Oyster Hotel Reviews

Before I book a hotel at a travel destination I usually use TripAdvisor to find out what hotels are popular in that city and I read up on peoples reviews. It’s helped me make a lot of right decisions and I think I can make even better decisions with the help of another website I just found about called Oyster. One of the great things about Oyster is their photos which they take of the hotel, the room and the hotels surroundings. For example I was checking out pictures for the hotel I am going to be staying at in New York (Nu Hotel) next month and Oyster has around 500 photos of the hotel divided up into sections. The picture above for example is just one of the many pictures of the room I will be staying in. They have pictures of everything in that room from the cable box to the toilet paper roll. It’s a very cool site and can prove very helpful the next time you want to travel. [Link]

But this site does not cover the whole world like trip advisor does. I could only find USA, Aruba and Jamaica.

Not particularly helpful if you are looking for a hotel in Europe…..or Asia….or anywhere that isn’t USA or some parts of the Caribbean….

As a few have mentioned it’s limited. Quite limited. Certainly much of the known world is missing. It doesn’t even have hotel info for major US cities such as Chicago. The information message that’s returned is particularly unhelpful: “Please enter a hotel, destination, or attraction name.” Ain’t Chicago a destination name? How about Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Istanbul, and Bangkok? I’ve heard those be destinations too. Perhaps a message that states that no hotel info is currently available would be a bit more helpful?

Also, too much is made about certain facets of a hotel. Toilet paper roll? Cable box? How ’bout the pillow mint? C’mon. If I’m spending too much time in a hotel then I’m not spending enough time out and about, seeing the sights, eating the local cuisine, and interacting with the people in the meatspace. But if you like hotels, and that the website knows about ’em, perhaps it has its niche.

Hi seouldout – the error message you reference is definitely a bug, and we’re working to fix it asap.

We’re still very young and have lots of ground to cover, but are dedicated to being experts in the destinations that we do cover. Chicago is being reviewed shortly – looking forward!

Thanks for all the great feedback!
