Snitch & Win!

Lt Gen Ghazi Al-Omar, Ministry of Interior’s Undersecretary has released new set of instructions to grant rewards, including cash payments to civilians who help prevent a criminal act or provide valuable information to police.

According to a report published by some Arabic dailies, the cash prize can reach up to KD 500 depending on the nature of crime and assistance provided. Both Kuwaitis and expatriates can benefit from the new regulation, said the source.

They should create an App for that. People submit pictures or tips on criminal activities and the ones with the most likes wins. [Link]

Thanks Tuan

Isn’t breaking the law a criminal activity !?
Or is there some laws you can break !?

Violating Traffic Rules is Breaking the Law.

There are all cases of breaking the law, and the general definition of “crime” is breaking the law.

The difference is the criminalization of an act. This is what makes the punishment differ from parking wrong to killing someone.

trust me i know the son of many police men that are “wa9leen” and they don’t get free treats, they actually get a harsher punishment! and most of the people who get wa96a they get it from tribal connections

So what? Let them get it. They are risking their sons and daughters to offer some law and order to a country where flaunting of law is considered a rite of passage.

I say let them have it.

At first glance this seems like a good idea, but its a slippery slope scenario.

You dont want people watching each other for cash rewards. Thats not how you create a civil society.

Its the polices job to keep an eye out for crime, and its the polices failure alone that has allowed things in Kuwait to get as bad as it is.

Its simple human nature, people don’t follow the rules out of their own kindness and good will. People are selfish and will take advantage to their own benefit. They are first forced to follow the rules by penalties, tickets, fines, jail etc. Then with CONSISTENT ENFORCEMENT the majority of people get into the habit of following the rules. Its called law and order. Kuwait is half way between law and order and the wild west. Not as lawless as Mogadishou (extreme example) and not as structured and clean cut as Stockholm.

All we need is enforcement, we have a police force, we have a legal system, just apply it. Lets start with road traffic and safety and then move on to more serious things.

follow up thought…privatize tickets/fines for parking, many cities do this to free up their police force for more important duties. If one or several private companies were profiting from the tickets they issued, you wouldn’t be able to put a tire in the wrong place without getting ticketed. Abuse would be a problem so make them take a picture of the violation as proof. Enforce zoning and building regulations to provide sufficient legal parking for all buildings and venues.

Start a highway patrol division of the police, their only job is to cruise the highways and ticket/arrest people for the crazy things that you and I (and the police) see everyday on our highways.

Again consistent enforcement is the key.

Agree. Another key point here is that maybe they should hire a company to train the police better. But the country is so full of crime that it is obvious that there is a shortage of police or they are not doing their job. When I go to a major grocery store in this country and my husband is hit on by prostitutes that roam the frozen food aisles 24/7 when I leave him, it is obvious that the criminals feel empowered to break the laws and that the police are weak. I would bet that a large part of the population here is involved in some sort of criminal activity and that is not good for a small country. Note I said, small country, it shouldn’t be that hard to catch the criminals when they are operating so openingly unless they don’t care or aren’t trained. You can’t just go into Jleeb, for example, once and to a raid catching a thousand illegals and not continue the operation? If you caught a thousand, there is more than likely five thousand. There is so many levels to this but this is a start if the corruption is kept out of it.

Full of crime? Bet that a LARGE part of the WHOLE population here is involved in some sort of criminal activity? Not good for a small country? So large parts of a population committing crime is OK for a large country?

Your whole post is ignorant and you make way too many assumptions. For you to have the audacity to say that you think MOST of the whole god damn POPULATION are criminals is horrible.

Your high and mighty approach to analyzing crime in Kuwait is intolerable and I hope that you do not apply your current form of critical reasoning in any other facets of your life.

I’ve had Chinese prostitutes (pretending to be shoppers) ask me if I want their number several times in the Sultan Centre in Al Kout Mall.

And how do you know they were prostitutes? Did they say so? Did they have a sign? Or did u just assume they were prostitutes because they were Chinese? Very racist of you. Furthermore, since when is asking someone if they want your number a crime?

For 500 KD, I’ll put on my vigilante batman cape and take care of business myself. You can even give the cops a day off.

But never forget: “thou street niggaz shall not snitch”; an eternal maxim etched in sacred stone tablets and handed down to denizens of the ghetto by Big D himself.

something i always hated about kuwait is the fact that snitching is alright lol . everyone should just mind there own business we all have problem so why judge others .

It is a double edged sword.

If the accussed as Wasta, rest assured the witness / accusser gets into trouble instead 🙁

BTW, is there a rate list 😉
