, tires were in fully deployed.

Well, It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the planes are being sabotaged so they can tarnish the already fragile reputation of the Airlines so when they finally start to sell it, the “buyer” buys it for pennies and dimes.

It’s scary how often you post about Kuwait Airways incidents. I counted at least ten over the past few years!

Let’s hope we get a new fleet/airline to coincide with the future airport terminal.

The pilot cant confirm whether the landing gear is down is an old problem that shouldnt exist in todays airplanes. How about the aircraft makers Boeing ,Airbus and others put small camera and a light (like mobile phone type) in the landing gear stowage compartment ,that shows the status of the landing gear (up , down ,stored …etc ) .

It is useless , wasteful and dangerous to circle around for hours for someone on the ground to see if the landing gear is down or not.

Same thing can be done for the battery compartment (Dreamliner 787 problem) or other critical areas to monitor them at any time .

I’m quite sure that is present in the newer models. Its just that most of the current fleet is over 25 years old.

LoLguy ; I hope so ,the 787( Dreamliner ) is the newest aircraft

Maybe they should retrofit existing palnes with a camera system .Any pilots / Flight engineers in the house ?

Lolguy ;

sorry i was refering to the battery problem on 787,Sure Kuwait airways dont have any 787 Drealiner Jet .
BTW i think planespotters Kuwaitairways fleet list is incorrect ,becuase kuwaitairways did not fly DC8’s and did not have any DC 10 jet , they flew Boeing 707’s in the past , Kuwait airforce had DC9 for transport

The pilot was forced to fly at low altitude around the airport so personal on the ground…maybe you’d wanna correct personal to personnel! 🙂

Last week I was on a Kuwaiti airline flight to Cairo, and the server’s trolley ran out of lunch trays when they reached me. He told me he’d get me a meal from one of his colleagues, and then he vanished. I reminded him a couple of times, but no joy. He finally came around to collect the used trays, and when I asked him again, he said “oh, I forgot, it’s too late now”. No, this is not where it ends!
I asked the gentleman for his name, since I would like to report the incident to the airline’s customer experience team. The answer startled me. He said, and I quote, “My name is and I am a Kuwaiti, working for Kuwaiti arilines, show me what you Egyptian can do”. I reported the incident to the flight Purser, who was a true gentleman and did all the right things, but still, if this attitude is tolerated in the airline, something very serious is bound to happen sooner or later. I’m never flying Kuwaiti Airlines ever again.

This may be a new event here, but this is common in busier airports where the pilot requests visual confirmation of the gear when the cockpit indications are red.

Sometimes if there a hydraulic failure for the landing gear, they can manually drop it and then also ask for confirmation from the ground that the gear is down.

I think had this been in the daytime it would not have been an issue but as it happened at night they may need a few passes to get good confirmation of the state of the gear.

All in all, in the grand scheme of all the things that can go wrong, this is a minor issue.
