Moral of the story: Don’t mess with the UAE. If Emirates wants landing rights, then cordially come to an agreement.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the UAE lost at the end. They tried to act tough, but they capitulated at the end without getting 1% of what they wanted.

“First, sign a nuclear cooperation agreement. Second, launch a Canada-UAE business council. And third, facilitate travel requirements to increase business, tourism and joint prosperity for our citizens, by restoring the visa regime,” How did the UAE not gain in this agreement? As far as landing rights go, we’ll see soon that the skies will open for one of the best airlines in the world – Emirates. As far as the Canadian base goes, that had to move to Kuwait, well, I guess they are stuck in this country for awhile.

Finally – it’s about time Eh! All kidding aside, this was a huge issue for us Canadians traveling to UAE. Let’s hope that this Canadian government wakes up and learns to work effectively with the rest of the world!

it’s funny that The U.S Canadians and and so of many Euro/English Countries

to be able to vist many arab countries with no visa

and the Arabs must get a visa and it will be hard for them to get 😛

How many Canadians do you know that will overstay their visa to stay in the Arab world? How many Arabs will overstay their visa to stay in Canada? That should answer your question. Also that’s why Kuwaiti’s get visa’s easier than say Lebanese.

Correction, Canadians still need a visa to enter the UAE. The restoration was for the old visa regime, which is to obtain a free visa upon arrival, instead of having to apply and pay for a visa in advance.

Mark, you’re a Canadian citizen? Cool!
But obviously the Kuwaiti residencey has to be valid for at least 3 months, correct?

I don’t understand how laws and regulations are issued here. This new rule does not benefit the people of Kuwait. Their should be full visa reciprocity between Kuwait and Canada. In reality, Kuwaitis have to apply for a visa in advance undergoing strict and tough processing measures while Canadians enter Kuwait freely.

So are you saying the same reciprocity should exist between India and Kuwait? Or because Kuwaitis dont allow foreign borns to become citizens, the US shouldnt allow Kuwaitis born in the US to become US citizens?

They should abolish Schengen visa requirement for Kuwaiti citizens. They are big spenders and there is zero chance that they will over stay and become illegal labor like people from Morocco or Egypt. It’s common sense.

Understandable reaction, but incomplete. Presuming that all citizens from Kuwait come to Europe on vacation, it still won’t be a noticeable turnover-improvement for the tourism industry.

More worrying is the lack of legal actions in regards to International measures to stop financing terrorist organizations and money-laundry.

Until these official commitments are taken by Kuwait (in 2012), a visa for ‘Schengen-countries’ will remain. With a few exceptions, as the Canadian citizens in Kuwait for example.

thats such bullshit. i hope they never do that for Kuwaiti citizens – it will devalue it so much!

Took me a couple of mins to realize you’re talking about visa on arrival IN THE UAE. Let me reword that for you:

How easy is it to get a Canadian passport? I only ask because we have a lot of Indian guys at work who can barely speak English nor use a computer, yet they all have Canadian passports.

Canada had a huge push to allow immigration a while back, it was really easy to become a citizen for a while. If I remember correctly they’ve been tightening it up again.

Way easier than a US PP though.

Now when will the Arab world have a dignified system to allow Palestinians to travel to and from these countries?
