Malls need more security

Teenager dies in Salmiya mall gang fight
A 19-year-old Iranian died of chest wounds and two other youths, including an Egyptian expatriate were severely injured in a bloody fight among some 80 individuals at a famous shopping complex in Salmiya area.

The youths are said to have used batons, knives and other sharp objects to attack each other and the injured people were left behind, bleeding profusely, while other members of the feuding party managed to escape at the sight of police. Even so, about 20 of them were taken into custody when paramedics referred the three injured people to the Mubarak Hospital for medical care. Later on, the Iranian died of internal bleeding. A case has since been registered for investigation.

Meanwhile, another group of youths engaged in a quarrel at the same commercial complex over a girl, resulting in severe injuries to a citizen of Kazakhstan and a Jordanian. The injured people were taken to the Mubarak Hospital by paramedics arriving at the scene with security operatives. A case was registered.

In yet another incident, two Kuwaiti juveniles suffered injuries in different places of their bodies, as they fought with six other juveniles at a public garden in Rumaithiya. Paramedics sent the injured citizens to the Mubarak Hospital, while securitymen referred the other juveniles to Juvenile Prosecution for investigation. [Source]

Rowdy youths harass, strip 3 girls naked in Hawalli mall
The Nugra police have arrested two youths, both believed to be criminals, for eve-teasing and tearing the clothes of three Arab girls because they did not give in to their mischief, at a shopping mall, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.

According to eyewitness reports the youths were constantly harassing the victims and the latter criticized them in front of the people. The youths got annoyed and allegedly tore off the clothes of the girls, following which they screamed for help when they were left with only undergarments on. Someone called the police and the suspects have been taken into custody. [Source]

If these two horrifying incidents aren’t enough to have malls rethink their security then I’m not sure what is.

Get over myself? You’re the one thinking you’re the arbiter of all that’s funny and anyone who disagrees with you MUST be full of themselves!

I know it upsets you to be told that you’re not funny, but unfortunately for you, I don’t care. You aren’t funny. Get used to it.

Do you want X-ray machines and searches like in other countries? These are isolated incidents. A mall is a public place. This could have happened on a street corner. What do we do there?

What are my other options? More deaths and harassment? x-rays and searches in other countries are for a reason. If you they are needed then you place them.

In our case it doesn’t have to be that extreme but you calling a fight at a mall or girls being harassed as isolated incidents is absurd.

What would you call it? Daily, regular, more the norm than the exception? What would you do about the same cases out on a street?

These are social problems not restricted to malls, and yes, isolated cases in my opinion.

I’d say about weekly (srs). It’s by no means an isolated incident, that would be a gigantic understatement. All it takes for a gang fight to erupt is for two teenage thug life phaggots to look at each other the wrong way, that’s literally ALL it takes. I’ve seen a fight break out at a traffic light in this manner. Not to mention fighting over some chick, that’s pretty commonplace too. Let’s face it, a lot of these people are just animals, pure and simple. That’s just the truth.

+1

Isolated?? you go to a mall, look at a guy (preferably an Arab) for 2-3 seconds, the response you will get is “you wanna fight???”

This is so common in Kuwait. specialy among school going teens. for some reason majority of them are like that.

which ever public place you go in Kuwait, you will find guys following girls. these girls didn’t give in.. what about the girls who are forced to?

This is an Issue and a pretty big one. youth acting this way draws a picture of the future. it’s time to take the appropriate measures.. not only through security but by education.

For a fact, i know Kuwaities who were stuck during 91 war. they’ve seen life at worse, hence they cherish it, respects other fellow human, let him/her be from any country, race, color.

but this current generation needs a wake up call. they havent, yet, seen the darker side. it’s all rainbows & butterflies for them.

If that’s how you think, aaa, then I hope your own kids live through a war…
As for the rest of us, may our families all live through peace =)

I was thinking the same thing last week, these guys with dishdasha can’t handle no shit, things should be come more strict and secure, and like every thing els the government does not give a shit too, for for the lot os shitty words but I feed up from all this chaos and foolishness, police should enforce strict rules and apply them and put officers in every singe shopping center and have police officers patrolling neighborhood 24/7.

I saw a police van and a police car parked outside Marina Mall last night at around 11pm-12am and was wondering what happened. This explains a lot.

