Recommend a Health Insurance Company

I canceled my medical insurance around three years back because I wasn’t really using it. Dumb move obviously since I got raped with the hospital bill last month for my broken ankle. I paid KD450 just for the two screws alone and thats not including the surgery, hospital stay or anything else! So now I’m back looking for an insurance company to sign up to. If you guys can recommend an insurance company based on your personal experience that would be super helpful to me and to anybody else who might be interested in getting medical insurance.

WARBA!!!!! Aaaahaahahahahahahahahhahahah

You’d be better off just paying out of pocket. The suckiest sucks that ever sucked.

They r just great if you’re married to someone who works there.

Things have been tough since my divorce…..

I know this is your blog but I just hate it that, in this day and age, people are so desensitized to words with traumatic connotations, specifically the words “rape” & “hijacking”, which are used often with reckless abandon.

To people who’ve actually been raped, it does seem a tad bit inconsiderate.

https://www.theatlantic.com/sexes/archive/2012/11/there-is-no-such-thing-as-verbal-rape-or-facebook-rape-or-netflix-rape/265774/

Oh and Warba is great. I’d go with them.

I hate it that, in this day and age, there are people like you who are so freakin sensitive to every single fucking thing. Did you email Louie a hate letter for his skit on SNL as well?

That’s unfortunate that you say this Mark.
It’s not about being ‘freaking sensitive’.
What a shame.

~a

It clearly is about being super sensitive. I can’t say he hijacked this thread because the word hijacked might offend someone? Am I not allowed to use the words kill or hit also?

You can concur all you want but it doesn’t change the fact you’re wrong and completely inappropriate and I request you stop hijacking this thread to push your own agenda.

You clowns are ignoring context and that’s a simplistic approach. And you’re implying that mark is blaisé about rape and I find that disgusting.

Use your brains to understand the context of diction rather than reacting like spellcheck. Words aren’t magic. No one gets raped when the word is used. I’d call you hypertensive pussies but you’d probably bitch out.

Maybe you should change your name to THOUGHTPOLICE instead. Words are words. You’re equating words with actions. And that’s poppycock.

I hope you get poppycock and you need WARBA insurance and have to spend hours talking to doichebags over the phone and filling out stacks of papers made from the puréed flesh of dead trees.

Get him Mark, get him good. No good word nazi, yeah I compared him to a nazi, a rapist pedophile nazi 😀

I kinda agree with you about the use of certain words in certain situations, personally I stopped using the word rape to really describe anything. Obviously not everyone sees it that way.

I have a pretty good sense of humor and I still don’t think rape is funny. If you do *shrugs* then you do.

Me thinks you have a poor uptight sense of humor. But if you think its good *shrugs* then it is. 😉

Unless you know me personally then I’m pretty sure you don’t know what I find funny or not. Just because I find it tasteless to make rape jokes, doesn’t mean you can assume anything else. It doesn’t mean I’m “uptight” or anything lol

@Patrick: thank you.

@Mark, that was uncalled for. That post was not directed towards you per se. If you thought what I said was hateful, then I’m sorry.

I guess a person will never know how powerful that word truly is until they go through that ordeal themselves.

Your comment was completely uncalled for not mine. I can’t believe I’m even having this discussion. I can understand if I was making fun of rape you’d come in here and say that but just because I used the word rape you turned me into a insensitive asshole? How dare you.

Listen, if there’s one thing I’m not, it’s passive aggressive.

If I thought you were an insensitive asshole, I’d call you out on it straight up. I’d call you “an insensitive asshole” or “a total fuckin bitch” because I prefer using that word when attacking heterosexual men I don’t think have a clear conscience.

Obviously, I don’t think you are or else I would’ve just called you that and be done with it.

I would’ve also stopped reading this blog months ago. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I agree with 90% of the views you express on here. The fact that you block anyone who uses the “F Word” makes me want to send you a bouquet of flowers.

I just didn’t like what you said, it doesn’t make me think you’re a jerk.

“Listen, if there’s one thing I’m not, it’s passive-aggressive…”
-the most passive aggressive person in Kuwait.

