So the new MacBook’s are out and I want one. Problem is every time I get the first release of a laptop from Apple I get screwed. With my iBook I ended up with the infamous logic board problem, with my MacBook I ended up with the discolored palm rest followed by a logic board problem. So thats twice in a row, which is why I am hesitant. [Link]

Am disappointed…i was hopping for a 12″, i desperately need to change my 12″ PB, i have been waiting for almost 2 years now but will not go for the 13″.
I love my 12″ PB its very compact, i guess am gona stick to it for a while.

I don’t know one person that changed to Mac & hated it, & I practically marketed for Macs for more than 8 of my friends & all of them got Macs & not one of them regretted it !! (I guess i should start taking commissions 🙂 )

Loved the new redesign of the MacBook and MacBook Pro.

Hope Digits gets a configured 2.8Ghz MacBook Pro.. That would be perfect.. they did that with the iMac.. so, I’ll guess I’ll keep my fingers crossed :p

The new Apple LED cinema display is great too.. loved the connector cables :p

well, by the time they fixed the macbook problem they released macbook air and now this. so i guess problems with macs will always be there. u can’t just wait for them to have a proper version. unless u’re going to get old one.

Yeah Holla, I was soo looking forward to an Mac netbook! I’ll have to settle with the alluminum macbook for now.

to keep it simple, for anybody who is getting serious in computer stuff, photo, video, or designs. I highly recommend using Macs.

if you can afford Macbook Pro, get it, and don’t hesitate.
I was very anxious before and after I bought iMac 20″ last Nov.
At this moment, I thank god that I’ve become Mac user, and Apple loyalist. From knowing nothing about Mac, I got much better over the past year. It is very pro machine, every piece is made from quality, these guys have made their products very finely.
It just takes few months, till u eliminate the dependence on Microsoft programs. Once u use Mac applications, man I tell ya, you will see the the fun part of doing what u love on computers.

I am a photo guy, Mac offered my wonderful management for my images. Starting from high quality screen to the ease of flowing between big number of opened images at short time.
It is sexy machine for videography also.
whether u r beginner or semi-pro, u gonna like it. cuz there are applications for different levels and needs.

It doesn’t freeze, no viruses, it DOESN’T have antivirus, screw IBM.

I bought iPhone, I started to love Apple. Their crazy phone made my
buy iMac 20″, I made decision to buy iMac just few hours before I went to the store. I bought iPhone 2 recently, complete satisfaction.
Now I am on the way to buy Macbook Pro, no regrets for sure.

It is Apple era, seriously guys.
IBM is going down the drain (at least in my view).

For now, it’s just a hype created by their rabid fanbois and 0.1% people in the creative industry who inherited the OS and have all their work based on Apple macintosh.

Mark I went through the same problems as you. I got my hands on the first Macbook Pro shipment and I got screwed. I’m gonna wait a few months for all the bugs and problems to be sorted out and then I’m getting one.

Abdulla, I love OSX. But I’m a die hard IBM fan too. Maybe Lenovo don’t make ThinkPads like they used too, maybe Vista sucks! But still, have some respect! :p

I am actually completely surprised by Cajie’s response since he does a lot of research. Macs aren’t hype, if they were there market share wouldn’t be growing and Windows users wouldn’t be switching. It is VERY VERY rare to find someone switching from a mac to a pc. I have actually never heard of anyone doing that to be honest. If Macs were hype people would switch and then switch back to windows.

Saying macs are just hype is very naive. Saying that 0.1% of the creative industry uses macs is EXTREMELY naive since that number hovers around what like 90% or higher?

The 0.1% was incorrectly written by me. What I had meant to write was:
“0.1% of ALL computer users (those who work in the creative industry)”. I have no doubt the percentage WITHIN the creative industry is very high (90% or more).

The first part, of course, holds true. i.e. using Macs for business. It’s not going to happen anytime soon.

The people who are switching from Windows to Macs are the home users who don’t mind paying a premium for a simplified experience and would rather not deal with the hassles of a windows environment. I say good for them.

And that was early in the year, check same time next year and that should even be more.

Thats a big chunk of change. Business is business, thats not Apple’s target market, thats more Linux turf. Apple is targeting people when they get back home.

OSX isn’t a simplified experience, I don’t know how you concluded that. If you understood easy to use and no viruses meant its a watered down version of Windows you’re wrong. OSX is a fully featured OS, if it wasnt Microsoft wouldn’t be stealing ideas from it.

I think you’re sounding like Microsoft in the old days, whats changed today is that Microsoft have realized Apple is a real threat but you still think its only hype.

Mark, I know nothing about Mac but always want to ask .. if most of your work has to do with Microsoft products can you manage to use these MS files and give MS people a readable Mac files? ya3ni can you still communicate with non Mac softwares ?

Microsoft Office on the Mac and PC are exactly the same, they both open each others files, they both create files that can be read and edited by the other.

