Thinking of going to Cuba?

cuba

A couple of weeks ago, me and a friend where looking for places to travel this coming October and Cuba was on the top of our list. We didn’t manage to do much research other than finding out which airline would take us there but, the local travel blog Hello 965 just posted some information on Cuba including how to get there and what to do once you’re there. So if you’re ever considering flying to Cuba, this post should interest you. Check out her post over [Here]

Cuba is a popular destination for Canadians. I’ve never been there but I heard it’s like going back in time. Internet there is extremely lousy by the way or there is no internet at all… that’s what I heard!

It would probably be more popular with Americans if they were allowed to go there 😛 (there’s a sanction preventing Americans from legally going)

I’ve traveled a couple of times from Canada. They have great all inclusive packages. I would highly recommend 2 options:

Option 1 – Partial stay in Havana and partial stay in Varadero

Option 2 – Cayo Coco

I really enjoyed Cayo Coco the most. Great beaches!

Is it safe? – probably safer than driving down highway 5!!
Like it says above a lot of Canadians, plus a LOT of UK holiday makers in Varadero.

I enjoyed myself with the family in 2006 – would I go back? possibly.
After a while the all inclusive packages become the same
I can recommend RIU hotels for their all inc packages.
Bacardi on optic in the bedroom…………..

It’s worth getting a deal that includes a car rental and (pre-booked) accommodation in various cities and villages. As an alternative you may consider ‘Casa Particular’ as an accommodation option. It’s an excellent way to explore (part) of the island and enjoy the local culture. Driving is very safe and easy in Cuba.

In addition, you could end your stay with a 3-4 day all-inclusive in Varadero.

We did the West part of the island in 2000 this way and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not sure what it is like now, though. Make sure to visit the sugar cane plantations and the cigar factories!

Hey my father is the Ambassador of Kuwait in Cuba, if you ever want more information, we could help. I went there in 2011 after his first year there, I loved it. It’s safer than what people think and most Kuwaitis or Arabs confuse it with Colombia. Anyway if you want to know more, I can get you to talk to my father either in person or through email.

Watching Jon Favreau’s Chef, I suddenly want to vacation in Cuba. Have heard alot of great things about Cuban health care delivery system. Like we have the German clinic in Kuwait the hope is someday there will be a Cuban health clinic in Kuwait manned by Cuban medics.

Hello everyone,

For those who have AMERICAN student visas and are planning to travel to Cuba, I have heard “rumors” about students’ visas being revoked after entering Cuba. I am not sure about the accuracy of the information above. However, I would definitely ask around if I were one of you guys studying in the US.

Happy travels,
