A committee in Kuwait’s public works ministry has recommended that all bids to build a new terminal at the country’s international airport be rejected, state news agency KUNA reported on Sunday.
In November, the tender committee for the project said a consortium of Kuwait’s Kharafi National and Turkey’s Limak Holding had submitted the lowest bid for the contract, worth 1.386 billion dinars ($4.78 billion).
But KUNA quoted Kuwait’s minister for electricity, water and public works, Abdulaziz al-Ibrahim, as saying on Sunday that a technical committee in the ministry had recommended all bids be rejected. Ibrahim did not give a reason for the recommendation, but said the committee had studied all aspects of the bidding. [Source]
Sigh…

In my opinion it will not be built soon Due to the oil prices drop which might last for two years on the same low range.
As a result of the above everybody can notice the new governmental rules that aims to reduce the subsidy on the governmental services, this will result in reduced development in Kuwait and this is the goal of the government as i see it.
Read yesterday that there was a proposal from the National Assembly to shift the project under Diwan Amiri, who have recently put up very convincing projects that are actually AHEAD of schedule. (Old Airport Road, Jahra Road, Jamal Abul Nasser, basically all the huge road projects that are currently being built around Shuwaikh to Jahra areas) If I am not mistaken, Jaber Bridge is also under their supervision.
If their recent performances remain this impressive, I have no doubt that the airport will be built. Properly.
I know for a fact that the project re-tendered three-four weeks ago after Khrafi National won the bid.

Alshaya should built an airport instead of avenues phase 5 6 7 8!
Or just integrate the airport into avenues phase 5
Build*
I personally think that an enormous project like this couldn’t have been rejected unless there was a valid enough reason. My guess? It wasn’t planned out right. Money not being allocated in the right places, setting budgets high when they can be set lower with efficient planning. At least I hope!
I think it would be a lot better if a new airport is built from scratch in a new location, like they did in Qatar with Hamad International Airport. The old could be used for cargo or something.
It is from scratch in a new location. Close to the current airport though.
and if I am not mistaken, the old airport will be for regional flights and the new airport for international flights
It’s a disaster !!
Wait… Didn’t they already start building it? Kinda confused
Did not give a reason for the recommendation, but said the committee didn’t get enough iPhone 6s as gifts
Wasn’t Kharafi National Bankrupt?
In theory, yes.
I’ve personally heard several stories regarding this project from sources who are linked with this project, including contractors, engineers, consultants as well as the dewan however can’t really talk about it in public…there is too much politics involved with it…its also linked with the high increase of Diesel prices which are at .170 fils. Hence why so many major projects are slowing down. Speculations say the price will go back down to .110 fils…we can only wait and see.
I think u can say it in public
and diesel price will be 110 fils soon
As of now, efforts are being made to raise funds.

If you are a member of the Kuwait government and you don’t understand that the airport project is the most important project facing your nation, then you should not be in the Kuwait government.
Alot of people are against this new airport. Some guy leaked documents about this project.
The airport bid submitted by the 1.4 billion company is exactly the same airport they built jordan but double its size.
The one in jordan cost 200 mill kd
The one here should theoreticaly cost 400 mill kd but since its kuwait we’ll say 900 mill kd
That 1.4 bill bid is just ridiculous.
+ the government some how refused many bids from other companies and focused on the 3 most expensive bids ….
