She Doesn’t Get It…

The story with the Kuwaiti influencer @sondos_aq doesn’t look like its quieting down anytime soon, but, this will probably be the last time I post about her since I’m pretty much over the whole thing.

In one of her most recent videos (watch it above), instead of apologizing and putting all this behind her, Sondos is now claiming that she is being attacked by the foreign media because she is a Kuwaiti Muslim who wears hijab. She then ends the video by promising to reveal the brands that have cut ties with her so that her followers can boycott them.

Brands don’t seem to be affected by her threat, MAC Cosmetics, Anastasia Beverly Hills and Phyto were three more brands to announce that they will no longer be working with her.

I have no idea who is handling her public relations, but whomever it is they’re doing a terrible job…

Shame! She is just an insult to all hijabis, true muslim women should not behave like that. Everytime I read news about her, I feel so sad because she is wearing hijab but her attitude is so inhuman 😈

So if she wasn’t wearing hijab, it would be OK if she was so inhuman? You’re just as bad as her, putting your own idea of what a woman should do as what a “true” person should do.

Let’s not try to undermine the fact that this is quite offensive to Hijabi women who are decent human beings and care about the fair treatment of other humans, including house-help. Yes, her ideas are twisted and her unapologetic attitude speaks volumes about her values, but when she pulls the “Hijabi”/”Muslim” card, I as a Hijabi Muslim am doubly repulsed that this is the kind of representation…

…we get. So I think you can consider that before assuming that someone like the original commenter thinks only hijabis are decent human beings. I think you got a very wrong impression there.

The hijab is the hijab, it has no distinction on whether you are a good or a bad person. It doesn’t matter how you feel “as a hijabi” when another “hijabi” does something stupid, you need to stop identifying as a hijabi and just identify as a HUMAN BEING.

That’s the point of my statement, this guy jumped to say “she is an insult to hijabis.” No, she is an insult to HUMANITY.

This guy said “true muslim women.” But of course you wouldn’t even pick up on dog whistles like that with your “I’M A HIJABI, OMG SHE IS NOT LIKE ME” mindset.

I was about to write the same reply, Thank you!
I don’t get people whom immediately say stuff “Not a true Muslim”. By that logic, 99% of people in this country are not “Muslim”.
It is a human thing, she is a bad human.

Further, I love how Sondos also said those that do not know me don’t get to call me a bad person. Actually, asking your friends or family about you would be biased. Hence the “How you treat those below you or not in the same position is the type of person you are”

Guys, you are getting too offensive without thinking the comment through. The lady in the video played the unethical card that what is happen8ng to her is because she is a Muslim and wearing hijab and not offering any apology . So normally for any Muslim or lady with hijab the response would be as written above. It like someone would say they hate me because I’m American while he did a shameful act, americans would immediately say this is not American at all. Hope this clears it.

Actually,

The fact that all of her shit is inhuman is an established fact, anyone with an ounce of decency or logic, whichever route you want to take, can see that. Neither the original commenter nor I are debating that. So that was the main issue.

Yes, saying that all hijabis are angels and inherently incapable of doing something wrong (or vice versa) is a naive statement. I wouldn’t back that and anyone who does, well, they’ve got to be living under a rock, poor souls. Which, they have a right to do whatever they want including exploring the warped ideas they find down there. You can try to help them come to terms with reality, but being an insolent jerk is the last thing that will do that for you.

But. Why are you so offended if I or anyone wants to say that “I am a Hijabi and I don’t support what she is saying”? Why?

Like, this is a side issue altogether. I can identify as whatever I want and live however I like. It’s 21st freakin’ century and I have every right to make that choice. Being a Hijabi means something to me and if it doesn’t to you, that’s FINE with me. But why aggressively call me out for it?

I am not offending anyone when I say, there are hijabis who would be offended by this Sondos’ statements because of how she is shamelessly trying to use the “hijabi” label for her benefit instead of growing a spine and admitting that she is in the wrong (why was anyone even expecting that btw), after being offended first by how inhuman she really is.

