Long term parking at the airport

longtermparking

I’m heading to Beirut for the weekend for my younger brothers wedding and I feel pretty lucky since I managed to park in the long term parking lot.

The lot was actually full but like I usually do I just waited outside the parking entrance and hoped that someone would leave so I could take their spot. I wasn’t expecting to find parking today and was planning to park in the short term parking as plan B but, the parking attendant came and told me he had a spot in the back but I would have to park on the curb. I didn’t have an issue with that and so he removed the temporary barriers blocking the parking entrance and once I was in led the way to the back. I was planning to just climb the curb and park but it seems they wanted to utilize that space properly so he made me park to one side so there would still be a spot on the curb for someone else. The more cars he can help park, the more tips he will make.

According to the parking attendant the long term parking has been full for the past three days so if you’re planning to park your car at the airport expect to find the long term parking full. Your alternatives are the short term parking lot (I think it’s KD4 a day) or the cargo terminal parking lot which is free but a pretty long walk.

Short term parking per day rate is around KD8 per day. sorrowfully I had to do this twice this year. Not sure though about what happens the day next.

Be careful about parking in the cargo area, the free parking seems to be a grey area. A year back, my car got towed after a few days. It took ages to locate it, but I managed to find it with the traffic department in Farwaniya, behind the Crown Plaza hotel.

It will never occur the airport authorities to add more parking lots , will it ? A parking lot with a pedestrian overbridge connecting to the terminals would be part of a solution.

They need to add more parking? Maybe for the last 10 years? They could just build the longterm parking to a multi-story parking structure? AHHHHH….to solve the many problems of Kuwait is SOOOOOOOO……simple! Best wishes to your family on the wedding of your brother.

You do realize that there is a valet parking service which is far more convenient than both options and cheaper. But I think their parking is not shaded.

Its there and I always use it. So does everyone I know.

For drop off, they’re located in front of Kuwait Airways first class (thats the far end of the departures drop off area). Usually there is a guy in suit and airport tag standing there, he gets ur keys and inspect the car exterior for scratches and hands you slip.

For pick up, the middle exit from the airport (the one which has florist). Once you exit, there is a small desk on your left. If you use their service too frequently and get to know the guys and manage to get the phone number of the pick up desk, you can call them and they’ll bring the car for you once your plane touch down. That way you don’t wait ten minutes for them to bring your car for you!

You are lucky, especially with the upcoming holiday. On the other hand short term parking charges KD 10/ per day, which id probably the highest in kuwait

Yes Mark is lucky, there is an well known IT Company in Dajeej that keeps their employees’ passport and refuses to hand them over without collecting their civil ids.

And especially during public holidays refuse to give employees their passports unless they officially fill up a leave form. So yes Mark is lucky to be able to go on a holiday.

I worked in couple companies like that. They did it because of the experience they had with the kind of people they were employing. Many would not honor the contract (if written contract even existed). Many would just leave on holiday and never come back without handing back records of all the money in the market to be collected. Some would come back from their holidays to go and collect the money and then fly back home taking the money with them… and some people once they get permit to stay (eqma) they would run off… they were not serious about working but just wanted to get way to stay in Kuwait.

1) [They did it because of the experience they had with the kind of people they were employing.]
– White collared “Expats” rarely cause issues to their Employers here in Kuwait.

2) [Many would not honor the contract (if written contract even existed).]
– Again, Expats (HAVE TO HONOR Contracts) and yes well established companies (do have and do enforce) their Contracts here.

3) [and some people once they get permit to stay (eqma) they would run off… they were not serious about working but just wanted to get way to stay in Kuwait.]
– This part does not make sense, where & why would they run? They cannot renew or transfer their eqama without the previous sponsors’ approval.

Wow!! I know Kharafi National keeps passports (which is ridiculous) but I don’t think they forcefully keep them when requested back from the employee (holiday or not). What ‘well known’ IT company is this?

I absolutely agree – we need to take a cab during such peak days – even if we don’t like it. It saves you the stress plus its important – when in Rome do like the Romans do! The issue is that we lack a sense of civic responsibility – no car pooling, no real transport mechanisms (City Bus and KPTC are no longer up to the mark for citizens to even think of using them)
