WiMD has setup free wifi at The Village in Abu Al-Hassany. They’re planning to roll out a country wide wifi network in the near future and for the next few months they’re testing the service out at The Village. No idea what the download speed is or if any ports are closed but my guess is their network won’t have a problem handling any bandwidth abuse.

I contacted Wimd over a month ago and was told I would have the service up and running in 2 days time. After two weeks I contact them again as it had been silent from their side, only to be told that it would now take them 1 month to get their service to my house!!!!!! Their customer service is way behind and this is a catastrophy waiting to happen for a company that claim to be a quality internet service provider. Upon contacting Wimd again today, I was told I would be receiving a call for installation within 2 days. Let’s see……….

I don’t work for WiMD, but I can offer up a theory as to what happened:
1. They didn’t anticipate so many installations during InfoConnect.
2. They only had enough equipment to cover their initial estimates.
3. They didn’t have enough installation teams for their anticipated bookings.
4. The customs strike held up shipments of their radio equipment
So I am sure they are trying to catch up with everyone. If you need service, better sign up now cause their waiting list is only going to get longer.
