Doha Airport Business Class Immigration Counters

immig2

I was invited to Doha by Qatar Airways to check out their new Airbus A350 XWB plane which they’re going to be revealing to the press tomorrow (or technically today since it’s 1AM now). It’s my second time experiencing their new airport but the first time I actually leave it to enter the country.

I love their new airport but their First and Business Class immigration area has to be the most impressive aspect. It’s basically a lounge with immigration counters at the far end, I was completely shocked when I saw it. I mean their regular immigration area is one of the nicest I’ve seen but this is just insane.

I’d rather have an electronic chip immigration (similar to those in Thailand and Hong Kong) than a luxurious immigration hall for premium travelers only.

Implementing such electronic system would save time clearing through immigration.

U can actually pay a fee and use their service without being a premium traveler. Despite that, it is an innovative service for a lounge, u got to give them that.

I never used such service in Dubai but I believe the concept is the same. Isn’t this more efficient immigration process rather than unnecessary luxury?

Looks cool, very premium and all that but I personally wouldn’t really care for sitting down in a lounge for immigration and stuff. Not sure exactly how this immigration lounge works, whether you actually have immigration officers attend to you and how long it takes to clear it, but when I lived in Singapore I found it super convenient to just go through the automated immigration counters. There was never a wait and I would finish up that procedure in, I kid you not, under 20 seconds. Just scan your passport and your fingerprint. I think you’d have to have some sort of residency there to avail that but I still loved it as the first thing I’m thinking about when I’m off the plane is “I want to be out of this airport ASAP” and anything that speeds up that process is a good thing in my books.

Just my 2 cents.

Schiphol has Privium. Need to be a paid member though. Basically scan your micro chipped passport and scan your iris and you’re through.

Looks like a great luxurious lounge. I’ve been in the new business lounge and I wasn’t too impressed with it. It felt too open, museum like and the services felt too far apart.
The huge lake of water in the centre, although pleasant on the eyes, took up too much space without much function.
The design is modern, sleek and clean but lets face it, the we’ve all seen some of the bum looking people who have access to business lounges. Bum people bring bum behaviour.