And I must agree we need more security enforcement not just in malls but everywhere in Kuwait! I feel like if anything happened to me the police wont do shit about it, its crazy. I have heard of many incidents in which girls were involved in harassment and upon calling the police they were surprised to find the police officer going like “What are we supposed to do ? we can’t do anything about it…” its pathetic.

In the Emirates if anyone ever insulted you or cussed you out in the street, you have the right to call the police and that person will face penalty. Let alone someone harass you or touch you.

These kids need control , its not a mentality issue.. Its an issue of enforcing the Law.

I know what you mean and all but I find one wrong point with what u said ,, you can’t just say guys in dishdashas that’s just racist and stereotypical.. I knowu. Mean 3gad but still , I’m not one and I wear dishdasha does tht mean I’m the guys tht follow girls in malls and doesn’t respect anyone ? No! Dude ur right ur 100% right ,but saying ppl tht wear dishdasha . That just brings a lot of innocent minority into the whole story

This is appalling, disturbing and outright pathetic. Female police officers should be deployed across all malls in Kuwait with a few male policeman on standby at every mall so that the women can call them in should a situation require physical intervention.

ALSO–Malls should be held accountable for security and the safety of shoppers.

A man died and two women’s clothes got torn off—PATHETIC!!

Something needs to be done to the mentality of the population (locals and foreigners) rather than spreading security all over.
The problem is the behavior. The provocative harassment. You MIGHT stop this from happening in malls, but what about everywhere else?

I agree with 7ammoud

The harassment is rampant. I agree it’s actually a deeply rooted socio-cultural problem. It is very provocative, and sadly, its too common, guys chasing after girls in their cars (dangerously so), guys making cheap remarks as girls walk by–and nothing is discreet any more its just blatant harassment in many cases.

To the point you have to be careful with any females in the family when your out–

I’d like to hear it from a female though–how do they feel about the level of harassment in kuwait?

It’s pretty bad, in my opinion.
Even at the private school I go to, here’s sexual harassment. Little to no physical harassment, but definitely verbal harassment from some of the guys.

The malls are just awful, though. I mean, when some of us girls talk about going to the mall, we actually label Marina as the “creeper mall”, but now, the harassers are moving to the Avenues. It’s pretty bad.

More security wouldn’t really do anything to be honest, neither would more cops. Security cameras would help if they used the video to capture the images of the perps and then have them arrested the next time they are seen in that mall.

However the majority of these kids have good enough wasta to get them out of trouble and so unless they are punished properly then they will repeat the offenses. A PSA campaign might help raise awareness especially if they encourage witnesses to take pictures with their cameras and send them to the cops. If the cops had an anonymous tip service as well so that people can send in the pictures and feel secure then that might also help.

It definitely would. Dubai had problems with girls being harassed much worse than Kuwait, now anyone who even follows a girl is immediately arrested. If Kuwait did that I can assure you it would get much better.

Iranians use their dishdasha tailoring skills 4 wasta

Jordanians offer private Arabic language tuition 4 wasta

The Kazakhs are the real mafiosos they control Q8s nekhy and bajela trade. If you cross them prepare for major diarrhea.

I think the main issue is actually parenting. These young angry phaggots didn’t just pop out of a vacuum by some feat of quantum physics. They were brought here by parents, most likely lazy ones who never should have given birth to them in the first place. Sure the malls could use some more security, but these kids could use a hell of a lot more parenting.

There is a cure, however. An old fashioned remedy that’s sadly no longer used as frequently as it should be: Belt Therapy. It’s simple. You take a nice leather belt and take a few healing cracks at a misbehaving would-be gang bangin thug and voila! Order restored. That’s how you discipline an angry little thug. Cops might be a deterrent, but they’re not nearly as effective as a righteous parent who’s quick to the gat. Don’t be scared homie.

You know issues like this are why they keep raising the family visa salary requirement but then people complain about racism.

You read my mind πŸ™‚ What ever happened to a good wack be a belt or stick. I mean I used to get wacked daily and look at me now i turned out ok

Damn right, don’t give me none of that “don’t let me call cps on you shit” or “7aram he’s only a child” I was raised kicked in my ass for every little bad thing I did, Im 15 and damn proud I got a beating so I didn’t turn out like these ass holes.

and learn how to use proxies and vpn to use internet porn, they all be zombied out jerkin off instead of fighting at the malls!

