Buy Travel Insurance Online

insurance

One thing I tend to do before I travel is get travel insurance. I think I’m already covered by my credit card company when I buy the airline ticket but just to be safe I always buy extra insurance since it’s not that expensive and I’d rather be safe than sorry. Previously I used to be able to buy insurance from within my NBK Online page but that no longer seems to be an option. So, the only other way I’ve been able to buy insurance online before I travel is with Gulf Insurance. They have an online page where you could buy travel insurance (along with other insurance) and the process takes just a few minutes and payment is done with knet or a credit card. So if you’re looking to conveniently buy travel insurance before you trip then check out their website [Here]

Update: A reader highlighted another insurance provider called Columbus Direct which you can order travel insurance from online and they seem to offer more bang for the buck. Check them out [Here]

Dear Mark,

Buying a second insurance is against the law, there shall never be two insurances covering you at any one instance while on actual travel, even for 1 day. The only other exception is to inform the insurance companies that provides you with both policies about it.

Reason is that once any issue arise while travelling and a claim is requested, both companies go through risk sharing process where claims are covered between both companies.

I repeat, it is against the law, and you can be find and/or jailed for a period of not more than 1 year if this fraud was not reported from you or any of your agents.

I doubt its considered fraud unless you try to defraud your insurance company. The fact I bought insurance because I was unsure if I already had insurance isn’t considered fraud.

I just checked and it’s perfectly legal to have multiple insurance. It only becomes illegal when you try to claim the medical expenses from multiple insurers. So as long as I submit my claim to one insurance company then its fine.

You can have as many insurance policies as you want. There is absolutely nothing illegal about that. I can’t believe that commenter works in the industry; but then again that would explain why insurance companies suck so badly.

I changed my insurance to Columbus Direct because their cover was better than Gulf Insurance. Man, am I glad I got full cover with them. Weather delays out of NYC caused a 24hr delay in Atlanta causing us to miss the Amsterdam flight from Atlanta. Company paid up in full for the hotel I had to get and the food we had to buy due to the 24 hr delay. Other guys were being given blankets by the airline staff and told to go to a quiet part of the airport and have a sleep on the seats. Airlines don’t pay up if weather is the problem.
My wife took an internal US flight while over there and that was delayed by 24hrs causing a missed connection. They paid up. We claimed for $1600 in total for the NYC delay and the internal flight delay. My wife claimed for emergency clothes as she couldn’t access her bags. All paid. Recommended company.

I tried to get travel insurance through Gulf Insurance for my first trip after moving to Kuwait and their form requires too much information like passport no and ID no for each traveller. Plus it requires you to input your MOI number, which as a GCC citizen living in Kuwait I don’t have. While looking online for an alternative back then I came across World Nomads (www.worldnomads.com) and I’ve been using them for our travel insurance ever since.

I’m going to have to compare their coverage with Columbus Direct to see if I should switch.

I buy my insurance through Columbus Direct as well. Can’t comment on whether they are good or bad as I haven’t, thankfully, needed to claim. However, the rates seem good, and more importantly to me, they offer the kind of medical coverage that is appropriate for travel to the US – up to $14m for medical expenses.

I have to congratulate Columbus Direct on their brilliant service.

This summer in the states I need to see a doctor. I called them and within an hour they had me seen, including all the paperwork to pay for the treatment.

For the last 4 years I have taken out an annual global travel policy with Columbus Direct – luckily I have never had a need to claim but feel assured that they are available if needed 24/7. Cover is for up to 30 calendar days each trip. It is good to hear that Blog readers have had good experiences with them. Note they are regulated by UK authorities.
