Over the weekend I experienced 3 power cuts within a 24 hour period. The first two lasted for just over an hour but the third power cut lasted from 8PM to 4AM. There are now around 7 large power generators spread out in my neighborhood (Block 9, Salmiya) and it doesn’t seem like it’s just my area. I was talking to a friend who lives in Rumaithiya and they’ve had power generators installed on their street for a few weeks now. I don’t know what’s the purpose of all the generators in my area, the power cut was due to a burned cable but that was already fixed.
When I posted about the power cut on twitter a follower suggested I spend a night in the hotel. Did you guys know that the majority of hotels won’t accept single men with local residency? I found that out when I was getting my divorce. I needed to spend a few nights in a hotel and I couldn’t find a hotel that would let me stay. In the end I found a hotel in the city that let me stay a few nights but only because I think the receptionist took pity on me.

Sorry to hear about the power outage. Regarding the hotels, I wonder what about foreign tourists who are single, how does that work? Won’t hotel accept them?
Tourists are fine, its just with single residents which is the issue because they assume single men who live in Kuwait and need a hotel room need it for immoral activities…

When checking in just give your passport instead of civil id. Problem entirely solved for me that way.

Same thing happened to me when I needed a room to study for my exams and my home was all packed up of vacation guests. Nobody let me in there except one in Bneid Al Gar.

I know this lovely Australian couple who live next to me in Mishref who have an AirBnB listing that’s a big, spacious house.
The problem is is that AirBnB in a lot of Arab countries, including Kuwait, it seems are single, morally depraved men trying to take advantage of naive, Western women (or men, let’s not be in denial here).

To stay in a hotel in Kuwait you need hide that you have a Kuwaiti ID and pretend you’re a tourist. Worked for me with my Omani ID but I guess won’t work for non-GCC expats if the hotel checks their passports to see what kind of visa they’re on.
Is this legal? The hotels are discriminating between married and single/divorced/widowed people, Also they are not allowing unmarried people based purely on assumptions.

I thought that rule was only for Kuwaitis? I got a hotel once when my AC broke down and I was able to get a room without any difficulties.
I once had to get a hotel room for couple of day due to switching apartments and came into the same experience, yet it worked with me through booking/paying on the phone with Marriott Courtyard. I don’t if they still do it tho… that was 4 years ago.
Years ago, me and my mom were looking at this hotel near Marina Mall and she asked if they had a room and they asked her for her marriage certificate! But years after that, when we needed a hotel room, we booked at Ibis without any problems.