I want you picture yourself chasing windmills. Because that’s what you’re doing right now.

know of cases where the docs here fly along with patients to India, operate there and come back… still turns out to be cheaper

the oldest known book on surgery (susrutha samhita) was written in india. Nothing beats experience.. we treat 1.2 billion people, coupled with some really smart people who graduate after competing against the same kind of pool. doubt you would get the same level of treatment anywhere in the middle east.

I live in Kuwait whats wrong with you guys? You expect me to fly all the way to a country I’ve never been to in my life to fix a broken leg? jeeez….

My company uses SAICO and i have never had any problems. Just show the Gold Card and i don’t worry about paying a fil.

Check out NAS from Boubyan Bank. Its really efficient, I have used ALICO and Warba before. NAS is with easy approvals, good services and offers.

For orthopaedic problems. Go to Alrazi hospital, they have more capabilities than private hospitals since they are specialized in the field.

that was originally the plan but you need to “know” somewhere there to get the right attention and my contact had left razi. for me to go to razi i would have had to go to mubarak hospital seen a dr there who would then transfer me to razi. i would then have to go to razi and wait all day to see a dr and then scheduling the surgery would have taken time as well. i honestly just wanted to go through the process as quickly as possible which is why i ended up at seef.

I work for an insurance brokerage firm in Kuwait. I can get you the best quotations with the best coverage from various insurance companies. Contact me for more info.

Hi Ahmed,
Can I contact you? I am looking for a health insurance and I am a bit lost. Would be great if i can use your company’s services. Many thanks

Gulfmed are great. I’m pretty healthy, but when I did need them I had no problems. This applies to almost all insurance companies. The real test is when you have a preexisting condition that requires frequent doc visits and medication and/or frequent hospitalization. That’s when they all become totally crap, and you have to fight with them on the phone every time to accept covering anything. That’s what I’ve heard from a doctor who works in a private hospital.

Coming to think of it, ask someone who works in a private hospital which is the best insurance company. They will know better than anyone. If you do, please share the answer with us.

Mark, my family and I for the past 10 – 15 years have been using the 60 odd KD a year mandatory medical insurance you’re supposed to take before every residency renewal. You also get a fancy grey medical card with your face looking like a convict but this card gives you unlimited access to world class medical care. Yes, it does cost quite a lot but you won’t be dissappointed. We have used it several times at….. umm…. let me think. We’ve never used it?

#%$*@!!! We’ve never used it!

Piece of sh*t ‘medical insurance’ my a**!

You should be happy that you never had to use it. Government hospitals are shit, but if you ever have anything serious they are the only places that are even allowed by law to treat you (ex, cancer, heart attack, blood diseases, etc..)

I don’t mind using government hospitals especially razi. i actually wanted to use razi but i also wanted to get my surgery done asap so i could start the recovery process and thats why i went with Seef. I saw the dr and booked the surgery for the same day. its now exactly 4 weeks later and i’m walking without crutches since yesterday. unbelievable.

Actually government hospitals are the best, all the leading consulting doctors who have been trained by german hospitals alike are forced to work for the ministry, compared to a 7 year specialist from god-knows-where eastern european country like dar alshifa and alsalam hospital, who killed my best friend from a mistake in knee surgery who made him get a blood clot as a stroke.

Us kuwaities know whats good in our country and whats bad. THE ONLY and ONLY reason to get medical insurance is to visit On-DEMAND these consultants I mentioned about before (who work in ministry) in their outpatient clinics inside private hospitals without having to wait 2 weeks.

My father had a heart bypass surgery from Dr Alrashdan, worlds best 100 surgeons and was done in Amiri hospital, the same surgery was offered for 13,000 KD from a cardiology surgeon from macedonia (I dont want to mention the name of the hospital), and I can read REST-IN-PEACE all over his face.

Sorry to burst the bubble folks, what I said is tricks of the trade that us kuwaities know about how to get our medical needs sorted in Kuwait.

that was my last insurance company but their advantage was that it worked really well in lebanon. i am looking for something that works really well here.