But, there is no Microsoft Office Arabic on macs.

Before in the old days pre OSX, macs and pcs werent very compatible. You needed to install a special plug in for example on macs to be able to read PC floppy disks and PC’s couldn’t read Mac disks unless they also had a special software installed.

Even if the 21% figure is accurate, it simply confirms what I said.. A lot of home users in US can afford a computer (maybe not anymore) – and don’t mind picking up Apple.

Apple’s global market share, on the other hand, is around 3%.

For me, I would only be interested in a Mac if it can work in both the office and home. Till then, I am going in my cryogenic chamber.

I Have the old MacBook The White one and its great so i think that the new one is twice better speacilly when it has a Video Card and it is made from alliminum so the body is stornger and liter…..I think im gonna give this iBook to my bro he is still vista and im gonna buy a new one……….

lol. That’s because nobody wants to make pretentious looking PC’s costing > $1000.

Actually there is no reason whatsoever for not buying a mac now.
All your windows applications and documents can be opened in mac using vmware’s fusion. with the latest version 2 you can just doubleclick on the file and it will open windows application in a new window. As a matter of fact working on windows is safer in mac with automated timed snapshots which you can roll back anytime windows crashes (i know it will) only thing make sure you have more ram.

Than thing is neat! But just like Cajie said, it’s a hype. If i bought the Macbook i’d put XP on that thing as soon as i buy it!

Do you know what it means when you say Apple is just hype? It means its built up to be something really cool but then when you use it you realize its not that good.

Meaning people who switch from Windows to Mac and then not enjoy the experience and decide to switch back to Windows.

Does anyone here really know of anyone who did that? Switching back to Windows that is. No need to answer back, just think about it.

Am I the only one to see the uncanny resemblance the new MacBooks bear to HP’s current laptop family design? The same silver body and black keyboard, the same black trim around the screen…Hmmm.

And I’m not just saying this because I own an HP.

Urm, so to avoid those defaults Mark mentioned, I’d have to wait for the 2nd bunch of new macbooks to come out? How long would I have to wait?

Very underwhelming updates. Style over substance and as usual, overpriced for what they offer. I own a MacBook Pro, so I like Macs, but this is disappointing. How they can offer a Pro laptop without a matte screen option is beyond a joke.

I’m saying they look like the HPs because HP’s laptops–unlike most other manufacturers’–are shiny.

Also, I’m not saying that the new MacBook’s ugly–it looks really nice, actually. I was just making an observation!

And now, just because I’m bored and feeling inflammatory:

is it possible that they well release a matte screen option in the future or will have to buy the crappy glossy one?

I guess it is about mass market now. Apple offered matt and glossy displays for the Pro series before this update. I am sure they decided to ditch the matt because not so many are buying them. I think this is a good update in general. Better graphics, new design, LED display, and better chase. The new manufacturing process by itself gives an excellent quality product.

Finally, The new macbook Pro’s are here I’m a mac fanatic and cant wait to get my hands on one of those baby’s. In my opinion and from my experience with both P.C’s and Mac’s I have found that the Macbook Pro out performs most pc laptops. I’m currently using my 2yr old macbook pro and it’s still as good as the first day I bought it 😉

I have to say im not surprised that the new macbooks are cheaper, apple finally trying to get into the sub-$1000 market especially with todays economy however the macbook pro prices haven’t changed and it’ll be interesting to see if they can keep up the strong pace of sales at their prices that are considered premium to the market.

What’s wrong with Amazon?!

I tried to pre order the macbook pro but it seems Amazon started to charge taxes on Apple products!!

In the bill, they added around $212 as tax for a $2495 macbook pro.. Since when did Amazon charge taxes on Apple products.. Does any one know anything about this issue?

I ordered my previous macbook from Amazon and I didn’t have to pay a cent for taxes!!

The problem is any order with a value more than $2500 needs a Custom Declaration Form (Refer to Aramex & UShopWeShip shopping tips).. Which means the macbook pro + taxes needs the stupid form.

I emailed Amazon to ask them if they could send such a form.. and their reply was the following:

“Please note that we will not be able to provide any Custom declaration form for items shipped.

The only invoice available for your Amazon.com purchases is the invoice that displays a summary of your orders and their associated costs at any time.”

I seems there wont be a new MacBook Pro for me 🙁

I loved Amazon because it was cheap + Tax free.

It seems online shopping will not be as fun as it was 🙁

Amazon charges taxes only if you ship to a state that requires tax to be collected. As of now, NY is the only state I know that forces Amazon to charge tax on sales destined to NY.

I think , the world is changing ,, the new OS is the browser. nowadays, you do everything with it. no need for MAC OS , XP, Vista , ubuntu, or any other crap. I am talking about Apple hardware it sucks big time. the quality is bad. Mark. your laptop died on you out of the sudden.
