While in New York I picked up the Elgato video capture device for my Mac. Basically it allows me to connect regular RCA and S-Video cables to my Mac which I can then use to convert analogue video like old VHS and Betamax tapes to digital. I have a ton of old videos from the 80’s I want to start converting to digital and sharing on this blog. My issue is the Betamax tapes, does anyone know where I can get a hold of a Betamax player here in Kuwait?

PC video capture devices yes. Macs I doubt since I never found one here.

I have a huge sony beta player but it doesn’t work too well. Good luck with your search though. You can find one here… if I can find working Atari 5200s and Sega Master Systems you can find Betamax players! lol
I found a brand new boxed sega master system for KD20. If you’re interested email me and I can tell you which shop still has 1 for sale.
I didn’t find any Mac supported converter so I ordered this :

The good thing is that I have my old cameras with me so I can convert the 80’s video through them I still didn’t have the time to do it yet please let us know if u can the process of converting such as programs used for the final input
Wow thats expensive. The one I got costs less than a third of the Canopus and works with NTSC and PAL. I still have my camcorders from the 90s so I’ve already converted those personal tapes but the gold is in the VHS and Betamax tapes.
Regarding the process of converting, what exactly do you mean? With the Elgato I installed the software that came with it and I just connect the video cam press play and then press record in the software and thats it.
Do you have to watch the whole video ? can you just fast forward ?
you could fast forward to the spot you want to start recording and then press play.

Do you need their software or can you use iMovie? I still use MiniDV camera and use iMovie to import them to my MBP. I am still holding off buying HDD/flashdrive based camera.

Greetings! I have a Panasonic Betamax Player, in a very good condition. I brought this from the Philippines just to watch certain family video recorded in a Betamax tape.
If you haven’t seen any Betamax player yet, I don’t mind trading it with a DVD player…