I broke my hand few years back in a football game and i went to Razi hospital on government Insurance and they did a small operations with some screws.. and i just paid 2KD as i remember.. it was Great Deal 😀

I don’t have much information about it but BUPA has been amazing for me. Its a little expensive, but I get worldwide coverage for everything except dental.
I’ve had four surgeries for my knee ligament in the past three years, and I’ve not had any problems as such.

I used NAS and BUPA (currently on BUPA)…both pretty good. Fast approvals, and easy going. And they support dental (you pay 10% and to a certain limit per year), but depending on the package. Not sure about the cost, cause I had these free from my employer. With BUPA I’m insured up to 3 million dollars, with global coverage!

-Gus

We were using Warba before and now using Gulf Insurance. Both of them are great, but we are under corporate package with full family insurance. I’m not sure about personal insurance.

I work in the medical field in a private hospital so I get to have a good comparison between different companies. Top 3 would be SAICO, ALICO, AETNA. They approve any procedures/surgeries without asking so many questions. NAS on the other hand.. ugh. We hate it. The people in their company reviewing the medical reports we send them are so stupid and incompetent that sometimes a simple XRAY gets rejected. GIC asks a lot of questions too. Stingy when when it comes to their clients.

Nothing beats BUPA. You can get it from Kuwait since Gulf Insurance is their agent here, or you can get it online for the exact same price. Its perfect since you dont have to pay anything at all when you go see a doctor, and you can tailor make it to fit your needs so it can include medicine if you want, or you pay less and pay for your own medicines etc.

oh, and you can use it anywhere in the world except the USA so its perfect for emergencies or if you have to have a serious procedure done and you prefer to get it done somewhere other than kuwait.

I looked at BUPA seems good, when i clicked on “get a quotation” it asked me to contact Warba Insurance company not Gulf (?) Is there a way to get it online as you say?

In my personal experience ALICO and Gulf Life Insurance are very good. My wife used the insurance for maternity checkups and deliveries for both our kids. I’ve also used it for MRIs for my shoulder and a minor surgery that I had some years ago.
The approval for surgery doesn’t take long and they don’t ask a lot of questions.

Hi Mark,

I would say ALICO. It also offer international coverage based on your plan and servcie is good. You just have to make sure with them that all hospitals in Kuwait accept ALICO insurance.

Dear Mark,

Gulf trust is an insurance broker operating in Kuwait and we are ready to help you to sort out your insurance needs.

many advantages…one is comparing apples with apples which can be difficult, two building on their experience of who is good or not, three follow up with the problems if any

Read the fine print before you sign a contract. Sometimes injuries due to participating in dangerous activities and sports are not covered.

First takaful insurance is one of the best insurance companies that handle life and medical insurance really well…I highly recommend this firm 4 any kind of service

SAICO gold for GCC and Cigna world card for rest of the world. They have a tie up. No hassle and almost everything covered. Rest of local insurance most probably will try to make you pay for those screws or stents or anything expensive. You probably Can claim back from 60-80% for the medical spares but you are expected to pay in cash then claim back for most of the local ones and it all depends upon what scheme you choose. But SAICO with Cigna has been best experience in Kuwait.

I have Cigna International/SAICO with my company. Not sure about the cost, but SAICO has been amazing. When we had our first child, it covered all but 30 KD at Al Seef. I also had wrist surgery at New Mowaset in Salmiya and it covered 100%. No questions asked. You do go through approvals for every little thing, but the hospital handles that and it’s not bad. I’ve used it here and in Riyadh. I’ve been very happy with SAICO.

I’ve gone through all the insurance companies and…

Alico is the best but expensive
Warba is the worst
Nas is my preference especially if you have the vip status and also good when travelling and need care in the region

Hi,

Can someone please provide the contact information for these individual granting health insurance companies?

Mark,

please let us know what you opt for…Thanks.

Any help would be appreciated.

I’m trying to get health insurance for my newborn girl and my wife, possibly me as well.

After reading the thread it seems SAICO was the best option however I could find the contact number for them in Kuwait.

If anyone can share, that’s be great!
