My MacBook is Dead

macbook

Looks like my MacBook has died. I don’t know whats wrong with it. One minute I was browsing the web then suddenly it just went dead. I tried to turn it on again and whenever I press the power button the screen flickrs for a second and nothing happens. I’ve tried everything and nothing, it doesn’t boot, doesn’t even turn on, its fucked. I am guessing the logic board got messed up or something, the same thing happened with my last Apple laptop, sucks!

Bit harsh on 3azeez I feel, he was just trying to help… I think you could be right with the logic board theory though. I presume it completely goes dead (no fan, no hdd, no lights) once it has flickered? Sorry, am no expert on mac’s (although just got a macbook pro) so I am not up to speed on the known issues. Hope you get a resolution soon, fingers crossed.

Mark the exact thing happened to me before few days with my macbook pro, so i just took off the battery and flipped it upside down to cool for 20 min. then i tried to switch it on and voila! my mac started working again.

That’s why I love AppleCare Extended Warranty. It saved me $500 few months ago when my iMac Logic Board acted on me.

Mark – in answer to your question in point 2: Yes. Because you got a mac πŸ˜‰ (Just kidding, I’m sure macs have their good points)

yea in the case of having the pc in the time hes had the macbook, he would have to have formatted three times, run sluggish from all the anti-virus softwares, crashes weekly, get a stupid virus or 2 and more importantly end up with a frustration dealt broken screen

What the hell is a logic board? And why would it just spontaneously fuck up? THAT IS ILLOGICAL.

Only on a Mac.

Logic board is basically the motherboard. I actually have 2 powerbooks with me also. One was for my brother, the logic board also got fucked and the other is for my sister and it also has a problem with the logic board, the laptop works but when u move it, it crashes.

hmmmm ur scaring me right now is it gonna happen to me to i just got mine like around ten months ago and im using it like crazy πŸ˜› maybe its time and usage. how long have u had it and how much do u use it? i just wanna know so i can know how long mine is gonna stay with me πŸ˜›

first ur xbox now ur macbook i guess ur running throw a period of bad luck – ive got to agree with Fixed u. But. remember everything come in threes .. lets hope it’s not your car or sumfin next

the laptop works but when u move it, it crashes.

^^

that’s exactly what had happened with my iBook G3 .. mac should really have a second look for their hardware durability .. designed in california made in taiwan is a big fuc* ! they should go for asus to build their machines .. like most companies do ..

Its normal for a Mac to do that. Mine did the same. PC’s might not be ” as cool”, but they last longer.

“designed in california made in taiwan” its made in china.

and I carry my laptop everywhere with me and it never crashed. just that 1 time after having my pb for 4 years, the HD gave up.

I never liked Mac. Ever since our old Mac desktop got messed up and also after seeing a couple of iPods just “die” I decided never to buy a product based on hype or fad.

I figured that the best thing to do is to customize your own stuff, if you know what you’re doing or let someone do it for you.

Besides that, I personally find Mac products to be just too expensive with a short lifespan and they don’t seem to be very durable.

I dont buy Mac products cuz of hype or fad, I just care about the OS. If I could get Leopard running on a ThinkPad I would consider a thinkpad. although to be honest after using mac products other computers look like they’re from the stoneage.

oh boy, Cool up your AC! Apple laptops need cool air because it makes a lot of heat..etc

ok, i think you gave both Windows and Mac a try, what about Linux? (I advice you to download Ubuntu or Debian linux distros) ! πŸ™‚

and you can use WinHQ to make windows programs work on linux πŸ˜€

YAAAAY!

I have a problem with Imac
It was re-booting so fast i was feeling great about switching to mac from PC it all started when i installed windows in bootcamp it started giving me hardtime so uninstalled the windows and boot camp separation.

Eversince switching it on after the kids accidently pull the cord or switches it off, is a pain and takes 3 or 4 minutes

But yesterday night i found that if i unplug the external harddisk from the usb port while re-booting, mac starts faster. yet to confirm this but thought it might help somebody.

