Kuwait Suspended from the Olympics

feheid

For the second time in five years, Kuwait was suspended by the IOC for political interference on Tuesday, leaving the Gulf country’s athletes in limbo for next year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. [Source]

This sucks a lot more than being suspended by FIFA since unlike our football team, we actually can win at the Olympics.

it doesn’t suck, it’s not like they’d win Gold Medal, not to mention that bronze was in 2000 and another 2012 from same guy.

in kuwait, soccer is the only event that matter to youth, and most of them are not supporting that much for local sports teams, just Qadsiyah and AlArabi, and they are most interested in getting Gulf Cup, otherwise I have to underline this statement that it is unfortunate that a country most of population just interested in soccer, and ignoring the other sports, which is in my opinion sad.

did you know that Kuwait Handball team reached 12th in the world, and has been the champion three times in a row for Asia.

You don’t just go to the olympics to win a “gold medal”. Its much more than that, its being able to compete with other nations and show the world your flag, even if you don’t win the fact that your country participated is an honour on it’s own. Can you get Kuwait (or if your not kuwaiti then the respected country you are from) a gold medal?

there are people that likes it, and there is that doesn’t, and Olympics has no special or significant benefit, the way I see it, it’s big school sport event for adult, and those who waste their time in it, don’t actually get career that would benefit them, and as soon as you get a permanent injury you simply out of participating.

and that’s just my opinion

Your opinion is ridiculous.Any educated person in this planet knows that Olympics is not just a big school sporting event for adults. And you should know any sportsman will push his limits to achieve a medal in the Olympics, its never a waste of time for them.
I don’t think any Olympian will regret achieving an Olympics medal.

that is my friend is a metaphor, a statement to state the obvious, that it is just same as but in bigger version, however each person find what’s priority depend on their likes.

So my friend I believe in advancement and improvement, putting resources of time, education as well money into innovation for the advancement of technology.

Bronze is pretty good result for country with population less than 2 million. There is reason why countries with large population are winning most medals, there is much bigger chance to find good athletes in 200+ million people.

It’s really sucks when athletes working really hard everyday to get ready for Olympics and they can’t attend because of political reasons.

Actually Nicolas, it’s not just about large portion of population alone, it is more of the right equipment and training, not to mention the support, in Kuwait athletes don’t get paid, and if they do, it’s not actually worth it, so they need jobs, which if you think of it, and Arm’s Trap seemed logical win, since it doesn’t need time for perfecting the body everyday 6-8 hours practice, but time to practice on hand-eye coordination which you can do it with 2 to 4 hours daily.

Sorry to hear that. I don’t know insides of Kuwait sport federations, but beside that population matters anyway.

BTW is there any reason why government not sponsoring athletes? I mean Kuwait is reach country and government should support sport to motivate kids and healthy life in general.

I don’t know what planet you’re from but in our world, just being able to participate in the olympics is an achievement in itself. So yes it DOES suck, and frankly, so does your mentality.

if you have a problem, go take your opinion to Olympics, don’t lash on me, I didn’t stop it

if they didn’t listen, then it’s pretty much unimportant what you think. πŸ™‚

The athletes can still compete. Just that there won’t be national anthem and flag hoisting. A BIG let down for patriots.

Government interference in sporting bodies, same as FIFA. Basically the government is enforcing their own laws on the sporting agencies which is not allowed in these international committees.

Oddly enough I can’t actually find anything on WHICH law there’s an issue with