I understand that you may not agree with me, what I just can’t seem to grasp is why the hatred? Do you think you have such impeccably-logical or high-values approach to life that you’ve got everything figured out and can go after anyone who isn’t on the same level? Wake up special snow-flake. You’re not so special.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

First of all, I was replying to Rayah and you intervened with “Let’s not try to undermine the fact that this is quite offensive to Hijabi women who are decent human beings”

We don’t care if your offended as a hijabi, everyone who is sensible is offended as a human being. Should someone come in and say “as a woman, I am offended!” or “as a Kuwaiti, I am offended!”?

Well, yes, of course you’re, because if if you’re not, you’re a shitty human, not a shitty woman or a shitty Kuwaiti.

So much of your argument is about you, and about pointing the finger at me and saying I’m aggressive. But you’re not addressing what my point was, nor are you trying to.

You can identify as whatever you want, but you’re playing victim rather than discussing a topic. Then you call me a snowflake but you were the one who said how offended you are by her actions as a hijabi, virtue signaling rather than contributing anything worthwhile. And now it’s about my “hatred” not about what I was talking about, because you just “can’t understand it” lol.

Okay. I see you. But here’s the thing in so many words: when I say I am offended as a “hijabi”, it’s the second reaction I have to the whole thing. I tried to make this clear before but anyways, the first reaction is being offended as a “human being”, reason: obvious. I hope you pay attention this time, because the next part is important.

The second reaction, being offended as a “hijabi”, reason: *drum roll* her claiming that she is being attacked because she is a Muslim, hijabi, the whole shebang, rather than admitting the truth of the situation. The way she puts it is like saying “whatever I am doing is completely normal and acceptable if only I weren’t a Muslim hijabi”. Do you see it yet? Coming from a different angle, it’s the closest you can get to saying “the world is shunning me but my shit is pretty normal, and it is pretty normal in the Muslim/hijabi world too”. Sorry to burst your bubble lady, but I think not.

I don’t even know if a lot of people take that view or not, anyone with common sense wouldn’t, but when it comes to believing weird stereotypes about Muslims in general, what do you know. Logic doesn’t exist in that world. So I feel the need to point that out just in case, WITHOUT undermining the need to also point out how wrong the whole thing is in the first place. A lot of others are already addressing that part aren’t they.

I don’t know if she even herself believes the stuff she’s putting out there. Instagram celebrities are not known for always saying what they actually mean, when they can make publicity and money off it, call it kardashian syndrome if you will. But there comes a point when you have to give a shit, point a finger and say “Hey! Not acceptable. Stop being a phony for once”.

I am not even a keyboard crusader when it comes down to it. The world can be shitty at times and a wall of text on the internet isn’t going to change that. But I don’t have much to do these days.

I felt a part of the original comment meant to say whatever I just said, so I tried to make things more clear. I could be wrong about that assumption, you can shoot me.

Yes, I talk a lot about myself. Or from my own point of view, rather. I plead narcissism and I am lowkey ashamed of it. It’s just how my brain forms arguments but I am trying to fix it fingers crossed. Doesn’t make the arguments invalid though.

The person was referring to a certain point. No need to get aggressive. He or she was referring to the fact that the hijab is meant to mean that the person has some ethics and morals that taught by her religion. It’s like religious terrorists that make the image of religion bad. That what the comment was about. Would love for people to just be a little more tolerant. But I guess that’s not necessary when everyone is just behind a screen

No the ghutra makes people’s brains over heat. It’s like a heat insulator stopping heat leaving people’s heads, people can’t cool down.

There’s no such thing as bad publicity. She knows what she’s doing, unfortunately nowadays people are moreso rewarded for negative behaviour no matter how ludicrous or extreme (Look at US politics). She’ll continue to build her “brand”.

In one of her snaps she started attacking you as well and asked her followers to do something about your blog for inciting hatred against the Kuwaiti people

say whaaaaat? I’ve been deleting and filtering so many hateful comments towards her, I even turned off comments on youtube completely because the comments people were leaving her were getting so bad. Now I wish I left them all. oh well..

LOL Mark your always welcome in the best country in the world, USA. I know LA misses ya & always calling for ya. I have to tell you a true story when a pos local threatened to deport me when i was about to beat his A*#

Heyyyyy !! Freedom of speech bro, what happened ?!? Now I know why some of my comments don’t go through loool

Mark, pls dont tell me you are a liberal “librard” no offence its just the term they use.

