Secrets of a Kuwaiti football tycoon

BBC have a short film on Fawaz Al Hasawi, kinda like a behind the scenes look on who he is and why he chose to purchase the football club Nottingham Forest. Although Fawaz says the club isn’t a plaything and is a serious business, I think the way the film was edited by the BBC and the way they kept focusing on his riches made it look like it’s just another toy like his cars and houses. You can watch the video on the BBC website [Here]

Actually, they did that so as to show that he has the money to be able to transform the club into a premier league team.

The way I was looking at it was BBC went with the question “So does the tycoon see the club as a plaything or a serious business investment? ”

Yet I didn’t think there was anything in the video that was serious business. You never find out what Fawaz does for a living, how he was able to accumulate so much wealth because of business decisions or anything of the sort. Someone in England looking at this video might get the impression Fawaz is a rich “Kuwaiti prince” that doesn’t work, collects cars and spends all day chilling with family and friends.

Sure he loves the team but you want to be able to feel confident that the owner will be making proper business decisions which you don’t get from this BBC video.

I agree with n19, they just wanted to protray him as being able to support the team, maybe they are sceptacle that he wants to put his heart and soul in the game? Nice to see a Kuwaiti protrayed in a positive light as other GCC nationals, however, the UAE are the ones in serious talks with the British government to wave the visas for their nationals, not the Kuwaitis. The British stated that the UAE’s presentation was excellent and that they are considering it, so other GCC nationals still have a stronger foothold in Britain than Kuwaitis.

Once upon a time in a galaxy far far away …
Kuwaitis went to the UK without paying for a visa …
But Brits coming to Kuwait had to pay …

Lets look at that logic …. More Kuwaitis went to the UK than Brits visiting Kuwait … Another Low IQ situation …

Performance wise, NF was 19th last season and 8th this season, and could yet make it to the premier league. Financialy though I do not know.

It is indeed just a plaything. We play virtual games online and he plays it in real life. He only went there when he got fed up with people bothering him at the club in Kuwait. I have yet to meet a single Kuwaiti that would call his purchase as a true business.
