You Can Now Buy Permanent Residency in Saudi Arabia

Last month I posted that Saudi Arabia is going to start offering permanent residency to some expats like doctors, engineers, innovators, investors and residents who contribute to the country. But now they’ve expanded the programme even further where you can also buy a permanent residency:

Saudi Arabia has opened applications for a permanent residency programme designed to attract foreign investment to the kingdom, but it will cost a hefty 800,000 riyals ($213,000).

The so-called premium residencies will allow foreigners to buy property and do business without a Saudi sponsor, switch jobs and exit the kingdom easily and sponsor visas for family members, according to the website for registrations. Source

That’s one pretty expensive visa. At first, I thought you needed to invest at least $213,000 for example by buying an apartment, which is reasonable, but turns out it’s actually the fee you need to pay for the residency. At least it’s a start and expats in Saudi have an option.

It’s better than not having the option, but if you can afford to pay 213,000 USD for a permanent residence, i’m sure you have enough resources that you would never need to worry about such a thing.

it’s like letting millionaires skip the line at McDonald’s.

By no means is it a bad thing, though. i’m sure there’s value in it for KSA and anyone who pays for it.

Mark, seriously… where do you find the mental fortitude to be such a troll at 9:30am Haha goodness gracious, dude…

hes got a point, do you have an answer as to why?

i think extremley low taxes for the rich would be an attractive option.

Uh huh… put “human rights + Saudi Arabia” in google and click the “search” button, my guy… might quench some of that genuine curiosity…

in Google input

“immigrants + USA”

“Racism + France”

“human rights + Turkey”

“knife attacks + UK”

I can go on and on and on…… and this is not me defending any country. But you search for the bad you will find the bad, anywhere and everywhere.

are you comparing “knife attacks in the UK” to all of the human rights violations that happen in SA? including slavery?

saying “no one is perfect” is a stupid way to deflect valid criticism.

You nailed it. This is problem with apologists – Comparing institutional bias ( aka Government sponsored bias) and general crime. Both are different. UK has laws to prevent and punish crimes like knife attacks. And what does KSA have? Everyone knows. No religious freedom, no human rights, clear racism against south asians. How many abusers of domestic servants have been convicted? Numbers dont lie!

I can’t recall the last time the governments of the U.S., France, Turkey and the U.K. murdered and dismembered a journalist for, well, being a journalist. And if I lived in KSA and posted a comment like this, who knows what hell would rain down on me.

Inequality, abuse, and oppression of women.

No freedoms of Expression, Association, and Beliefs. The punishment for which is imprisonment or death.

Human trafficking, mistreatment, slavery, racism of migrant workers.

The Saudi Arabian-led intervention in Yemen

The government regularly bailing out and helping Saudi Citizens escape from countries after they commit crime there.

The assassination or imprisonment of journalists and other individuals who oppose or criticize the government

you could witch out saudi for many first world countries for most of the points if not all but parts of point 2

you absolutely cannot. just saying it doesn’t make it true. how can you compare freedom of expression, association and beliefs with the west? how can you compare the rights of a woman anywhere in the west to SA?

stop.

Hmmm good move I guess… same thing as like other small Caribbean countries that offer their nationality if u invest a certain amount in them.

There’s a difference. KSA is only offering PR, not citizenship (it wont ever offer a passport, at least not at THAT price!)

If u think about it. It is kind of like a citizenship. No sponsor needed to do business, Bringing relatives easily. Its a good start for people wanting to live there. I mean rich people lol

no its not the same. You can still be deported. hahaha
also when u enter into KSA there will be a separate like for saudi and gcc citizen and you can take your pr and stand with all the other expats.

Kuwait should do the same thing but for a reasonable price. else safa hashem would say the country got busted because of expats.

Pretty good move for those who can afford it.
people who has businesses can now protect their business without having a Saudi sponsor.

But you never know, even after getting the PR, they might come up with a law saying it’s not valid anymore. you never know in Middle East. lol
