Rimowa – Kuwait vs Dubai Prices

Kuwait’s first official Rimowa store opened a couple of weeks ago at the Avenues and I was curious to check out their prices. I bought a Rimowa bag from the Dubai store a couple of months back and so was curious to know the price difference between the two stores. Surprisingly, Kuwait is cheaper!

The Kuwait store is 5% cheaper than the Dubai store and the reason for that is the new 5% taxes you pay on items in Dubai. So a Rimowa Original Cabin size bag in silver aluminum costs KD325 in Dubai after-tax, but KD310 in Kuwait. Not that much of a difference but still a saving. So if you were trying to figure out if you should buy a Rimowa bag locally or abroad, you now know.

I have not been to Dubai for 18 years and hope to never return. But from what I understand they refund VAT at the airport on your way out.

yes they do but like most VAT refunds at airports, its a procedure and takes time especially if its busy. So unless you have a bunch of VAT refunds, it might not be worth the hassle and so its easier to just buy it for 5% less.

Absolutely hated everything about it. If I want to go somewhere regionally I would much prefer Oman or Sharm El Sheikh. If I want to go somewhere civilized I prefer Netherlands or France. Dubai is just a useless expensive ‘in between’ fake bubble.

out of curiosity, why would buy expensive cabin size bag ? you will have it with you all the time and will not suffer the cargo abuse unlike the check-in bags where you better invest in good one and don’t mind to be expensive.

You could look at it the other way to. Why pay for an expensive bag if it’s gonna get abused and scratched up in cargo? Doesn’t it make sense to buy a cool looking bag which will be with you most of the time and the one you’ll be interacting with the most?

Yup you got a point, I just prefer rimowa to be my checked-in bag since the built quality would theoretically save my stuffs from scattering all over the place LOL

many owners of rimowa luggage -especially the aluminum ones- consider the scratches and scuffs as a point of personal pride!

A lot of prices in Kuwait are just rounded off, usually upwards.

211 KD > 220 KD which is a $30 increase.

There is no legit reason for prices to be higher in Kuwait than Dubai 99% of the time

I noticed that the weight of the cabin suitcase is around 5KG. Isn’t that really heavy? It leaves you with only 2 kg of luggage or am I missing something?

if you are buying a +300 KD cabin bag you definitely not going to travel economy, with first class & business the weight allowance is more

Well i fly economy and my bag with enough clothes for 3-4 days weighed 7kg this past weekend. But i’ve flown before with heavier weight (mostly filled with books) and nobody really checked or asked.

In general, some airlines weigh your carryons like Qatar, but others don’t. The American legacy carriers don’t weight your carryons but will gate check them if the plane runs out of overhead bin space. I guess you’ll be fine if you plan your trips accordingly.
