The Flight Back

My flight from New York to Turkey went by pretty quick since I slept all the way but I did experience a few new things I hadn’t experienced on the way there which I felt was necessary to post about. The first is that Live TV was working on this flight. This was my first experience with Live TV on a plane and it was pretty interesting. They had 4 channels to choose from, BBC English and BBC Arabic, Barclays Premier League Football and Euronews. I was watching BBC for example when I found out Gaddafi’s son got arrested so I was in the loop on current events even though I was stuck on a plane for over 10 hours. I did wish they had more channels but really the only channels that would make sense live would be news and sports channels since everything else really isn’t live anyway.

For our second meal on the flight they served breakfast. I had an omelet which even though was good, I was kinda disappointed that I couldn’t have it my way specially since we had a chef on board. I’ve flown business class on another airline with a chef and they allowed me to dictate exactly what I wanted in my omelet. It’s a minor quibble but one worth mentioning.

One major thing I liked about Turkish Airlines is the fact that business class was just 4 rows. On a large plane like the 777, 4 row of business class makes you feel like you’re sitting in first. We also had 2 or 3 flight attendants in our class and a chef taking care of us; that’s a really good ratio. Finally the legroom is just ridiculous. There has to be over a meter in space which gives you a lot of room to stretch your legs but also makes the whole class feel very spacious. The seats are also really wide so once you turn it into a bed you’ve got decent rolling space.

Overall I had a really positive experience on the flight to and back from New York. I’ve got one more post left which is the Turkish Airlines Lounge which I’ll try to have up tomorrow. For now if you have any questions regarding the flight just post it below.

going the stop over was like 1 hour. the way back it was 5 hours. I would highly recommend going into the city to kill time. i regretted not doing that since i got bored after 2 or 3 hours. there is free wifi at the lounge, lots of free food, pool table, tvs etc.. but still, 5 hours isn’t very short and it would have been a lot more fun heading to the city. the airport also offer tours of the city for you if you’re there for a long time.

@ Mishal: I think someone should do this in the Middle-east. Wataniya is coming back, maybe they can do something like this?

Thanks for this information, might try them now. thanks for snoozing off a bit, because we got to read the two Kuwaitis fighting unchecked by you who made the dead flamingos in Kuwait about them. How typical Kuwait.

Hey how come you didn’t say hi? I was exhausted since it was a hectic week but I didn’t want to go to sleep on that flight until I got back to Kuwait so I wouldn’t mess up my whole sleep schedule.

Sorry for the dead flamingo but…just trying to lighten up an otherwise depressing issue….:( lesson learned.

Re the flight- how does Turkish compare with say BA re business class?

I’ve been on the older BA business class which looked like this https://images.businessweek.com/ss/05/10/index_awards/image/british-air-2.jpg

It had a flat bed as well but it was a much more tighter environment although still comfy. The Turkish Airlines seats are wider and the legroom and space around you is huge. Plus BA have a lot of business class rows and seats so less exclusivity. On the other hand the BA have a snack bar full of munchies and goodies to snack on through out the flight. I didn’t see anything similar on Turkish Airlines.

Gulf Air business class I’ve tried looked like this https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3205/2885932604_a6be211cae.jpg
Their seats were comfy but are lie flats and not flat beds. Not very comfy to sleep on. Legroom not as much as Turkish. On the other hand their chef on board makes your omelet fresh the way you want them.

Lufthansa Business class I tried looked like this https://www.flatseats.com/images/LH-J-1.jpg
Decent legroom, seats are not flat beds. Not comfy at all to sleep on although way better than trying to sleep upright in economy.

I can’t think of any other business class I’ve tried for long flights, i think these are the 3.