How many times have people blogged on this website and mentioned that police should be in malls – many times. I am so tired of this MOI not doing their job in this country. They adjust the visa laws over and over again, they threaten to give more tickets on the freeways and at one point I did see police in The Avenues, but they are gone. The crime rate is VERY high in this nation and in order to come to grips with this phenonmena, there needs to be a working relationship between the MOI and the government. If they want to better train their police officers then they can travel one hour and ten minutes to the UAE where they have the best trained police force in the middle-east. They even busted The Mosad in Dubai, who has ever done that? WE DEMAND POLICE IN ALL MALLS IN KUWAIT!

??? Why would the Govt pay the cops to guard a mall? it’s the job of the property owner to ensure he has taken all the security measures to prevent these incidents.

It should be more like.. the malls have cams fixed everywhere, anything goes wrong, the security should be strong and gutsy enough to take the guys in and put them in a room.

call the cops, show them the footage and let the cops handle it from there on.

A mall is a large enough place with enough people in it to warrant at least a police office having a couple of cops on duty for a quick response in case of incidents.

the security guys(the ones in dishdasha’s) don’t do do crap in the malls anyways… I see them checking out the girls just as much as these stupid guys walking behind following the girls. The security don’t even enforce the no smoking rules in the malls, especially in the airport! they need to do more to the disrepectful kids than shaving their damn heads, as punishment, thats for sure!

-Too many malls.
-Too much testosterone.
-Too many ‘Adam’ teasers let out in their Porsche Cayennes and Range Rovers( yes I am a female but I’ve seen how many of the girls ”try” to get away…..just ignore these boys girls……for God sake, drive on and ignore them but remember people are in cars behind you trying to live…..) ( yes I’ve moved from the mall to the highway here……)
-Too much free time.
-Absent parents.
-Careless parents.
-Low estimation of fellow human beings.
-Lack of anything or anywhere else to go in Kuwait.
-Too much available cash.

all good points except “Lack of anything or anywhere else to go in Kuwait.”
Lived in kuwait all my life and there are LOTS of things to for for guyz, chix though thats a different story if i was a chick living in kuwait i’de be a lesbian.

+1

I have also over the past few moths lost hope and It’s killing me that having been born in Kuwait I love it more than any country in the world (I don’t belong to any country in the World).

This is why I am looking for ways to change the status quo but I can’t do it by myself and I need help πŸ™ As an expat it is difficult to try and change the impossible but it can be done

the problem is most of these kids are raised by their nanny while their mamas are out shopping or whatever … the parents are too busy to actually take the time and raise their kids …. I do agree that we need more security at malls coz these boys are getting way out of hand … and i cant imagine in a few years having my girls harassed by such asswholes …

I disagree the kids raised by nannies have such low self esteem that they lack the confidence to go out and do all this shit, its the kids who were by their machismo “5alek rayal, o enta weld flaan, baye’9 wahy” fathers that are the real trouble makers.

In a real world you call the police if someone is chasing you on the road. But here its like a trend.

and it’s not only about car chase… look at all the other incidents on arabtimes page on the same link. Kids raped… a guy was raped by guys in Khaitan… WT*

We can argue all day about whether it was in the mall or the street or who’s job is it.

Lets face it… There is a problem and someone should do something about it before street killing becomes a daily common news.

Ok seriously something should be done about this. Just this morning i read that a guy and his wife got beat up at a mall …why?? cause he stopped a bunch of kids from saying stuff to his wife ..SERIOUSLY??? a guy gets beat up for protecting his wife ???? The funny this in that they can chase women and throw comments on young girls or even mothers. But if anyone else says anything to their mother or sisters then OH BOY LOOK AT ME I HAVE VALUES AND WONT ACCEPT IT…SERIOUSLY ?????

In the last 2 weeks whenever i went to Marina Mall with my wife we saw massive brawls. And worse, we have seen young girls being trailed by a group of guys. It’s so disgusting.

it would be in the mall’s best interest to get the security aspect sorted out sooner rather than later… ..or else like me, many folks who generate revenue through shopping, spending time at the coffee shops etc on each visit there would no longer feel welcome or safe to make that visit..
i for one would never visit one of these places with my family.. why risk it?
either the mall is happy with the current mix of people it caters to or doesn’t value my patronage.

