Kuwait assists Morocco on high-speed train

The Kuwait Fund for Arab and Economic Development (KFAED) loaned Morocco 712 million dirhams ($89.2 million) as part of the first phase of its participation in funding the project of the High Speed Train (HST) linking Tangier to Casablanca.

I just read about this awhile ago and it kinda upset me. Where is our high-speed train? [Link]

That was before all the fighting & beating at the National Assembly… Can’t you see that they have their hand tied up MAN!!!!!

You don’t understand the building is in progress but it’s fully underground you wont know till the station is opened 😉

Exactly Mark! That’s the thing with Kuwait. The Kuwaiti government sponsors 100 countries & build their cities & link power to them. Also, it constructs hospitals, universities, power plants, trains, etc. Yet, none for Kuwait. Funny, huh?

Why does it upset you guys? Its an investment for Kuwait, the money “loaned” to Morocco is paid back to Kuwait plus interest. Its not like the money is given away for free.

Ya, but you can’t consider the government as one entity, the people making the investment decisions are not in charge of the local development.

I think you are looking at the irony of it all, just like why does a country with net energy export surpluses have blackouts in the summer.

That’s the problem with the government, a generous charity that don’t hesitate to sends money everywhere except when it comes to investing in our own country.

I love how people here complain about how the Kuwaiti government spends money assisting poorer countries and doesn’t spend money on the country itself, but are strangely quiet about the need for infrastructure when the government gives us each 1000 KD.

And no, Kuwait doesn’t need a high-speed train, just because Morocco has one too. Morocco is about 25 times the size of Kuwait, with about 10% the per capita GDP. They would need a train, but can’t afford it.

…and who told you Morocco is a poor country?

A corrupt government doesn’t make it a poor country.

I’d rather they invested that money in make a railway system with the GCC…now that would increase economy within the Gulf with Gulf money..so the money would stay within the Gulf itself.

That upset you?

Dude.. we’re building power plants, water desalination plants, schools, hospitals, Universities, homes, roads, bridges, factories, farms, heck even military bases all around the word…
and in one of the world wealthiest countries i’m here with a broken tooth for over three years and not a decent government dentist to fix it.

Lending money is very easy, anyone who has it can do it. All you need to do is study the project and write a check

Planning and implementing a railway system, however….. you can see where I’m going here

So yeah, funding is much easier than actually doing

Im actually working on tender documents of the kuwait metro these past few weeks. the same company that designed the Madrid metro is designing the kuwait metro and the options and lines considered are actually well thought off, although it does take almost 2 hours to get from jahra to fahaiheel lol

Yokohama to Tokyo in 40 minutes, and the distance from Jahra to Fahaiheel is nothing compared to the distance from Yokohama to Tokyo.

It takes an hour from Heathrow Airport to King Cross by metro. But still, 2 hours to Fahaheel? That’s too much 🙁

Lol yeh i think its becuz it involves switching lines or something. Altho i think one of the options takes down travel time to like 80 minutes or so lol

Actually dude its one of the best in europe! Ive been using it for the past 5 months so far, so easy to use man, colors and directions. Anyway, the kuwait metro project has just started, like we are literally just creating documents at the strt of the project. Its just facing soo many delays becuz of the Kuwait metro rapid transit consortium, like everythig else bel deera, its slow, bas it will happen. And that pic u have of the metro lines is one of three options proposed, im guessing this is the one that was chosen probably, everyone at work is on vacation so im a few days behind on that info lol

metros are no good in Kuwait,

US did it with an intention, the Grid design of Kuwait’s roads, eliminates any hope of metro systems.

so we buy more Yankee cars and spend more fuel.

just a point of view

Uh what
Grids are more efficient and easier to get around, not everything is a conspiracy.

Most cars in Kuwait aren’t even American and spend what fuel, our own?

Apprently People are pissed that the Kuwait Fund has given this loan to Morocco to build a high speed train. You guys DO know that that’s why the Fund was created in the first place right? Check their website they offer millions of KD in loans to alot of countries. The Kuwait Fund also happens to spend nearly 2 million KD TWICE a year to train engineers and send them abroad for 6 months. Everyone chill and stop complaining that our money is going to help foreign countries, this is the way it must be, we sometimes help others
