Grand Hyatt Cairo

My View

I am having a hard time believing the hotel I am staying in is the second best hotel in Cairo and that its a 5 star. When you first come in the lobby is pretty big and has a luxurious look but as soon as you step into the rooms its as if you’re stepping into another hotel. The rooms are pretty outdated, old, boring, and not very clean. I would give it a 3 star or 4 star tops. I guess the coolest thing about the hotel is the fact that it was in the news a few months back because of the no alcohol policy they activated.

Anyway supposedly Adel Imam comes to the hotel often so I am hoping to catch a glimpse of him before I leave. If you’re coming to Egypt what I am hearing is Four Seasons and Sofitel are the best hotels to stay in. If you are going to stay at the Grand Hyatt then ask for rooms that end with 44 or 45. Best view and the rooms feel cozier.

Speaking of Four Seasons, I had their burger here at the Giza hotel. It wasn’t as good as the amazing one I had in Four Seasons Jordan but still pretty good.

I am now trying to organize a list of things to do here based on everyone’s comments. I am having a hard time organizing the list since there are tons of places that were mentioned. So far I’ve just been to Khan Khalil, the two Four Season hotels and McDonalds which by the way isn’t that good like some people mentioned. The Quarter Pounder here looks like a mutated home made burger and wasn’t that great.

Update: One thing I forgot to mention is the pollution here. Its really really bad. There is like smoke in the air the whole time, like a fog!

Update2: In case my post gave the impression I am not enjoying Egypt that’s not true. I am actually liking it here because of the wackiness and the fact that EVERYONE has a sense of humor!

Yeah the pollution is really bad and getting worse.

For decent hotel-quality fast food, go try the ta3miyah (falafel) or Shawarma at the Sheraton

And yes the Grand Hyatt is pretty dismal. Sofitel Gezirah and both Four Seasons are the best

hey mark,
i know egypt is pollued and sirty and shit
but there’s plennnty of things to do, and mcdonald’s isn’t one of them,
dude u can have mcdonald’s anywhere else in the world
kudos to sandman, LUCILLE’S is a must

CRAVE in maadi and zamalek
ZAYTOONI in four seasons, the one right next to grand hyatt (bit pricy)
SEQUOIA in zamalek
ABOUL SID, egyptian food at it’s best, also in zamalek and maadi
MAISON THOMAS zamalek
LA ROSA maadi

STOMP will be presenting at the opera on the 20th thru 23rd november (www.stompincairo.com)
there’s a BUDDHA BAR in sofitel el gezira, since u can’t go to sharm…

shopping-wise: citystars and first mall, but they have nothing u cant find in kuwait, i would know, born in kuwait, live in egypt, visit kuwait every year
citystars have a whole wing designed just like khan el khalili

you could take a nile cruise on the MAXIME

oh yeah, ZAFIR is an arabic t-shirt shop, loads of funny stuff, in zamalek, all types of local egyptian and arabic stuff written all over them, also in zamalek

so basically zamalek is the place to be, it’s a bit crammy but if u go digging thru it u’ll find tons of stuff to do, then u can go to maadi

the cairo film festival opens on the 18th, (www.cairofilmfest.com), though i think all the movies they have this year are crappy

ok ive written too much, if u like these suggestions just ask for more šŸ™‚
egypt rules man, u just have to get past all the dirtiness

That’s the point of going to Cairo, it is an unforgettable adventure. You love it in spite of the madness of everything because it is so much fun. Alexandria and the region to the North are much different. Very elegant, classic and beautiful. The people are very simple and decent. Have fun.

Not 5 stars, not at all. It went down to 3 stars because it has no alcohol, then they got a 4th star when they opened a bar on the roof or something (not in the rooms).

stick to the four seasons nile plaza for an elegant stay. if you want to go the opposite then any shack on the street should work for a taste of the real cairo.

humor lies nasb common factor šŸ˜‰ , grand hyatt was 2nd best but not anymore , the best now 4 seasons and citystar intercontinental as mentioned before.
mcdonalds estaghfar allah ma yinwikil .. !

I’m writing this comment from Saudi where my hotel smells like an ashtray and service is pathetic.

im not saying that there is no pollution in egypt but you actually came on a time of the year where the pollution is higher than average in cairo because of a very famous problem here in cairo called the “black cloud”

so you’ve been to Cairo, and stayed at Grand Hyatt Cairo….which btw, is few blocks away from our apartment in Cairo…if I knew I would’ve given you the tour of your life in Cairo…anyway…there is no such thing called the best burger place in Egypt they all crap except for some of the Mc’s, Burger King’s and Chili’s which still taste different than the ones in Kuwait…still there are a lot of nice places to eat in while in Cairo such as Al Burj, and Qadoura both places are specialized in seafood…
well…next time let me know I may recommend some nice places to try while in Cairo