1)Lol yeah lets give em guns.

2)Unless u havent noticed they make up 75% of the population and they’re backed by tribes, so you tell em to stay where they belong.

3)Yeah if you can get their backward asses to sit on a desk for more than 10 minutes

4)lol ur naive

5)Yeah lets give em guns and teach em how to fight.

I have never seen a uniformed officer walking Marina Mall. I’ve seen them outside, standing next to their cars looking “cool”. If there were a presence inside the mall, trouble makers would be less likely to do bad things.

1) A mandatory military draft is a nice idea if you apply it selectively to troublemakers, but it would really screw over nice respectful young men such as myself. I’m just starting my career. You think I spent a significant chunk of my life getting a high quality education abroad just so I can come back home and waste a year of my life at some camp in the desert playing GI Joe? That would be jacked up cuuuz. Unless you wanna get drafted too.

2) That’s some blatantly racist shit cuuuz. “Where they belong”? Seriously? They belong anywhere you do. Not all bedouins are 3agad bro. There are troublemakers across the demographics, let’s not generalize.

The rest I agree with, especially the self defense part. That’s a great idea.

Show of hands of those that were previously in support of legalizing alcohol who STILL support it….

*I dont see any hands in the air, I may be blind*

This generation is way beyond ‘repair’ for numerous reasons. If anyone wants to fight, I hope they end up killing each other.

Ne and my wife are seriously considering leaving the country due to these dangerous incident. Many people are concerned about these terrible news, currently we stopped shopping from he malls especially avenues and marina until the government state something ensuring the public in real action on the ground

compare these crimes to other around the world? no hope in Kuwait? leave? or do something about this , stop whining and complaining on a blog and do something

I want to know where was the mall security in all this? All I have seen them do is stand around and smoke.

Since a mall is a private establishment, it is not the job of the government to provide security there.

Just like you wouldn’t expect the police to provide security at a zoo, or a private school.

What a disgrace.

Guys I just saw by the back door of Divas a gang a kids who actually were sneaking in divas kitchen and stealing something just for fun and ran away while the chefs saw them and ran after them WTF is going on in this country?! The government should do something everyday those gangs are becoming more and more deganrous to society.. Today a kitchen tomorrow a bank!

We should film all this shit (at least 720p btw), like groups of guys trailing young girls, crazy driving, mall fights and everything else and produce one video to put on YouTube and publicise – perhaps it will lead to international outcry about sexual harrasment/whatnot and force the authorities to do something.

First of all that’s racist
Second of all that’s racist
Third of all that’s still racist

Dude that is not truth ,
Ur saying that without no knowledge what so ever
Do u know how many expats that come here follow every single rule and never break a rule and when mistreated they just put their heads down and walk along … Dude a lot of forigners are here to work and get money to have a life , or atleast have a piece of bread,, not all foringers are ****ed up

Plus the problem isn’t with the expats or anything the problem is withen the citizens ,,

Dude the expat is here not in his own country he should follow every single rule , why doesn’t he? Cuz no one does and if u break it u’ll be as normal as anyone else ,

They see kuwaities ****ing up them selves so they got comfertable ,,
Dude its not them ,, its just that we showed them that there is no law in this country

My father always said , “man ameenah el 38ab as2a el adab ”
Idk how to translate tht but what it means is ,,
Who ever is not affriad of the consquenses will disrespect himself and others or something like that ,,
Or in other words
Who doesn’t fear the consquenses will fuck up the world ,,

Thts not a good translation but yah ,,

Dude its not bout kuwaities or foringers
Dude its not bout hathrii or bdwee
Dude its not bout shee3 or seenii
Dude its not bout black or white

Its bout the fact that u can do anything and no one will judge u , nor talk to u , as if u did nothing wrong ,,

Dude ,, the ppl in control want this mess
The people that are sitting on high ranked places want this ,,