When u attack trump, you sound like somone who gets thier news from CNN and gets all emotional.

I encourage you to make better research and think clearer in the subject of President Trump.

Most Americans love him as long as they are not leftist tards. And if you have any anti trump ideas let me know lets discus I hope to unbrainwash your poor sould from the CNN fake news.

With all due respect of course Mark, but if you continue to be Anti trump, I will have to name you Mark Makhbool.

Pls dont censor this post.

Are you seriously defending Trump after all his blunders lately. I know Conservatives are horrified and definitely Most of America feels embarrassed he keeps attacking our allies vs the Russian government.

Trump is not an average conservative or Republican. He is way below average. He’s always bragging about his win as if people forget he’s already President. He hates on Regan as if he compares in any meaningful way and can’t stop being petty to fellow Republicans that disagree with him.

America is a democracy not a monarchy so disagreements are supposed to happen and even an average leader finds a respectful way to work out differences within the party on how to government!

Are either of you an American? If not mind then your own beeswax, if you are then we don’t care about your god damn politics.

Yes I op am American,
You ahould care about US politics because Trump just erased IsIS.
Did kuwait experience and daesh issues?
Then you should care what the presedent is doing to daesh as it affects you tiny region.

Sorry Mark for bieng rude earlier.

When need Sacha Baron Cohen to go undercover and interview her and get her to say more ridiculously ignorant stuff

So sad that she is telling people to talk to her intellectually yet she refuses to read about why her point of view is absolutely ludicrous. And girl, don’t resort back to pointing fingers at you being discriminated against for being a hijab-wearing, Muslim Khaleeji woman. You said heartless stuff, plain and simple. You could have been saying the same thing while wearing a jester outfit and people would have still reacted badly.

Treat your house-help/drivers so nicely that they themselves say to you “we’re very happy in your house, with the respect, the working hours, the pay, the mobile, the food, the clothes and everything you do for us”.

Who keeps the passport and what he/she does in her time off automatically becomes secondary.

“Why can’t you just say what’s on your mind?” In civilization there have to be some restraints. If we followed every impulse, we’d be killing one another.—
Miss Manners (Judith Martin)

This is so twisted on so many levels…so these brands just realized her relegion and just saw that she wears a hijab! Or did she just wear hijab and converted?! Plain dumb and ridiculous when you play the race card at this stage…

Sad she couldn’t have said she misspoke and moved on. Muslims or hijab wearing is not the problem, just the elders she learned that evil point of view from!

I remember being young, dumb and ill informed but I had enough common sense to realize if I’m called out on something to stop assest the moment and respond respectful!

This kind of people reflect a bad image about many good kuwaiti citizens.this problem occurs badly with who they call them “instagram leaders” or “influencers” whom they lack for education and social ethics.

Man I know Kuwaiti ‘human rights activists’ (their words not mine) that justify holding their employees passports. Don’t tell me this is about a minority making a majority look bad.

She doesn’t get it….we don’t either.

In a way you cannot not feel sorry for Sondos not after the way in which this whole thing has snowballed into something much bigger and meaner. She is entitled to her views and having an opinion no matter how vile and mediaeval it may seem to most of us. No one save the emotionally bankrupt and psychologically retarded will look to her for critical thinking and reasoned behaviour. That this fuss should start over a spring chicken of a filly whose only supposed strong suits are make-up, cosmetics and some more of it, is saying a lot about how seriously this woman needs to be taken. Yet again, she has proven to the world that beauty is only skin deep.
Let’s say a little prayer for her so that she may see the light. You could hardly blame her for her limited exposure to life: she hasn’t traveled far and wide (Dubai, London, Cairo and Beirut aren’t about the only places worth visiting in the world) much less read a good class of Arabic and world literature or had any substantive and meaningful interaction with “Asian Ajnabees” ever.
I would urge Loyac to send her off to Bhutan, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, India, Philippines and Africa to help her get a proper grounding of a life beyond Shiseido and Charlotte Tilbury. Hopefully, she will in the process also get an education for Life and contemporary living.