Now, onto your problem. If you care to fix it (looks like you are moving on as per your other post); if it died when you were using it, it could be a heat problem. 99% of problems with macbooks are because they don’t have proper heat dissipation, incidentally this is also the reason you cannot run powerbooks (and macbook pros) with the lid closed — believe it or, the heat dissipates from the keyboard.

When you turn it back on you say the screen ‘flickers and then it dies’; then its not a logic board issue — since a fried logic board would render the computer completely useless — a very nice paperweight.

So it is probably a memory or disk issue; somethings to try (if you haven’t already):

1. Boot with the restore disk and activate the diagnostic mode.
2. If you don’t have the restore disk available, boot from any 64 bit Linux distribution’s “live cd” and choose the memory diagnostic. This will at least eliminate some of the issues.

Hope this helps.

Burhan it is a logic board problem. I know macs inside out, literally!

1) It doesn’t boot up at all, no beeps, chimes, grey screen or anything
2) removed ram, swapped hard drives still doesn’t boot
3) screen doesn’t even flicker anyone, nothing happens now when i click the power button so definitely logic board. also FYI, I had a logic board problem before and the mac used to still boot.

hey i need some help, my BookMac looks like died, suddenly the scream was black, with a question tag in the middle, that s all, the manufacturers says that the hard disk is damaged, the computer is 18 months old. Oh come on it cant be possible!

Well now you have an interesting conversation piece πŸ™‚ You could always salvage it for parts (I’m assuming its out of warranty). Mac parts are hard to find; perhaps that would go nicely towards your new macbook pro fund.

Incidentally the macbook pro was just recently upgraded — Feb 2008 with an upgraded chipset and the multi-touch trackpad; so I doubt that they will do any major upgrades during the WWDC. I think the WWDC will be used to announce the next version of the iphone and updates to the imac lines; maybe an update of the macbook due to the lackluster graphics performance of the Intel onboard video.

The next upgrade to the macbook pro should be around the time (Q3 2008) when Intel announces the quad core mobile chipset — that’s right — 4 cores on your laptop.

Sorry to hear about your Mac…..
But I’ve given up on Apple! They’re money grubbing maniacs who charge consumers a large sum of money for fualty products that usually fail shortly after the warranty expires… I purchased a 4th generation Ipod “I think 40 GB” that completely died a day after the one year waranty! I called Apple up about a week prior to my year ending and asked if i could pay for a warranty extension and the operator said I could…. She then began to tell me how they discontinued making the model I owned because the Motherboards or the hard drives were failing too easily on that model….. Why didn’t these B*stards do a recall if they know that their 400 + dollar gadget is deffective? It seems to me that they build their gadgets to last for about a year and break down.. Then when i called apple back after my unit died they refused to take it and said they canceled my warranty renewal because my address was rejected by Apple…. they didn’t send me an email or anything asking me to give them another address… Then they unviel the I phone and charge people a crap load of money and slash the prices a few months later…That’s messed up! People got pissed and were given some s*itty rebate to use at the Apple store to buy more deffective products!.. I don’t mind paying big bucks for things but i want to know that it will last and or it will be replaced if it dies…. If my Oakley glasses break, you better believe I will be getting it repaired for free”just pay for shipping”! It’s part of the reason I’ll spend more money on expensive brands! In closing I would pay big money to be able to throw my 4th generation Ipod “I tried another one and it died just before the 13th month” at Steve Job’s head! They’re abusing the consumer and i feel like I’m the only one who sees this…. I have a creative Zen Vision that is working beautifully after 2 years! Apple should be boycotted till they learn how to treat the consumer better…. But they will continue to uncermoniously rape consumers until the consumer opens their eyes and takes a stand.. Sorry for the rant but I’ve been holding that in for a while now….

my macbook’s battery died a few days ago too, AFTER i took it to the tech guy at digits to install a new hard drive. he was like your battery’s dead.. it’s not charging. ;/ :@
