First Impressions: Sennheiser PXC 250

I own too many headphones for some reason and yet I always manage to convince myself I need a new pair. I currently own a B&O A8, Shure E2, Sennheiser PX100, AKG K81 DJ and the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro. These cover just about every type of headphone from in ear’s, to over head, from open air to closed back, and from tiny to large and bulky. Whats missing are a pair of noise canceling headphones. I originally fell in love with the noise canceling Beats but due to the fact they weren’t very portable made them unpractical for my main reason of wanting noise canceling headphones and that’s traveling.

So after a bit of research I decided to buy a pair of Sennheiser PXC250’s. I had read about them ages ago and remembered them again with the release of the newer updated PXC300. But after some googling I realized the 300’s were just a slight improvement over the 250 but were also double the price. So without hesitation I bought the 250’s from Amazon for just $73.

I’ve been listening to them for over an hour now and the headphones don’t have much bass. I was expecting that based on previous reviews I had read but since I will be primarily using them to watch TV shows on my Archos 7, its not a big deal for me but might be to you. The noise canceling seems to be working right. The dryer is on and when I turn the noise canceling on I don’t hear it, when off I do. The proper test will be using it on the plane which I should be soon.

The little device thats in the picture above is the battery holder. The Sennheisers work with or without battery but the noise cancellation only works with batteries. Once I get back from a trip will post another review on these.

These seem like the best value for money for noise-cancellation phones. I am seriously interested in picking up one but will wait for your impression on how well they work on airplanes or very noisy surroundings like Airports etc.

In Kuwait, the only canceling headphones I’ve seen seen are the Koss QZPRO. The are available at Panasonic salmiya, on the top floor. I believe they cost either 11 or 19kd. They had 2 sets left. I might go grab one since the travel season is coming. They also have the in ear Koss’s as well incase anybody is interested.

Does Dawliya still carry the PXC range? Last time I checked, they only had the wireless Sennheiser range.

DG: Bose is an overpriced piece of crap. These 250’s cost like a third or a quarter of the price of the Bose and they offer an equal amount of noise cancellation. Bose is just marketing, its not quality.

Geant in the new 360 mall has a pair of noise cancelling panasonic headphones. So that’s another option if you need something in a pinch.

The iPhone skin works brilliantly by the way.

Have 3 of those, they are amazing. I even sleep easier in flight with them on without connecting it to a source. But be careful you may very easily drain the batteries by not switching it off when ur done with it, i always carry AAA batteries in case. By the way Bose is great but it is rechargeable , so you have to recharge it every time you travel which sucks.

Mark – I just got mine in as well, and I can’t believe your forgot to mention that it comes with a carrying case/travel pouch — which was a nice surprise to me šŸ˜€

I have a couple of Sony Cordless Headphones. Can anyone guide me as to where i can get the headphone sponge covers in Kuwait. Without them I can never use as they are very harsh on my ears.

I have recently bought the Bose QC3. They are AMAZING!! They cancel the noise perfectly. Btw, you don’t have to recharge it every time you travel. The battery lasts a long time.
