The Joystixx Barcade located in the basement of Symphony Mall in Salmiya is now finally open. They have a bunch of old school arcade machines as well as a pinball machine and a section with video game consoles.
They have arcade games like Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker, Mortal Kombat 4 (so disappointed they didn’t get MK1 or MK2), Metal Slug, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, The King of Fighters ’97 and more. The arcade machines take regular 100fils coins while the consoles you rent out for 1.5KD an hour.
If you want to check the place out they’re open daily except for Sundays from 1PM to 11PM. They’re also on instagram @joystixxbar
Thanks Wahab!

I am proud to be their very first customer 😉
Smashed the fuck out of TMNT and SF 3rd Strike!
I also want to sincerely thank them for drawing Orko from He-Man on their wall!
Epic stuff.
Work of @monstarium
That explains it!
He’s an 80’s kid.
No Metal Slug ? Kill me now
I mean I clearly list metal slug in my post 🧐
MK3 not MK4, a couple of arcades are 200 fils not all are 100 fils. also most of them are based on the raspberry pi so they don’t play like the originals (most LCD’s not old-school CRT monitors) but still fun.
I could swear I saw MK4 not 3 cuz I remember thinking it was such a strange choice. Will double check
I’m glad they’ve got Kinf of Fighters, it’s such an underrated series. I miss those Iori Yagami vs. Kyo Kasanagi battles with friends during middle school.
Stylistically speaking, KoF is better than Street Fighters, but that’s just my humble opinion.
Did you know Kuwait used to have the best KOF fighters in the world outside of Japan? There’s a local arcade called White Tower that was well known online for having such strong players that used to fly out to competitions and such.
I think a lot of that has died down especially with the general death of arcades. One of the best Street Fighter 4 players in the world tournament with like 1000+ players was from the GCC but I forgot where
one place is still open there, still smells of cigarettes!
I’m not very familiar but shouldn’t the consoles by like $$/game
1.5 hr is too long
the arcades are original cabinets or just fitted with new hardware and emulators?
Looks like modern hardware running emulators. Which is fine, easier to maintain
Mostly new which is okay but isn’t the real deal. as we are not used to playing mid 90’s games on widescreen screens. so yup mostly emulators.
i wish they bring up a (Killer Instinct) machine. it was my childhood game.. does any one remember it
yup of course, so i’ve got a nice arcade background because I used to live in Canada in the early 90s and was there during the prime arcade days. the first day i moved to canada my cousin took me to an arcade and showed me this new game that had just come out, Mortal Kombat 1. Soon after we were playing NBA Jam in arcades as well. Killer Instinct was one of those games I remember which when it came out we were all shocked at how good the graphics were. I used to be a terrible player, at least against those guys who end up pulling of 80+ hit ultra combos, it was insane.
The original Sega Daytona and Sega Rally were my go-to competitive games which I used to kick ass in.
Man… I don’t want to come off as a douche but please tell me this is ALL what they have to offer. These prices will hardly keep them afloat in Rihab let alone Symphony. I love that this place opened but they need to generate a profit to stay afloat! Do they sell games? Do they organize tournaments? Do they host events? Someone pass this along to the owners?
they must have some kind of bar since they’re an arcade bar.. that’s one mystery I get to uncover soon!
They serve drinks, coffee, snacks and even burgers. they have a decent menu and prices are reasonable. Also they rent out PS4/Xbox’s connected to big LED’s for 1.5KWD an hour. for two players.
They should see if they can be a venue to host tournaments. Smash tournament they had a couple of months back was like 100+ people and they were struggling to fit everyone in on the setup
