For the past week I haven’t been in the mood to post at all. I’m on vacation and like everyone else who goes on vacation, I want to leave my work behind. But with the blog, its not that simple.
With your normal job you tend to handover your work to another employee and then take off, with the blog I don’t have anyone to hand over the posting to. I also can’t just stop posting, I mean I can if its a short trip but I’m out now for nearly three weeks so I can’t just not post for that long.
Putting that aside I also struggle to find stuff to write about when I’m not in Kuwait. When I first started blogging I used to post about my trip, places I’m checking out, things I recommend other people do and if you’re lucky, you’d catch one of my drunken rants before deleting it. But overtime I just kept getting more and more private. I don’t post about my trips anymore and I barely instagram anything as well. I’ve been to the States 4 times over the past 3 years but nobody except my closest friends knew about them. I did Kentucky, Tennessee, Washington, and Philadelphia on one trip and barely posted two abstract pictures on instagram from my whole stay. I like it that way, I like my privacy.
But I think I’m going to go back to how things were before. I think I’m going to start posting about my trips again since it will give me stuff to write about which in return will reduce my stress when I’m on vacation. I do have a bunch of cool things coming up on my trip so we’ll see how things turn out.

That’s rather a better than nothing, Mark. Waiting for whatever you’re planning to post here man. All the best.
If I mail you a whole blog post with formatted text (no spelling mistakes like you though lol) about something interesting in Kuwait, will you post it? You can credit me at the bottom if you’d like or not, your rules. I think it would be like that time you used to have guest writers on your blog.
Hmmmm yeah that might be interesting, what do you want to post about?
I could make a post on ordering supplements off iHerb which is cheaper than most local retailers. The cost, the time (I have ordered stuff on Monday and it’s delivered on Thursday) and the availability of a lot of products which are not available in Kuwait and if they are, they are overpriced.
Then a post regarding the Kuwait Post on how to track packages. They actually have a number you can call where a guy picks up the phone, you tell him your tracking number and he’ll tell you from which Post Office to pick it up. I have ordered numerous things off AliExpress and they reach Kuwait within 2-3 months.
These are the two things I could think off the top of my head. Perhaps, there could be one big post about sites which directly ship to Kuwait instead of shipping forwarders.
Hello, Could you actually post that number? Would really help me out. Thank you.

I think you should consider doing something about your forums cuz it seriously sucks now. Especially the classifieds sections used to be really active now ever since you changed everything its been dead. I hope you consider going back where people can bid on items and socialize.
I closed the forum last year and the classifieds section is ridiculously active so no clue what you’re talking about…
I think he is talking about the bidding scene at teh classified earlier.
Now its just another classified; before we could get more info on products, and what others thing on the valuation etc.
That was like 5 or 6 years ago, it was a total mess
I also agree that the bidding system in the old forum was the best and miss it so much
Mark, I am sure everyone who follows this blog religiously agrees, we don’t mind waiting for you to come back from vacation to post again. Take some time for yourself. This blog has become routine for a lot of individuals, and as such, we are like one big internet family π So go do your thing and have fun! If you MUST post to scratch some itch, you could simply just take photos of the sunset or food of the country you are in. No need for explicit details, just some fun photos. In any case, it is your blog and you do you. Have fun on your vacation π
Don’t stress yourself out too much, but I can understand your pov, get the community to find a solution to jam up posts or interesting posts so you can live stress free and have enough support to keep going as long as you do.
Your page is set to open on start-up and I at least scan it every time I open my browser. I don’t particularly like reading the news or gossips. But I love stumbling on something that will widen my horizon and make me dream bigger; or even read about something very random that would get me ponder all day..
As mentioned above, it’s your blog. Anyone would read according to the vibrations you are emitting here, and there will always be vibrations that match. Do what you do best. The rest will follow.
Well some1 who knows about how blogging works, as much you want to take break, you just can’t leave the blog inactive for so many days. It’s something you opted for.
I agree with you completely and suggest you the same that keep posting about the things which you come across whiles you are traveling. This will fulfill the purpose of the blog and will not affect the things which a blogger is worried about.
Meanwhile if your contacts from Kuwait can send you some short updates in a form of short paragraphs, than it’s easy to post them as well, in order to fulfill the requirement of number of posts.
As you have said numerous times, it’s your personal blog, but it’s something which most of the people in Kuwait would like to read at some point.
Maybe post some real general stuff, like one post a day is fine with me….
But Mark you NEED someone else to write regularly on the blog, someone who writes a quarter to a third of all the posts, so that he/she can takeover a bit while you take a break
“catch one of my drunken rants” … now that wud be somethin π
post em.. but dont delete ..
Umm…okay? Sure I get that it’s hard to be inspired to post when you’re on vacation, but you know it’s hard to feel sorry for you when you’re on vacation and when your main job is a blog. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure you work hard at it, but there are a lot harder jobs and this comes off as whiny, even if that wasn’t your intention. Waiting for Mark to swear at me or call me an idiot in 3…2…1…
i have three jobs, the blog is just one of them
Point taken. I assume though that you aren’t doing your other jobs while in the states, correct? This post was about being uninspired, which is fine, but I dunno. There are plenty of solutions and many commenters have put forth good ones. Might be worth looking into.
I don’t know if you’ll post this without a snarky response but mark get over yourself and stop whining. You earn boocoo bucks for a job many people dream of. Stop complaining and thinking we care about your fatigue…..
Yeah it does come off as very whiny.
I wasn’t actually whining in my post but explaining the lack of posts this past week and how I’ll be solving it . On the other hand your comment sounded like you were whining which I’ve heard over and over before and it’s like come on guys… just move on already. If you don’t like my writing style or my content, there’s always other places to get your news from.
Either create drafts and post them while on vacation inform your audience you will not be updating on NEW stuff for a while, or just keep it closed for the time of vacation. You can’t go on vacation and work at the same time. That’s not a vacation, nor work.
Hey Mark, how about an article on the rising cost of cell phone plans and mobile internet here? Like they have all gone through the roof, all at the same time! Seems crazy! I’m new here, but don’t we have any consumer protection for this?
i think the prices of our cell phone plans are pretty cheap compared to places like Lebanon and pretty competitive compared to places like the States. I’m paying KD15 here in the states for 10GB internet and unlimited talk time, in Kuwait I pay KD15 but get 50GB of internet and 500 minutes of talk time.
Enjoy your vacation Mark, we’ll be here when you’re back.