And u guys say where is secruity ? Dude secruity is running away fearing he would lose his life or job , u see what happen’s is no kuwaiti secruity dude
And when the secruity says to someone something that is right either they hit him up till he dies or he gets deported cuz that kid tht was breaking the rules his father is idk who -Al idk who -Al idk who

Dude the police doesn’t give a damn no more cause if the police stoped it , his supervisor will get a call from a na2b . Then the guy tht wanted to enforce the law gets slapped in the face for enforcing the law on the son of idk who ,,,,

Dude this generation is dead ,, and it will just get worst ,,

I wanna ask u one thing ,,
The things I wrote is it right?
Is it right tht girls get stripped in malls?
Is it right a girl can’t step in malls cuz she fears her honor will be lost?
Is that all right??
Is it right that no family wants to go to the malls no more cuz of those fucked up ppl ?

Is it right that u need to wake up in the morning so early to go to the mall and finish fast cuz u fear it will get crowed and girls will get harrsed?

To me and u tht might not be right , but to the non mannered never rised by anyone ,,, its right for them,,,

Idk what to say other than

Ya rab just help the innocent ppl from those fucked up ppl
Help the innocent from those ppl’s harrsments
Help the country to step back on its feet ,,

Holy Shit ! i think i should join some Karate class or something… Mark do you know any Karate/Kung Fu or whatever Classes in Kuwait!

WOW….I don’t believe anyone just said “deport all expats” I’m Kuwaiti and I’m shocked this was said ….read the newspaper buddy ” Kuwait youth stabs Kuwait youth” …. Etc. But as usual let’s point fingers and look the other way and this way we can convince ourself that we are perfect and there is nothing wrong here.

Firstly, increasing the amount of security at malls won’t do much good. The thing is there has to be dedicated men from the society who are willing to take a stand, who know how to deal with these situations!

Second, it is not the law enforcers job to waste time on fights as there are more important things to take care of. Also if they do get involved they have no training in such matters and if they were to resolve it, the kids would get a great can of whoop a**

Finally, this is to the jerks that bring all the names of teenagers and men down, the next time you think about harassing a lady in public think of her as your sister or your mother …. would you really want someone to do the same thing you do to these girls? And if you do speak to the woman and she says no here’s my advice …. walk the f away and carry on with other things in life

As for the throw expats out of Kuwait!! Well this maybe what it could come to as all the good expats will leave due to fear for their families and loved ones and all that will be left are the gangs and trouble makers (Imagine Kuwait with no expats …. hmmm that’s something!!) It might happen who knows anything about anything these days πŸ™

stupid witnesses.. At least have some respect for the girls.. no excuse on that incident, they should have stepped in and helped the three girls..

Exactly. I can’t believe people stood by and waited until things got that bad. A decent person wouldn’t leave it until things escalated.

Yeah right , as if anyone who are blogging here would go and get stabbed in place of those girls ? Come on guys , get real πŸ˜›

They didn’t get stabbed. Most people do not expect to get stabbed at the mall, so I doubt it was concern for their safety that prevented them from speaking up. It was indifference.

The main problem is general lack of respect by ALL, of ALL nationalitilies. Lack of respect for peers, authority, adults etc etc! Yes, perhaps military service would be one option that may help the local youth but that is only addressing one issue! As we know the fights occurred between other nationalities too!

It is sad to admit that a police presence in ALL malls is not apparent enough! In Europe, Police are on patrol inside malls and on foot patrol outside, clearly armed and usually respected by all (although the London riots leaves that point in question) Police in Kuwait need to set a better example, rather than standing around on mobiles, smoking etc, they NEED to assert authority and be VISIBLE! The only place i see police in Kuwait is posing on the side of the 30 in the mornings on their iphones, while an ass drives by in the emergency lane causing havoc. MOI need to pull their socks up, get a grip and actually do their job! Someone said this is an ‘isolated’ incident – what a joke! Fights and harrassment in malls is a daily occurence!

It’s a shame that kids still resort to violence to settle their disputes. I also don’t understand why newspapers just have to label people by their nationalities. I see this all the time. Does anyone else think that this is really unnecessary?

