Asus Eee

Asus Eee

When I posted about the Nokia N810 the other day Cajie made me aware of a better alternative, the Asus Eee PC. I hadn’t heard of it up till then and I don’t know how since its probably the perfect portable laptop. Its tiny with a screen measuring 7inches, it has a fully QWERTY keyboard, built in wifi, built in digital camera and it boots in under 10 seconds. The laptop comes pre-installed with a version of Linux that contains firefox, open office and a bunch of other softwares although you can install Windows XP if you really want although I see no reason to. The best part? It costs only $399! I placed an order for one on Amazon but it seems like there is a waiting list. Oh and for those of you interested, my Knight Rider is in Kuwait just stuck in customs. Anyway here is the link to the Asus Eee product page on Amazon.

I use the ASUS A626 PDA for web browsing, and while its not as sexy as the Apple products, it gets the job done. I use it mainly to browse the web on my wireless network while in the can.

Good luck

Nifty stuff, I’d love this as a christmas gift. Not as bulky as a laptop but has all the essentials 😀 And damn it’s tiny compared to that Starbucks mug 😛

I saw this before , its targeted towards senior new web surfers with little to non knowledge in pcs , kinda not your demographic don’t ya think 🙂 I’m guessing its not for you if so makes a great Christmas gift for older people
i loved how the riped off the mac book white look though.

The EeePC has gained a lot of buzz because it’s perfect as a second laptop when you want to hit the road with some basic applications but without all the bulk.
Plus the fact that it’s storage is solid state means you can literally fling the thing around without worrying about shock to the hard disk (which it doesn’t have).
It comes with only 4GB solid-state disk but you can easily expand that with SD/CF cards.

Sony TZ is out of the price range of most people.
$399, on the other hand makes the EeePc very very attractive.

There’s also a $299 version due out in december. It will have only 2GB of storage but for $300, is going to create even more buzz.
