The Star Wars Battlefront Beta just got released a few hours ago and both me and my brother started downloading it on our PS4’s at the same time. I have a 10Mbps WiMD connection in Salmiya while he has a Zain 4G LTE internet connection in Salwa. We started downloading around 9:30PM. By 11:30PM I had more than 5 hours left to complete the download while my brother with his Zain connection had 51 minutes left.
This isn’t a very scientific test obviously but it’s an interesting comparison nevertheless. With Zain’s new 1TB for KD20 a month deal, it might not be a bad choice at all.

My Viva unlimited is slow and not unlimited.
If I want to leave Viva before the 2 year contract. Do I have to pay the free iPad I got?
Nothing beats DSL. I have a 20 Mbps DSL connection for STC and it downloads 7 GB in almost 3 hours.
You are lucky! Usually DSL is worse than LTE in Kuwait, mostly because old phone lines doesn’t support high speed internet 🙁
Are you sure you aren’t using GPON instead of DSL?
Lots of areas have the old crappy lines, if you can have 20 Mbps DSL then yeah it’s definitely the best option.
WIMD 6MB and Zain user –
Zain usually downloads faster (6MB remember, to raise it they have to come to my house and install a new device and I don’t really want to) but it’s unstable as hell. Terrible for streaming video or playing games because it has little blips where the service just stops.
Another thing with the 4G is it’s a shared netowrk depending on your area so yeah if you live somewhere with a lot of 4G use it’s gonna be slow.
But yeah for the average person Zain for 20KD is probably the easiest way to not have terrible internet
My 12Mbps dsl connection downloads at least 8gb in 2 hours…
20Mbps is close to 2MB per second, doing the math, you should be getting 7 GB in under 90 minutes…
Sounds too much like an advertisement lol
No it’s not. From torrents my download speed with Zain LTE is from 2.5 to 4 megabyte per second. Not megaBIT, megaBYTE. Mark has 10 megabit per second connection and he’s maximum speed is limited to 1.25 megabyte per second in best case scenario.
i always find megabit and megabyte confusing. I usually prefer saying I have a 10Mb connection and i download at speeds of around 1,250kb/s
back when i had a 2.4Kbit modem we didn’t have megabits lol
MegaBits – For Internet connection
MegaBytes – for Data on your computer like files
Nope. 1 megabyte = 8 megabits.
I have tried all 4G ISPs and Wimd. Wimd is clearly the worst of them all incl. their customer service. Currently on Ooredoo 4G………….
psn id ? metal gear online ?
All i read was Star Wars battlefront… after that nothing was clear.
1TB is the download capacity, so, what is the download speed?
Also, is there a 2 year contract involved?
There is never a 2 year contract involved. Just buy the 4G router yourself.
Or just sign the contract and get the device for free, and when you want to break the contract pay the remaining balance of the device.
When I signed up for my Zain account, I had a choice to sign a 2 year contract. If you sign a 2 year contract they give you a choice between a free PS4, iPad or an iPhone.
Everyone wanting to jump ship just do your research first. Its not a guaranteed speed I have both zain and wimd and zain will be all over the place one day I could get 2.0MB/s from it while on others it wouldn’t break 600KB/s. Its all dependent on where you live and the sort of load thats on the area.
How’s both in regard to gaming ?!
I use it to game and I don’t have any major issues (in Salwa). Sometimes there is lag, but very infrequently.
How is it in Jabriya?
Awful, Jabriya has one of the worst internet speed, since Jabriya doesn’t have a tower we borrow the one in Salwa, I tried DSL, Viva and currently Zain but same bad results.
Same for WiMD? Thanks for info
The Battlefront beta is out on Origin as well for PC. If you have a good rig you can enjoy better visuals. Right now I’m playing on an older gaming laptop so I’m just getting 30 FPS. Planning to build a new rig soon.
Does anyone know where I can get AMD graphics cards? No one seems to have it online. I’m looking for the new Fury X.
No idea, but you’d be better off with an Nvidia 980 ti.
The 980 Ti is in no way superior than a Fury X. They are almost equals and in some tests it has shown the Fury X outperforms the 980 Ti by a slight margin. Especially in 4K gaming the Fury X seems to be slightly better.
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/06/amd-fury-x-reviews-show-strong-4k-performance-but-doesnt-beat-980-ti-overall/
Overall its a mixed bag. But if I get my hands on a Fury X in kuwait i wont think twice about grabbing it.
They are indeed very close. 4K gaming is not really a thing, especially for new games.
I say Nvidia mainly because of driver support and issues, where they seem to have a bit of a monopoly going on.
Try this place
Loulouat Ibn Khaldoun Complex

Haha. That’s the first place I went and searched. No luck unfortunately. I mean they do have a few AMD cards but those are older gen models. None of the latest models.
mark i just changed my iphone and i cant seem to find the app in appp store to download it on my new iphone.. why is that?
Hey Reem, it’s no longer available in the app store, currently working on an update
It really depends on the area. Zain 4G LTE is my block in my area, is very bad. Download speeds are always less than 5 mbps, so I just keep at 3G, which is actually faster than the LTE where I am -.-
Yeah definitely test out Zain before you go for a contract. I have the same issue in my area, Zain and WIMD side by side WIMD will outperform.
Just for the record : wimd uses Qnet, and there have been some major issues the last week or so with some sort of cable that is being fixed so wimd speeds fluctuate like crazy from 0.5mb to 12 mb so it might be worth doing another test once the cable is fixed
Where can I find out information about this? It seems like their connection is always fluctuating and this isn’t something new or recent.
I called them a week ago when I found my speed dropping to a level where I could not get emails. Turning the router off and on again seemed to reset it back to 20MB. They told me they had a serious problem in the Salwa area but were working to fix it. Seems OK now.
The Zain connection is really fast (living in Salwa) and sometimes the speed reaches 4-5 mb/s but normally its 2-3 mb/s. Hopefully it continues to be that fast.
How’s your download speed now? I have the same Internet package 1TB 20KD.. since more than a year and the speed indeed was good. But now I just get 720 KB/s
2000 seeders all with 100% of the file, yet it never crosses 1 MB since October. Same for all good old HTTP connections and downloads as well. I haven’t relocated and yes I have tried different solo devices.
Are you experiencing the same? (That is if you’re still are using it)
Thanks.
Hi Mark,
I just paid for 8 Mbps, i’m living in farwaniya, but why they need 10 working days to fix my internet, do you have any idea bro?
nope