Avoid all malls (like rabid dogs) over weekends and public holidays or when public sightings of beautilicious women are expected (think Haifa Wehbe, Nancy Ajram, Bipasha Basu, Kim Kardashian). I’d carry mace in my handbag at all times if I was a woman in Kuwait and if I was a man I’d probably carry my very own Russian security detail to accompany me; all times morning or evening when out cruising.
As a foot note, I don’t think having expat security guards is really a smart thing to do when their remit is to tame yobbish behaviour in the 12-25 demographic of mall goers.I’d feel a whole lot more comfortable with security guards who looked their part: toned bodies and all in dishdashas and thoub and wearing the latest in telecom gadgetry.

Kids in Kuwait are very ill-mannered! you can get harassed anywhere. I was just a bystander in Mahboula when out of the blue some kid threw a fresh egg on my head!!! I was really very upset and I almost cursed this country. I wanted to call the police but changed my mind, because the policemen here cannot even understand proper English..And please to all the people in Kuwait, please remove the overpass in Bnied Alghar, that bridge is needed in Kuwait City…Pathetic is the word…huh!

The Culture prevailing in Kuwait now allows kids and adults to act in an ill mannered way. Be the best S.o.b. u can, coz the law only applies to the expats.

Unfortunately the take all I want, buy all I can and do as I please attitude is well and truly embedded into our culture. Dads are at diwaniyas or coffee shops and Mums are out shopping or some of them doing the rounds of the ‘coffee shops’ too and meeting other “Dads’- sorry but true. Discipline is either left to older brothers and sisters, maids or no one.Reality TV is an icon. In fact we have become our own Reality TV mini series.
we can only hope that somewhere along the line teachers perhaps may have an impact on the kids?
Oh I don’t know. It’s too late. Good night.

Don’t you dare diss bedouins, Im a proud bedouin born and raised by a proud family and I disgrace all those who do these bad acts man, don’t point it all at us, and I DO NAT SBEAK LIKE DHAS.

Teenagers walking with knifes and sticks with them is just something that no one should sit and do nothing about. I mean that usually throughout the world kids fights happen but here in Kuwait kids directly resort to weapons such as knifes and batons. WE ALL KNOW where these items can be purchased and still the authorities never do anything about it. Instead of putting an Egyptian security guard (no offense to Egyptians but a Kuwaiti youth will never respond to an Egyptian) and pretending to have security have cops spread out through the mall, especially in Marina Mall and The Avenues. When these kids see a police man they will directly stop misbehaving or harassing other women. Malls should have police men not security, and places which sell these “weapons” which are known should be closed. Now that’s a starting point!

How about putting up metal detectors at entry points across malls in Kuwait and a complimentary frisk and pat down service for all lads, by law enforcement over weekends and public holidays?

This is exactly why i carry a wooden log in my car. You hit my car or mess with me, God save you πŸ˜›

But in general I’m a peace loving guy , just keeping myself safe from harms way, call it insurance.

What a joke….

My sister told me how a policeman gave her his number and how furious she became because of this act. I know my sister very well.

If that’s how a police “man” acts, then good luck, because you’ll need to fix the morale values of your own Police Department before anyone else…

And I’m sure this isn’t the very first, second or even third time, so bringing up the bad apples argument won’t work here….

While it is healthy to have a discussion here, after a while we all need to STOP cribbing and complaining and start doing something….

1) People need to get together and put a petition on a blog or site and target a mall (marina for instance) draw the attention of the people in charge there and ask them to enforce strict security and not clowns who do nothing…request them to install metal detectors and confiscate knives and weapons when found.

ofcourse, they wont take you seriously initially which is when you go to step 2.

use the same site or blog to call for a mass boycott on that mall..select a date and request all people who put in the petition not to visit that mall on that day. request people to spread the word and encourage as many people as you can to join the boycott..

if there are regular boycotts as such, it will hit them and retailers and will force them to comply with peoples requests perhaps…

Mark – maybe you could help or use your blog to do something like this?

after reading many of the comments regarding these serious incidents , I have come to the conclusion that a significant number of the followers of this blog are not very well educated , juvenile and lack common sense .This is unfortunate but is what I regard to be an accurate statement . I have harbored this assumption for a few years but now feel its time to speak my mind . This does not reflect on the quality of the information on this blog or the blogger , but just goes to show you that this blog attracts a good deal of people who have no clue as to what is realy going on in the world let alone Kuwait .

very sad for Kuwait .
