Jazeera Airways Future Plans

checkin

The Jazeera Airways 2015 Report is out and amongst all the financial data they have a section dedicated to future plans. Here are the ones that caught my attention:

Remote Check-in
Jazeera are building a check-in facility two minutes away from the main airport terminal (pictured on top). You arrive at the facility where parking valets will meet you, unload your baggage and then park your car for you. You then check in your baggage at this facility and get your boarding pass before being shuttled to the main terminal where you can head straight to immigration. The idea here is that you’ll bypass the airports congestion by skipping the whole parking and check-in process at the main terminal. They’ve already started construction on this facility and it should be operational by the end of this year.

In-flight Broadband
Jazeera Airways will be the first airline to be connected with Rockwell Collins PAVES™ Cabin Wireless and next-generation Global Xpress connectivity. It’s a new technology I previously hadn’t heard about that will give passengers fast, reliable and consistent coverage while also having access to the same high quality broadband that was previously only been available on the ground. According to a press release by Rockwell Collins, this service will be active by end of the year but in the Jazeera Airways report it says winter 2017 so it could be a typo.

Jazeera Airways Introducing Long-Haul Flights
Starting 2018 Jazeera will be flying long-haul flights. They don’t mention which countries specifically but they have a little map with a bunch of countries on it including popular destinations like London and Paris.

One thing the report fails to mention is the dedicated Jazeera Airways terminal which I’ve been hearing about for ages. My guess is the rumored terminal is actually just the new remote check-in area and not a separate terminal similar to FlyDubai. Check out the full report [Here]

Update: Just got a couple of clarifications. A dedicated Jazeera Airways terminal is still planned, it was just left out of the report. Also in regards to broadband on flights, by Winter 2017 they mean January 2017.

They’re obviously not flying their current A320s to London, they wouldn’t be able to make it without stopping half way. If they could fly them to London they would have already.

I once flew from Doha to Geneva on an A320 and it was one of the worst flights in my life. The cabin was too narrow for such a long flight with a full load of passengers and it had something like 2 toilets for economy. Plus they only served us one meal just prior to landing. I was starving and ate nothing but peanuts all flight long. It was horrible. I stopped flying Qatar Airways after that. Any flight over 3 hours should use a wide body aircraft, otherwise forget it.

Agreed, the combination of single aisle (no one can move if food trays are out) and the two bathroom for the whole economy class make it a horrible idea for long flights.

Actually, they can fly the A320-200 on that route. It has a range of 6,500 KM – plenty to get from Kuwait to London / Spain etc. Qatar Airways flies the same aircraft from Doha to Hungary.

If you are curious, you can check out the performance map for the A320-200 here: https://www.airbus.com/aircraftfamilies/passengeraircraft/a320family/a320/performance/

I was under the impression that they were holding off international operations as they were waiting to bid on Kuwait Airways sale.

I guess that’s not going to happen anymore.

Up to 6,500 KM, depending on configuration. Most likely theirs is short range since their business is based on short flights. Why would they buy one with bigger tanks and lose fuel efficiency on the extra weight.

So my best guess its gonna be transit flight.

I don’t understand why no mentions how awful the business class is! i couldn’t believe it when i saw it…it would be really easy to change the two seats with one true business class seat.

kuwait airways wanted their own terminal and got rejected over and over.

i guess they have to be owned by an extremely rich politician to get one …

Yes its true A320’s can easily make it as far as London!
But the problems would be:-
– narrow aircrafts, which is really uncomfortable for long distance flights.
– no entertainment system, so 6:30 from kuwait to london would make people go crazy.
– seats are horrendous.
– business class is just bulshit.
– food is horrible.
-service will always be bad, as its a low budget airlines.
Basically its perfect for people who wants to pay for a ticket that would be only 25 kd less than other airlines.
For me ill never!

I wish they open direct flights to places different from Kuwait Airways, like Barcelona, Munich, Berlin, Milan and some Scandinavian capital. Really, this Kuwaiti trio: Landan Baris Jenef is getting old.
